The smell of creosote (no idea if this is a thing in America as well, now illegal carcinogenic wood preserver thing) is my childhood one, along with the smell of many coal fires burning.

Unrelated and not really suitable for thread but I've often wondered if other large scale sporting events worldwide have quite the same aroma of mingled sweat, aftershave, farts and pies that British football does

I think you'd have to replace pies with hot dogs over here.
But other than that it's close?

Reminiscing about creosote has also randomly brought back a memory of Reverend Jim in Taxi unexpectedly knowing stuff about Brazil [emoji38]

Hadn't thought about Taxi in years until I saw your post and it hit me. Those opening bars of the theme are like freebasing nostalgia

The hum of a gas powered push mower. the white noise of spring.

 One of the hardest laughs in my life is when Jim burned down Danny Devito's apartment. Whatshisname comes in and reacts to the devastation like "Oh my god!" and Jim waits a second and says "So it's noticeable!?"

f***ing brilliant.

I mean, I have no frame of reference for relative intensities since I've never been to a game over there. But all the major notes are definitely present.

Sure, we all shower in the morning, but showering or a bath before slipping into bed. Damn, that's something.

Something similar, the smell of paraffin oil.
Making mistakes is how you learn.
Every generation must fight the same battles again and again and again. There is no final victory, and there is no final defeat, and so a little bit of history may help.

I don't think he would have won us any more points than any of our current players.
