Hardly inspiring but you spend your money upgrading your weaknesses, not your strengths. Yedlin is clear 1st choice so 4mil back up is fine. Rather this than 12mil spaffed on Jenkinson.

Why are we signing a s*** right back when we have so many other priorities

I doubt the two things are exclusive.

Two transfer baths thankfully.

At very least if Rafa is happy with these underwhelming signings then at least he will stay on and hopefully get a lot out of them for a comfortable first season back.

I don't think Murphy is underwhelming, I think he's exciting.

- Will provide competition
- Has likely cost us very little. (Original report states nominal or free)
- Has played either side but RB is his natural, preferred position
- Was highly rated but hasn't settled.

Hopefully Rafa can improve him. If not he is another lazaar at worst and will push Yedlin

Chris Hughton, simply the best manager we had from 2009-2010.

I'm going to be so wrinkly.

At the same time, he has a depth of feeling. It means a lot. Some people have worked here who wouldn’t have a clue about tradition, about Geordie people.”

Mackem friend says he has a bit of pace, but thats it. Can't defend, can't produce a final ball.

Are we signing Danny Simpson?

Not gonna slate any signings we make this summer. I trust Rafa 100%. If he wants him in then go for it.
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” - Sir Bobby Robson

Again though, defending is all about the collective and Sunderland where utterly rank.

He was awful for the Mackems, they were saying they should have signed Yedlin and not this bloke. Not sure about this deal, backing up Yedlin I hope.

Simpson doesn't really have that much pace.

I think it would be unfair to read too much into his time at Sunderland, mind.

Same here, I trust Rafa knows why he wants him.

Basically Gamez -10 years, quite shrewd if he's even capable because he can cover either side. Not sure Jesus was ever up to it in the Championship, never mind the Premiership.

If he's that bad I will just hope that he turns out like Clark did for us in the Championship. I mean in a bad side many players look bad. Time will tell.
Hopa Rafa is saving the big cash for CM and #10 (I wish lol)

He's looked bad in good sides.

He can play on either side, so I assume we've bought him to not only fill Anita's boots but provide backup to Dummett too.
Can only assume he'll be backup like.

No need to assume. Rafa said that he was looking for someone to cover FB positions. He's got his wide man & CB. Now all that's left is the striker and CM he wanted which I dare say will be late in the window as the demand and fee's will be currently very high so it will be a case of us getting in the queue and see what comes our way.

I'd be interested to look at the Ciaran Clark thread when we signed and compare and contrast. I'd imagine it'll make for similar viewing.

Signing someone better than Yedlin would've been almost impossible given the amount of players we need. The right level of signing, just hope he does the business and can improve under the Gafa.

The same might apply to striker, so brace yourselves.
