I liked your original title, fwiw. Just too much f***ing info. "TV Series" ffs
But only in their dreams can men be truly free. It was always thus and always thus will be.

Watched the movie a week or two ago (it's on Amazon Prime), will be interested to see what they do with this given it's not the 70s and American Sci-Fi isn't snidey as f*** anymore.

Pretty solid debut. Enough weird f***ed up-ness going on without really just blowing the load so-to-speak to really want you to come back and see what it's all about.

Seems really promising so far. Didn't realise the cast was so good, the bloke playing the dad stood out for me though.

Listening to a Podcast on Westworld, I'm not going to name it because I don't want any of you to go and listen. These Hollywood reviewer assholes are morons. They're missing all the relevant information and are speculating on backstories that don't make any sense. It also took them way too long to realize that one guy was a host, not a guest.

If he is a guest,  why is he doing it ?  Surely he would know before he entered the theme park.

Any idea what happens if a host shoots a guest? They don't really cover that.

Ed Harris was unaffected when James Marsden was shooting him.

Dur, I'm an idiot.

What about guest on guest violence?

I probably had too many beers last night to have grasped that either.

We don't know yet. You have to assume that in order for the hosts to be unable to harm guests (ie. bullet have no effect) that the bullets are always fake and the effects of the bullets are just simulated.

However, for there to be a credible threat from the hosts towards the guests (as they revealed there had been in the past) then physical violence is only prevented by the software.

In short:

guest on guest shooting - nothing happens.
guest on guest fistycuffs - laws of physics apply.

But I'm just guessing.

Early prediction,  the robots will discover they are just toys and will goo radge and revolt against their human masters.

Oh. I was so excited.

I loved the original film, and I hate remakes but for some reason I got excited by this.

It's not bad TV, but Westworld is a bad TV show. It's a film that doesn't really need dragging out.

Maybe if I hadn't seen the original I'd be more open to a long 8hr version, that asks questions about the right and wrongs of AI, but I don't think there is much to be gained. In fact the longer I watch the longer I spend thinkibg how unlikely the whole scenario is.

Just some vanity project if you ask me, too much style over substance.

Not to discredit the cast, there are some great performances in roles that could easily have been embarrassingly career crushing.

The writing was good also, with at least one moment of pure genius, but with this as a concept I can see their talents are going to be wasted trying to justify the existence of the plot.

All in all, it's a relief as I hate being into TV shows when they are on. I'll probably watch the whole thing in one sitting, in 8 weeks time and love it.

I've never seen the original but that seems like a fair assessment. Even in the broader scheme of sci-fi, there's nothing too original about the robots getting revenge on their creators. I don't expect much, if any, new ground to be broken. But it's definitely well made with great performances. I'll watch it for that alone.

Got to laugh at the idea that a black family would want to take a holiday in a deeply immersive experience, at any point in American history.

Ive not seen the film but the plan for the show is actually 5 seasons.

I noticed on the advertisements there is a tag line, something about a hero.  I wonder if that's Ed Harris' character.

The hero is probably going to be one of the robots.
