He's one of them players that either gives away a penalty, gets sent off or scores an own goal virtually every time I watch him.

Surprised we've got so many Ciaran Clark experts tbh. I assume he's s***, given he's a Villa player, but I don't really have the first clue.

Crumptex for life.

Too boring for me to have ever formed an opinion on him. Guess it can't hurt to have four natural centerbacks

Basically, can't hurt to have someone who can cover multiple positions though.

How the f*** would your average NUFC supporter have one clue about a Villa left back?

 I mean, the Premier League is quite heavily televised in England.

Saw him play twice, and he was absolutely awful both times, although decent in the air.

Tbh Rafa at Liverpool made some terrible signings on paper, but always manages to mould a team, particularly within a defensive unit.

Maybe Rafa thinks we'll be more fluid with a left footed centre back on the left of the two with Dummett at LB. Who knows though

I think the only time I've noticed or commented on him was to mock him during the Euros.

Yeah, every time I've seen him play I've noticed just how s*** he is. I can't say I've ever seen him go unnoticed.

Even if he's s**** I'm not bothered, the way it's described he'll be nothing more than cover.

Well anyone who watched the Euros for a start. Plus he's made over 100 games for Villa so its likely a lot of people will have seen at least one game of his. He's not some obscure foreign youngster

Get in, he's going to be a star.

I hope the Irish upload a highlight reel of Clark in these two games the same way they did for McGrath against Italy in 1994. He has been something else. Oh ah, Cieran Clark. Oh ah Cieran Clark!

Fwiw, villa fans on Twitter are running with stories of di matteo saying he is definitely staying at villa from a few days a go.

When I watched Villa on TV last season, apart from the forwards most of the team seemed quite reasonable, including Clark. Brummie must have a better idea of what he's really like.

I've been saying for yearsCiaran Clark is a square peg in a round hole. There is no way he is a central defender and he never was, he has always been a holding midfielder, until the genius O'Neil decided to make him play in the centre of defence, without giving the lad any proper training in the position

Quote
Ciaran Clark was a holding/defensive midfielder, that is until O'Neil played him as cover at centre-back. That is why he hasn't got the basics of being a central defender in his armoury, although with decent specialist coaching he could make the transition, if he really wanted to

I'm very far from one of these people who knows something about every player in Europe but he's made over 100 PL appearances ffs.
