When does this get good? As in stand out good?

Nearly 3/4 through series 2. It’s canny, certainly watchable but was expecting Top Tier boxset material (The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Broadwalk Empire, House Of Cards*) Not sure I’d have it in second tier so far (Ozark, Billions, Ray Donovan, Wanted, Homeland, Succesion).

Just wondering when it really hits it’s stride?

Always think the best series leave each episode at a point where you must see what happens next. Series of cliffhangers basically. Think this lacks that quality personally. Not saying it isn’t good... just not addictive good perhaps.

If you don't think it's on par with Ozark or Homeland I'd probably just give up.

Yep. Currently blasting through Ozark. It’s enjoyable nonsense. But instantly forgettable and a load of characters I couldn’t give a s*** about.

Think the absence of what you’re describing is exactly why it’s considered to be so great. While a bunch of exciting cliffhangers and miraculous escapes from seemingly hopeless situations makes for addictive viewing, it’s not really realistic.

Think of each season as one massive film, the stand alone episodes aren’t meant to tell their own story so much as just be part of the whole season arc which is why they often end in seemingly random places.

On a side note, I’ve been thinking a lot about this show his week and f*** I miss it. 😢

Think I’ve been through it five times and I’ll almost certainly watch it once every five or six years for the rest of my life so there’s that to look forward to.

The first rewatch is glorious, you’ll love seeing all those seemingly minor details that end up being critical to something that happens later on.

I can’t emphasise the last part enough. I can’t remember how long I waited but it was almost better on the second viewing. Absolutely glorious tv.

When I watched it I‘d literally wander around town daydreaming I was in Baltimore. Like it was an alternate reality for me or something.

I'm never met or heard from anybody that doesn't rate it as Elite TV. I have now.

I'll be honest with you, wasn't that into The Wire the first time I watched it. Only watched due to the hype around it, wasn't until I watched it later that I really got into it. Definitely think you're in the same boat, got similar tastes.

There's something about The Wire, it feels like it's lacking a punch, but it's as Shak says.
Making mistakes is how you learn.
Every generation must fight the same battles again and again and again. There is no final victory, and there is no final defeat, and so a little bit of history may help.
“What power have you got? Where did you get it from? In whose interests do you exercise it? To whom are you accountable? And how can we get rid of you?” If you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.
That is why no one with power likes democracy and that is why every generation must struggle to win it and keep it – including you and me, here and now.

Started series 3. Thought 1 was much stronger than 2.

Enjoyed it overall. Series 2 still seems a waste of time. Not top tier. Too many holes and contrived in places. Could’ve fleshed out the main characters much more. All a bit 2D. Appreciate it’s fairly old now so can imagine it standing out from the crowd more perhaps. Still good though.

Please tell me you don’t still rate Ozark above it? I’ve just finished season 2 of that and it’s like an ITV drama in comparison.
