I think this was inspired by that Beatles movie, but I was idly wondering the other day if they had only made one song, which one would I want it to be? Then I thought the same about other bands. Here's a few:

Beatles - Day In The Life
Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Oasis - Acquiesce (genuinely a tough one, tempted by Slide Away and Columbia)
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (wanted to put Lithium, but no)
REM - It's The End Of The World
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Bowie - Heroes
Aretha - Do Right Man, Do Right Woman (the world still gets "Natural Woman" because of Carole King)
Radiohead - Karma Police (really diificult choice)
Oasis - Acquiesce
Blur - Girls & Boys
Prince - Raspberry Beret
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Led Zep - When The Levee Breaks
Madonna - Borderline
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Elton John - Rocket Man
Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel
Dylan - Tangled Up In Blue
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (another tough choice)
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas

I figured it had to be somebody who had a lot of songs, and also somebody who most people might have an opinion on. Like, the Ian Dury song I would keep might be What A Waste, but most other people on here (or indeed anywhere) wouldn't give a s***. I managed to include the Top 10 best selling artists on here (https://www.therichest.com/entertainment/the-top-10-best-selling-artists-of-all-time/) apart from one.

Sometimes I went for the obvious because it's legitimately the one I would want to hear most often (Smells Like Teen Spirit, Bohemian Rhapsody), sometimes it's something that means a lot to me and that's why I went for it despite having to give up some amazing songs (You Can't Always Get What You Want, The Chain), sometimes it feels like it captures that band at their best and makes giving up the rest of the songs as tolerable as possible (It's The End Of The World, When The Levee Breaks).

Thoughts? Anyone you'd add?

Good list that.

Don't agree with the Michael Jackson one, would probably be Billie Jean for me but I think I could name at least 5 songs by him I'd rather than Thriller

Used to think the same tbh, but it's matured on me beautifully. It's almost perfect I think. I have a soft spot for Man In The Mirror and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough but Thriller has great hooks all over and the Vincent Price build is majestic.

I think I just find Thriller really cheesy, a lot more cheesy than his other songs.

Off the top of my head I prefer Billie Jean, Beat It, Wanna be Starting Something, Smooth Criminal, Don't Stop til you get Enough and Human Nature. I think Human Nature is incredible

I guess I just gradually came to realize what an unbelievable groove underwrites Thriller. Like, the bass is perfect, the little horn blasts are perfect, the funk guitar riff is perfect. I like when a song finds a great riff and just rides it into the ground.

If its like, song that sums them up, then Heroes is solid as f***.

Sons of the silent age is my go to off that album, mind.

If had to live with just one Bowie song for the rest of my life...i think it's Diamond Dogs. s*** is a jam in the right mindset.

Playing the last 30 seconds of soul love and then blasting off into Moonage Daydream is my s***, though.

Something something Rebel Rebel, Time, When I live my dream, Aladdin Sane, Letter to Hermione. [emoji38]

I love Letter to Hermione . Bowie would have been impossibly difficult if he hadn't made Heroes tbh.

Jungleland is like a Rock Opera version of Racing in the Street . I just have a very specific memory of a summer day as a kid lying in my room with all the windows open and Jungleland on the record player. Takes me back to a specific place and time.

I wouldn't be able to get away with It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) for R.E.M. Not entirely sure what it would be, but not that. Probably something like 7 Chinese Bros. or Driver 8

Five Years for Bowie, probably.

I'm bad at picking only ones of things, though.

Yeah, that's what made me think. I also realized while I was going through it that I don't care as much as I thought about, say, REM songs, whereas there were dozens of Bowie tracks I didn't want to Infinity Stone out of existence.
