Your Favourite Bars in Newcastle
« on: Tuesday 5 August 2014, 12:26:08 pm »
Following on from the discussion in the restaurants thread, where do you prefer to drink in Town?

Ouseburn is perfect, for me, if you're prepared to walk the short distance from Town to get there. Quality bars and atmosphere, Tyne Bar especially when everyone sits on the grass bank outside...

I prefer The Blue Bell personally, it ticks pretty much every box.

Cheap Drinks
Nice Food
Pool Table
Big Screen
Terrace
Beer Garden
Nice Crowd

The music lets it down a bit though.

I love The Trent House like, I don't think you can go wrong with a good night in there.

Tilley's will soon be my local

My favourites have to be Sinners, Gotham and City Vaults......no? Ok, Shearer's is genuinely my favourite and it isnt because of SJP.

Nice places at Ouseburn, too.

Emjoying 5 Swans at the minute or any Weatherspoons. Always a good choice of ale at class prices.

Bridge Tavern on the Quayside is probably my favorite though.
Could it have feasibly climbed high enough to leave the atmosphere? ???

The Strawberry has to top my list but after that and in no particular order;

Tilleys
The Telegraph
The Forth
The Bodega
Rosies
Newcastle Arms
Long Bar
Gotham
The Quayside
The Bridge Hotel
The Hotspur
The Tyne
The Cluny

Probably a few more. All have decent beers / sites and generally okay atmospheres.

My God, how I have matured in these last 2 or 3 years...

Rosie's will always feel a bit like my local since I lived in town. Love it in there after a good result too with some good tunes on the jukebox.

In the Summer when we're having a rain/cloud free day there's no better place to be than the new bar behind Shark bar, I think it's called NE1. It has a rooftop bar and it'll only get better once all the renovation work is done around that area. Slightly worried it'll turn into a student hovel once they all move into the new giant accommodation block that is currently being finished.

During the Winter it's all about going to a cosy bar with a decent jukebox so I'd probably choose Rosies. Every time I go for a tab you can stare at the Gallowgate end as well.

Haymarket area is decent as I like doing a pub crawl from The Junction to the Goose via The Hancock, The Hotspur, Percy Arms and Three Bulls Heads. All decent bars in my opinion.

Bridge Tavern, Alvinos, Charles Grey, Tillys and Pleased To Meet you.

All tick a slightly different box depending on my mood or my company. Also happy hour at Las Iguanas. 2 Caiphrina for £6!

I think the only let down of the Blue Bell is the choice of drink on offer. Think it's quite a poor selection in comparison to most places now.

I second the shout for the Ouseburn but also still love The Bacchus.

Bacchus would probably be more regular for me if it wasn't so pricey. Every time I go in there I feel like I've stepped into Rapture in Bioshock or Titanic or something, it's just a bit pricey I reckon.

Aye, totally agree. Always feel like there's no atmosphere in the place too!?

The pub grub in the Blue Bell is absolutely tremendous, they always have the match on the dodgy telly too, it's a nice little place and only five minutes from me.

I very rarely go into town, tend to skirt round the edges. Tyne, Cluny, Carriage.
Jeff's Garage - Cheaper than some other garages.

One of the best English breakfasts I've ever had was at the Blue Bell. Cracking pub, don't know why I didn't go there more seeing as I spent a year on Greystoke.
