Having a steam room, sauna, pool, jacuzzi etc makes all the difference for me like.

Motivates me to gan to gym, and helps me relax afterwards. I try to focus on my breathing and stretches in the Steam Room. Love it.

Been going on the treadmill before work for a few weeks now and it's generally been making me feel quite energetic for the day but the last couple of days I've been going a bit more intense (ran 5k yesterday morning and then did a pretty high-intensity programme today) and though I feel fine at the time, within half an hour I've been feeling light-headed and generally feeling drained and s*** for a good few hours.

I think it's because I'm not eating anything before or until about 3 hours after, does this sound likely? What's the general consensus on when/what you should eat when exercising in the morning?

What time do you actually end up eating?  I go to the gym first thing on an empty stomach, but always have breakfast afterwards.  Never experienced what you're talking about.

Aye I don't really do breakfast on a normal day. Don't typically eat until about 3 hours later and then it's only my mid-morning bag of crisps and chocolate bar at work.

Make sure you drink plenty of water. 2 liters a day, more when you exercise. Eat slow energy release foods like a banana, porridge or overnight oats. Chocolate milkshake (not a freakshake) is supposed to be good following a workout as it replaces liquid and contains protein and carbohydrates.

A chocolate bar will just cause a sugar high swiftly followed by a sugar crash.

Been reading The Last Diet recently, about psychological methods for sticking to your plans and basically being kinder to yourself. Working well for me so far, have noticed myself making much better choices with food.

Haven’t really got back into the gym yet but planning to next week.

Very interesting to read something that addresses my biggest problem, which is knowing exactly what I want to do, really wanting to do it, but still not being able to.

I’m not convinced those studies mean normal vitamins are a waste of time. Firstly, I’m not just looking for them to prevent heart disease or death, I’m looking to feel better. Also, I may not be well-nourished or exposed to enough sunlight.

I’m not saying they’re better than living healthily but I can see how supplementing with something like Vitamin D can be worth a go.

Here are some situations where a supplement may be useful:

Iron supplements if diagnosed with iron deficiency
Prenatal vitamins with folic acid before and during pregnancy
Vitamin B12 for vegans and older adults with low B12 levels
Calcium and vitamin D for those at risk for or who have osteoporosis
Fluoride for older infants living in areas where municipal water supply isn’t fluoridated
Vitamin K in a single prophylactic dose for newborn infants to prevent bleeding
Omega-3 fatty acids for people at risk for heart disease who don’t consume fish

Vitamin D from going out in daylight. NHS recommend taking Vitamin D in the UK Winter and Autumn as the sun isn't strong enough in the UK.

Vitamin B12 if you are vegan.

Omega-3 if you don't like fish.

A lot of food (bread, milk, non-dairy milk, flour, breakfast cereals, etc) is fortified with Vitamins. Most people get the vitamins they need from their diet.

I get these ones, has most the stuff vegan diets can be low in:

Eat a fair bit of ground flax and walnuts for the Omega 3. I steer clear of calcium supplements after reading a bit of Dr Greger's work on them:

Probably want to avoid most stuff that says it’s fortified, we wouldn’t need that if we ate decent normal foods.

Very difficult unless you don't consume bread, milk, non-dairy milk, anything that contains flour or breakfast cereals.

Bleh, I don't know what to believe. Wasn't really fussed about the debate, just wondering if anyone's had any positive experiences. Is it possible to feel worse? I've felt s**** this week gone and I'm wondering if it's attributable to me taking a multivitamin and omega 3, which my lass and I started doing a fortnight ago.

Been taking multi's and Omegas for years. Never had any trouble. Some people have bad experiences, as you've mentioned. I've seen anecdotally that they're hell for some people on an empty stomach.

What's the benefits for you?

I fast fairly often, sometimes for days at a time. If I'm either doing extended or intermittent fasting I'll take a multi to cover what I'm not getting from food.

I've genuinely forgotten why I take Omegas, but my nails, hair and skin are fantastic. So I'll just say that.

How confident are you that your calorie counts are accurate? You remembering to include drinks as well as food?

If you're eating well and exercising are you at least feeling better? Think people sometimes get a bit fixated on the scales when you might be better off just looking in the mirror, if you start to look and feel better and keep doing the right things then the weight loss should follow.
