I had a TIA today. Now I'm afraid of going to sleep. Can't commend the NHS enough though, took me in at A&E quickly and sent me to a specialized stroke unit in an Ambulance within minutes. Was given the all clear and medicine and discharged, but still feel so scared it's insane. Stuck in London for a while though as apparently I can't fly for a fair bit of time, but we'll see what happens. Meant to go back home on Thursday.

All the best, my dad has had a few of them.

I think the Newcastle-Stavanger ferry was the only one, and that's long gone.

Fair enough, thought there might still be on from Ull or some other shithole.

Cheers all. Think the biggest risk has passed for a major stroke to happen now, as I got prescribed blood thinners and I am feeling better. Still really fatigued, and psychologically I'm basically f***ed. I had issues sleeping before this, and the last two nights I've just stayed up until my brain just shut off from tiredness, which is not a good thing following all this. Thankfully I'm not alone, not sure my nerves would manage.

Went for a half hour visit to the hospital about noon today to see a mate. Passed out in the ward, cracked my head off the wall and am still here getting tests. FML.

By the way I didn't die, so that's good depending on your pov.
So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

 Had a bit of discomfort in me gob Tuesday, woke up Wednesday and the lower right quarter of me heed was swollen up like a melon. I thought "that ain't right", but trudged into work thinking it would sort itself out. Said hi to everyone - turns out nobody looks at me, so nobody noticed. Brill. First on the agenda was the weekly criticise newsted meeting, where people lay into me for no good reason. Never been a fan of those, somehow, and I could feel the swelling swelling, so I mentioned it and said I needed to get it sorted. For the first time, they looked at me. "Kinell, yeah, get yourself away. AFTER THIS." So I had to sit there getting pelters for 45 minutes while my head kept ballooning, then send someone an email so they might not whine. Then I f***ed off home.

Phoned my GP. Of course no slots, the doc will ring later. None of this is verbatim, it's my translation. Doc phones two and a half hours later with a "f*** do you want?" attitude. Explained the symptoms and she was "OK, come in three and a half hours, I'll have a look." Cool, I'll look like the f***ing Elephant Man by then.

Wandered into the doc and her initial reaction was "Holy cocksucking Christ, you've been like that all day? f*** me, you're an emergency. I need to make a call to my mate at Maxillofacial surgery at the RVI. s***." (my translation ) During her call I learned the term 'trismus'. f***ing merry trismus to me.

Build in several hours waiting between any events from here. Saw a doc at their catchily named MaxFax facility, who said "yeah, we're gonna knock you out and slit your throat". My reaction was "those things will not happen". Doc said that the chances of death under general anaesthetic are vanishingly small and you can die from an abscess anyway, so throw the dice. Jesus, grim. I bargained. Local anaesthetic, drain the abscess, reassess. They did it, bless them, midnight drainage.

 The lady doc who did it said I would let them do anything to me as long as I was conscious. She got it.

Next day at lunchtime (not for me, I was f***ing nil by mouth throughout) she came back and said she didn't like my L7 and wanted to wrench it out. Fair enough, go for it. She did and the assisting nurse said "have you seen this before? The roots have grown twisted." And that's how I got an abscess. After fuckety odd years it twisted enough to leave a gap for germs to grow overfuckingnight.

That sorted the infection, but I still have a lump under my chin on that side, a self-defence mechanism, apparently, which might take weeks to go away. Like I need to be more jowly.

Apart from the eagerness to slit my f***ing throat, not feeding me or letting me sleep (IV antibiotics from 6am) and basically being imprisoned for 3 days what I found most disturbing was a lovely lady doctor (from the EU, so soon to be deported :() saying that as I had "admitted" drinking alcohol she had prescribed sedatives to replace it. That's not how it works, you can't prescribe mates and a laugh.

Anyway, yesterday a boxtick of doctors turned up and said there was no point detaining me any further. Seriously five and a half hours later I was allowed to leave.

Got home and told wifie and she was " This really is your first time. Waiting for your pills, was it?"

:okay:
:) As you were.

I hope I don't become a regular in here.

Friday night my shoulders were aching a bit, just assumed tension.

Yesterday morning left one was agony, couldn't even let the missus touch it. In typical bloke mode thought it would get better.

Today both shoulders again plus abdominals. I mean, I'm in prime heart attack territory at my age and with my lifestyle, and that sort of non-specific pain is symptomatic of that. Went on the 111.nhs.uk website, they ask you to complete a series of tickboxes and the result was "Phone 999 now!" Did so and the lass asked basically the same questions, only interjecting that an emergency ambulance was en route and telling me to take a load of aspirin.

 Super. Tony turned up and BP, ECG and pulse were spot on, but I wasn't taking any chances with that s***. I would urge anyone else to do the same if in doubt, a free checkup if nothing else, took an hour all told. I'd packed my stuff just in case
:) As you were.

Can you die of man flu? Been laid up since Sunday.
Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal: "From impending tragedy to near-triumph via the most improbable route possible - 95 minutes that neatly encapsulate 130 years of football on this particular piece of grass. Newcastle, United, will never be defeated."

Sir Bobby Robson - What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses or the marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

Still feel horrific. Been battling through work, as we've got a lot on atm, and didn't want to leave my team covering my workload.

Off Thursday and Friday, so hopefully can recover then.

I've had a nightmare few months after finding a suspicious mole on the back of my neck in the summer. First time I'd noticed it so went to the doctors straight away who got me an appointment at the RVI within a few days. Had the mole examined and removed that day and was told by the specialist and the surgeon that it was 'very supicious' possibly melanoma. Was told I'd get my result within a couple of weeks, but was due to go on holiday meaning I'd have to wait a month.....decided to cancel my hols and get the soonest appointment I could. I did a bit of reading up on melanoma and the world fell out of my arse when I found how f***ing deadly it is! The next couple of weeks was a bit of a blur and went for my appointment absolutely shitting it. Went into the room and there was two of them there, and one of them introduced herself as the cancer nurse. f***. They explained that I did have a malignant melanoma, but the good news was that it was pretty thin (less than 1mm) and classed as a 1b.....which has excellent survival rates. They looked at and photographed the rest of my moles and checked my lymph nodes and basically gave me the all clear.....but they offered me a wider area excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy as a precaution more than anything, which I decided to do.
I had that operation last month and they took a big chunk out of my neck and removed a lymph node on either side of my neck and told me I was to come back in January (then every 3 months for the next 5 years) as a check up. Last week I received a letter asking me to come in this Monday, and I knew straight away it wasn't good news, so phoned my Macmillan nurse. One of my lymph nodes had come back positive, which immediately moved me from a stage 1 to stage 3 and basically my 5 year survival rate went from 98% to about 48%. Saw the specialist on Monday and it was more positive than I initially feared. The cancer they found was of microscopic amounts (less than 2% of the node) and more importantly, hadn't punctured the capsule.....basically the node had done it's job. My man said that it would be 'highly highly unlikely' it had spead beyond there but couldn't rule it out. I'm in for a CT scan tomorrow to check if I'm clear, but am also having a full lymph node dissection on one side of my neck later this month, and immunotherapy treatment again as more of a precaution.
I've come to terms with it myself, but haven't told my kids or my Dad yet as I don't want to put them through the worrying I've done. Fingers f***ing crossed I get some good news with this scan as stage 4 melanoma is basically a death sentence.
