No idea how to do this so fancy nipping down to a computer shop to see what the score is.

Anybody recommend anywhere decent around Whitley?

Do it yourself man, it's a piece of p*ss.

1. Buy RAM.
2. Open cover.
3. Slot in RAM.
4. Close cover.

I'll have to check when I get in from work.

It's some kind of Samsung.

Thinking of upgrading my drive to an SSD one.

Is the performance difference that noticeable?

Also if I do I'm assuming that it's dead easy to clone the current drive?

Makes a huge improvement, particularly on older machines.

It's straightforward, just clone your old HDD to the SSD, then physically swap them. Easy as that.

Yes the performance is very noticeable.

I wouldn't recommend cloning at all to an SSD based on how SSD's work with a defined shelf life, it'll copy over a stupid amount of unnecessary files.

What would you suggest, a clean OS install? Licence complications that's all.

Clean OS install is preferable and if you haven't done one for a few years then when you upgrade the HDD is a good opportunity for it.  Newer laptops store license information inside the BIOS, windows 10 doesn't even have a license key, it detects the profile from your machine it creates.  Issue is the creating of an install disk for it.
