was this before or after jose gonzalez i wonder?  his is better imo but they're not a million miles apart:

So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Get Ryan Adams version of Wonderwall. Noel himself said its the best version he's ever heard.
Could it have feasibly climbed high enough to leave the atmosphere? ???

I'm not sure who did 'I Shall Be Released' first (Bob Dylan/Nina Simone...I'm presuming Nina) But both versions are perfect in their own way, so I'd definitely put that up there.

On the topic, I was just talking about this with my housemates the other day, I used to love loads of covers, but as I've gotten older and listened to the originals, I don't think I've ever heard a cover version that is better than the original.

Having said that I've never given leonard Coen a good listen, and I loved Jeff Buckleys version of hallelujah. Couldn't definitively say though.
A splatterhouse turd done in the manky toilets of a discotheque, brought on my the consumption of cowies or toot.

Jeff Buckley did a really good version of I Shall Be Released too, there's a version of it that he recorded over the phone to a radio station, even then he sounds amazing and just like he's having so much fun.

EDIT: Found this of Blur doing Maggie May by Rod Stewart

how could i forget...

i'm guessing these first two may be a bit obscure for some of you though i've posted them on the music thread.....

but you've proabably heard this one....
