It's a total non-issue like, as a recovering alchie I wouldn't want to be covered in alcohol but wouldn't want to begrudge others doing what they're doing. Would do the same as the Muslim players did and expect it to be respected and not made an issue of.

You b******.  If we were in the pub and I wanted to start chucking my pint everywhere, you wouldn't even let me cover you in beer.

Some people, man...

Essex batted for 15 overs tonight and scored 226  One lad got 129 off 49 balls.

The boundaries at Chelmsford must be ridiculous as usual

Dumb question, do people think Root could surpass Cook in test runs?

It's possible if he can stay at this level until his mid 30s but I would think unlikely.

Cook's fitness record was ridiculous.  Cant see the same happening with root playing all 3 forms of the game.

He's already got a dodgy back.

Just a lack of collective preparation me thinks .... thought this might happen

I think Root needs to move up the order eventually with Olly Pope coming in at 4

As for who opens - god knows

Pitch looks great for the bowlers though. We'll be seeing the England bowlers in about 2 hours I think.

If there's one place you don't win the toss and bat under humid conditions with a green pitch, it's Lord's. Guess Root thought the red ball batting practice superceded basic cricket common sense. He hasn't achieved either.

Almost funny.  Only we could go from the high of winning the World Cup to this.

I do wonder if we'll ever find a competent top 3.  Just embarrassing.

And Moeen has to be sweating on his place at the moment.

I would bat Root at 3 - Pope at 4
Curran at 7 and Moeen at 8 (Moeen is still a good off spinner)
