Just coughed and done my back and now I can't walk.

I have a herniated disc and get weird stuff like this every so often so it's not as mad as it sounds.

Curious how many of us have screwed up discs? It became apparent back in June that I had a prolapse at L5/S1 and it put me in a really dark place. Being so active in the gym and leading an active life I was terrified i'd never be able to look at a weight again and have everything I enjoy taken away from me. I'm significantly better now with just some residual numbness in my shin and I start ramping up my physio with a strength and conditioning coach specialising in rehab soon.

Some tips for those who have a fresh diagnosis and find this thread;

1. Don't read the horror stories on the Internet, by far the worst thing I did. I couldn't stop crying through anxiety and panic attacks and this was probably the chief cause as I convinced myself i'd never be pain free.
2. Stay active as much as possible, even through discomfort, it helps.
3. If you sit down at work a lot, kick up a stink at Occy Health to make sure you've got a proper chair. Take regular breaks and walk around. Everyone should!
4. Above all else and one I wish I could tell myself 6 months ago, keep a positive mind set. I started to develop similar pains in both arms and i'm convinced it was psychological because of the mental anguish I put myself through.

I saw so many negative stories around this injury I just wanted to spread some positivity say that it absolutely can get better.

Special shout out to Kanji for helping to calm me down.

i basically did the exact opposite of all of this, coupled with being in a foreign country that prioritise surgery and invasive treatments my life was a f***ing misery for about 3 years after popping a disc

dark, dark days and similar to you i never thought i'd get out of it or back where i was even
So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Sleep now in the fire

So frustrating trying to book a doctor's appointment these days man. Called on Wednesday and was told there were no appointments at all for the next 12 days and the following weeks appointments would be released on monday so I'd need to call back then. If you call on a monday you end up being 23rd in the telephone queue, I cant really spend an hour on the phone when I'm at work 🤬

sign up for the app if your place does that?  appointments open up 2 weeks in advance so there's generally always a chance to get something via the app, even if it has to be a telephone app they'll then make you a priority one on the phone if you need to come in

Cheers, not sure if it has that, it's pretty rare I go to the docs. I went online and filled in a consultation form and they've put me in for an emergency appointment on friday 👍

Ailment rather than injury, but after about 8 years of having chronic facial excema it looks like it’s finally f***ed off. Used about 10 different prescribed creams and ointments over the years but good old aveeno now does the trick. Looking forward to hay fever now making a comeback after 25 years...  :hmm:

Pulled a muscle in my neck on Monday evening. Right the top of the back of my neck at the base of my skull. I've had a headache every day since, accompanied by nausea. Mornings are awful. It's not even got better. It's in such a place where I can't avoid using it. No head position is comfortable. Probably going to have to go to the doctors if it carries on, probably only for them to say take ibuprofen and paracetamol until it heals.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Sitting here in agony, cant tun my head to the right. Don't see this clearing for at least another week. Mornings are absolutely awful, eases as I'm moving, but by 4, after 6 hours sitting at a desk, it kills again and gets worse as the night goes on. At least the headache isn't as prominent, but only because I'm used to it.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Id the exact same symptoms for about 4 days last week Branko. Was utterly dreadful. Could only sleep in one position and work was a nightmare. I just keep taking ibuprofen and it went away itself.

Man I love prescription meds.  Did my back properly and the diazepam and painkillers make me feel great.  Still hurts but don't really give a f***.  Happily sitting around watching boring crap on tv for hours.

Took a whack on the nose last Tues at football, right hand side on the bridge - is it normal that it still knacks to touch? Didn't bleed at the time and it hasn't flared up at all and there's no mark or owt. Seems a bit odd.

So, I still have this. Was fortunate to get a physio appointment last Friday due to a cancellation (otherwise the wait was 58 days). The doctor I went to see a couple of weeks ago was really good and referred me immediately.
The pain is obviously a lot better, but it is still there. Mornings are nearly fine again, but that can change. Evenings still hurt, good days and not so good days. 5 weeks it's been now. Stopped taking Ibuprofen and Paracetamol which can only be a good thing after 4 solid weeks taking it daily.
Went to the gym tonight for the first time since doing it, which went well. Was petrified I'd anger it so went easy.
Best thing to come from it is the physio. Been wanting a proper phsyio treatment plan for my back for, pfft, years. Only took excruciating pain for it to come about. The physio was brilliant, too. I think my multitude of symptoms helped persuade her of the severity. The fact I get pins and needles in my hands when I sleep. Got them at the gym today too which was a first. The spasms in my shoulders, the pain, obviously. Last time I went to the physio they couldnt be arsed and gave me a sheet of stretches. This woman took 30+ minutes talking through everything, marking where all my symptoms were, history, and even managed some range of movement tests. f***ing brilliant. Got another appointment in 2 weeks and I think this time will be spending a lot more hands on time investigating my symptoms and movement. Cant wait.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.
