Do you Podcast?
« on: Saturday 24 February 2007, 03:50:47 PM »
I got one of those cheapy mp3's from asda (£4.97) and I've downloaded a few programmes, like Fighting talk on 5live etc. - I think it's great!
Anyone else do podcasts or have any good recommendations?

Ricky Gervais has done 3 series which are hilarious. Still on Itunes.

Mark Kermode does one on radio 5 every Friday afternoon.  He's my hero.

When I take it out of the usb port it gives uz a bollocking saying that I should use the 'hot plug key' before  detaching any device - or else!

What key's that?

I've never really listened to podcasts before, a mate of mine is right into it.

He suggested Joe Rogan's who I like anyway from UFC and have enjoyed the first one I have listened to.

Are there any must listen podcasts out there?

I only really listen to football/sports ones. Football ramble and second captains are the best of those IMO. Another good one is "Flintoff, Savage and the ping pong guy". Some very good stuff in it. Savage isn't as annoying as you'd think either. Matthew Syed is the "Ping pong guy"
"Lots of young fellas runnin' around in shorts, that's the kind of think you like looking at, and I bet you like that too, only you're probably imagining what they'd look like without shorts, you're sitting there imagining that with a big smile on your face, ya dirty fecker"

BBC World Football Phone In is a must.
"Elsewhere, at worst, modern commercial football could be seen as the mall rather than the circus; insidiously bland, decaffeinated and pre-packed, its relentless formulaic repetition an instrument for disabling consciousness rather than manipulating it."

they're still doing football weekly but Richardson is doing some other one instead apparently. Probably Max Rushden as the new host for FW

two good shouts there, I'll throw in Revolutions too, by the same guy who did the History of Rome covers various revolutions from the English Civil War onwards

I listen to the New Statesman one. The guy is slightly annoying but in general it's pretty informative.

Football Weekly (but new one with James Richardson will probably be better)
The Game (Times football podcast - Marcotti can be too much at times)
Quickly Kevin will he score (90s football podcast - has its moments)
Set Piece Menu (really good football podcast with Rory Smith and Andy Hinchcliffe)
Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell
In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg
My Dad Wrote A Porno

Crimetown
Radio Lab

Invisibilia
Revisionist History

'The Documentary' by BBC World Service often has some interesting stuff on.

It's also great for letting episodes pile up to the point you'll never catch up
