Massive bump of an old thread. Right, I've just completed on my new house, gradually moving in, and I'm weighing up which ISP to go with. The place doesn't have access to Virin Media, which would have been my first port of call. Any reccomendations? I'll be using it pretty heavily for... uh... 'Usenet Binaries', so I can't have any bullshit download cap or low Fair Usage limit. Cheers :)
Soon this will feel like a distant dream. Until then, may you rest in a deep and dreamless slumber

I have

BT TV (w/ BT Sports, record/reply etc)
BT Broadband (16mb, unlimited usage) but they must throttle it absolutely loads
Phone line (don't use it, don't have a phone)

for about £30 a month. Would definitely go for Infinity if it was available in the area, though.

They are just part of BT, really. They all use BT lines other than Virgin I'm sure.

Depends a lot of where you live, had Sky up in Norwich for 2 years and it was lightening fast, come back home with a supposedly better connection and the speed's w***. Can't really fault Sky though, never had a major issue.

Not related to Elrics post but Sky are giving existing Virgin customers half price tv for a year at the moment.

I've had Virgin Media for a 3 and a half years and had no problems with them. Always had the fastest possible internet, which I've absolutely hammered and not been put on any 'naughty line'. I have heard that people have had their issues with them though.

I had a problem with them a year or so ago, they sent out an engineer (always free of charge) and knocked money off our bill. I'm not sure I would have been able to get any problems solved so easily from anyone else.

I'm with Sky for everything. Pay £61 a month for Original TV bundle, Sports, Movies, Line rental, Broadband Unlimited and phone. Not too bad really. I did have the Variety TV package but downgraded it and that's when they offered my discount on my deal.

Alan Shearer:

404 games for Newcastle - 206 goals
63 Caps for England - 30 goals
733 career games - 379 goals
Newcastle's all time leading goalscorer
Ended his career by scoring against the scum in a 4-1 win
Turned Man United down, but lived the dream Alan Shearer=TRUE LEGEND

I've got Infinity unlimited and it's mint. Costs me around 70 sheets a month though like with SkySports, BTTV, phone/ line rental etc

Pay about £85 a month for the full package from Sky, internet is a bit s***. Thinking about just getting Virgin broadband in for an extra £30 but not sure if it's worth it, and don't want to be paying over a £100 a month seems a bit excessive.

It's worth it if you don't mind a subpar upload speed.

Downloads speeds are as good as you want and the connection is solid Imo although I'm connected via Ethernet

I get 53mb download speed on a 50mb connection. Wireless too from the Virgin hub. Tivo is mint too, if a bit annoying to navigate.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make

Aye download speed is mint.

Get over a 100mb down but the upload speed is always less than a 10th of that.

I work for BT, have Virgin and had Sky. Sky appears to be the best of all three to be honest, though my Virgin broadband is 158MB. Sky TV is lightyears ahead though.

My flat is only a six month tenancy, if I was to get broadband on a year's contract what happens if I move elsewhere after six months?
