Not today, but the other day I learned that the expression 'Daylight robbery' comes from window tax.

Cant fully remember if its the same tax but in Holland and could have been here as well, people were taxed on either widow space or land space...thats why you see old houses really thin/narrow...to avoid paying the tax.

Oh right, I see. I have no idea. I just read about the window tax that was brought in by the Tudors, and that's why you see a lot of older houses with bricked up windows, and that that's where the expression 'Daylight robbery' comes from.

I didn't learn this today, but it's a fact that has always stuck with me because it's just incredible.

More British soldiers died in the last year of the first world war, than in all of the second world war.

Aye its mental stat.  Another one, when the Russians pulled out of WW1 due to their revolution.  The allies, Uk, France, Japan, US and others sent troops to try and stop the revolution.

Wikki i know, but gives some basics

I've been reading and thinking about a few thought experiments from another forum.

And I spent a bit of a car journey trying to answer the monty hall problem, which I did!

That Bioshock Infinite is awesome.
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” - Sir Bobby Robson
