If it's for business then ensure you get something with Windows Hello for authentication.

I'm on the US site but you can get either of these configured with 1TB SSD storage (+32GB Optane for the Spectre), 4k AMOLED display, 16GB RAM and a 10th Gen Core i7 for under 2k.  Both have touchscreens and convert into a tablet.

If you want good battery life I'd avoid a 4k screen, they are power hungry.

Not good enough that imo to what over laptops can do at those price points.  No need for 4k screen unless you are doing video editing because I have one on my XPS and it wasn't needed.

You're out of your mind, the battery life is excellent and 4k screens are in no way only useful for video editing.

Might be if you are creating 4K videos as if you don't have a 4K screen how can you tell what it will look like in 4K.

Aye, he's saying that's all it's useful for though.  What about 4k Netflix streams?  From what Beren said it sounds like his wife will be keeping it for a while so it makes sense to future proof as much as possible.

Honestly, 4K screens on a laptop are just not necessary for the vast majority of people.  Give me better refresh rate, accurate RGB, HDR10 and brightness please.

They're AMOLED screens, you're not going to get better.

We've got these lush Lenovo ThinkPads at work, touch screen etc.

Like them so much I just bought one of their desktops for home working.
So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Sleep now in the fire

ThinkPad X1 Carbon is probably best productivity laptop you can get.

Also good to see Apple are finally starting to make some good laptops again after a shambolic period from 2015-19.  New MacBook Pro 16 and Air look very good.

I reckon I'd probably get one of the MS products if I was buying and money was no object. Surface Pro X or whatever, with some fancy keyboard and s***. At work we get HP Elitebook 840s. They work, and have 3 year warranties. Standard consumer grade stuff tends to be 1 year owwa here.

My 2015 MacBook is the best computer I’ve ever had. Just suffers when unfairly compared on performance stats. I love it, still using it for work now.

Mid 2012 pro was the best they ever made imo. Still got mine, 1tb ssd and it’s class. Haven’t seen the new ones, didn’t like any of the recent ones
 I dunno. I'm starting to think it was us.

Usually you're compromising to try and eke out the best specs that you can from a budget when you're recommending s*** but Beren strolls in with his ridiculous number and it's 'Aye, pick a good brand and just buy the best one they make'

Had one of these at my last job, great performance/user experience. Only used it for very basic work stuff mind you.

You can pick up a 2012 MacBook Pro used for like 300 quid, when I spilled soup on mine (yeah I know) insurance paid me like 1200 and I just rebought the old 2012 and kept the rest. Upgraded the RAM to max and out an SSD in it, and it’s rapid.

Yeah, the surface products are great.  Surface Book Pro 2 is due a refresh.
