Could do with a wee break from disasters, I have to say.

Just hope the minimum casualties possible, looks fairly grim though :(

Still smouldering away, any danger it could collapse altogether?

Apparently it's been assessed by structural engineers and deemed safe.

Such a horrific thing to happen, hopefully a heck of alot of people that live there managed to get out.

Apparently being watched as this is possibly imminent.

Some f***er needs to take full responsibility for the choice of materials used on this building. Absolutely criminal.

That cladding was done to 3 tower blocks near me, similarly as compensation for disruption caused by building works.

always takes a tragedy to highlight s*** that's f***ing obvious

wonder if this one ends up at the government's door in the end, total speculation but relaxing of regs and/or reduction in regulatory body funding etc. would not surprise me one bit

There's not a magic money tree to make buildings safe.  If you force landlords to spend money on fire safety they'll just go elsewhere.  The free market will deal with it and consumers will just choose not to live in deathtraps, naturally making everything safer over time.  Regulation doesn't help anyone, unless it's regulating if you're allowed to use Whatsapp or watch facesitting porn.

They had enough money to drape the entire building in flammable material. I'm guessing flammable costs a little less though.

6 confirmed dead, expected to rise - met.

I wonder could this be malicious? Hopefully not but in the sad times we seem to be living in, it's always in the back of my mind sadly.

The upper floors were supposed to be clad with zinc, however it appears that this plan was scrapped and a metal with composite cladding was used instead (possibly with Zinc being used as the outside material). Residents have even claimed that this was fixed to the building using wooden fixings.

Flammable shitty cladding all over the building.
Before that why didn't the Wigan fans just walk the the Stewart's, the Stewart's only went up to the touchline, their was a big gap between the end of the Stewart's and the stand they could have walked through.

I doubt it'll be that high - there were 120 flats or, so you'd expect maybe 200 people to be there at the time?  And it sounds like a lot of people got out unharmed, and you've also got the 70 or so that have so far been reported to have gone to hospital.

Everything about this screams scandal like, everything I'm reading is about how residents have been fighting with the council about this for years and have been greeted with silence / refusal to co-operate, or even legal action as per Bluf's post.
