Don't know if it's damning to say we are hugely reliant on one of the world's best bowlers?  Can't remember the stats but over the last two English summers Anderson's taken his wickets at 16 - that's a huge loss for any team.  It's bit like asking why Australia were so reliant on Warne as their leg spinner.

Pedantic, I know, but Australia coped without Warne adequately when he was out with his shoulder and Stuart McGill came in and the other guy , Miller, I think his name was. McGrath being out made a huge difference to them, as we saw at Edgbaston 2005.

Was more talking post Warne/McGill - when they tried this load - http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/491355.html

It's not exactly surprising there's a huge drop off from Anderson is basically what I'm trying to say.  A fully fit attack of Anderson, Archer, Broad, Stokes and Woakes would, in English conditions, match the Aussies I think.  I suppose all I'm trying to say is that, among all the doom and gloom, having our first choice attack available would have made a massive difference, yet it's almost being glossed over.  I dare say the Australians would have struggled if you took Cummins out and had to rely on the rest of the attack.

Yeah, that's the best ever tbh.
Obviously, I'm speaking of a hypothetical world in which there is a greater club than Tottenham.

That's outstanding. I reckon that out fielding is the one area of the game that's massively improved in my 40 odd years watching cricket. Some of these catches are unbelievable, but also the saving of runs, turning sure fire fours into twos is something you just didn't see in the old days.

Here we go again... Denly pushes at a ball that he could have easily left alone. Same old mistakes over and over.

That opening partnership was the highest opening stand of either team in the series.

Broke the record for a 5 test series for the lowest aggregate opening partnership between two teams. By some distance I think as well.

All I want out the rest of this series is two more 'Warner  b Broad    0', hope that isn't too much to ask.

Root yet again not able to play defensively off the front foot.  For someone with 7000 Test runs,  his footwork is atrocious at times

Seriously, how many scores of 50-75 has he got in his career? Completely unable to convert 50s to hundreds, which can surely only be a mental issue?

Mitchell Marsh has bowled superbly. Gives the side more balance too, as I said way back at the start of the series but was mocked by Australians here. He may not be good at home but he's ideal for English conditions
