We sit here stranded, though we're all doing our best to deny it

I tend to remember the attention seekers and leave them out.

This process mostly just reminds me how terrible my memory is. I can only remember about ten posters. And anyone with a number in their username is immediately forgotten.

Must admit I didn't think too hard about it; I don't think you have to. I just put names of posters who I think are great without pondering whether or not they're actually THE BEST.

Aye but you're underestimating how s*** my memory is Yorkster. If I was to go vote now, I'd probably nominate you for half the things purely because you wrote the last post I read. Probably should go to a brain doctor or somethin.

Nope, just a boring story.

First email address was [email protected] so just kept using neesy111 as userid on the internet.

I can't even remember who I voted for  (and annoyingly 'sent messages' don't work on here). Although afterwards I was looking through the football board thinking I hope I voted Yorkie as best football poster. Your posts lately (I say lately as that's all I remember) have been superb and often raising points and perspectives I couldn't have seen but are often bang on.

May have voted Neesy iirc... your 1's didn't tarnish my memory  O0

 Really nice comments, thanks. There's loads of fantastic posters on here, wasn't difficult digging three up to chuck their names forward.

Is there maybe a better way to do this? Perhaps 3 or 4 of the ever present members, providing they've time and willingness to do it, just more or less decide what goes in what category. Must be soul destroying for K' to constantly have to harass people for nominations, knowing fine well people might have real things to do and stuff.

As it is, it's in the narrow hands of about 10 or so nominating, doubt the end results would be much different if 4 people just picked them without the hassle of chasing people up.
Making mistakes is how you learn.
Every generation must fight the same battles again and again and again. There is no final victory, and there is no final defeat, and so a little bit of history may help.
“What power have you got? Where did you get it from? In whose interests do you exercise it? To whom are you accountable? And how can we get rid of you?” If you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.
That is why no one with power likes democracy and that is why every generation must struggle to win it and keep it – including you and me, here and now.

I agree with this, should be a committee that decides the nominations and then everyone votes.

In general we get around 40-50 nominations per year, which is what I set as the "limit" for what is deemed a representative amount of the forum. This year has just been slower than usual for whatever reason.
But only in their dreams can men be truly free. It was always thus and always thus will be.
