I can't watch the first season due to the wife, she's awful.
Just ask her to leave the room.

Watching Man in the High Castle, made it to series two. Not sure it’s very good.

Took me far too long to get that as well. I definitely said "what the f*** is he talking about?" about 5 times over the last two hours, trying to work out how I tell Teri Bauer to leave the room.
Making mistakes is how you learn.
Every generation must fight the same battles again and again and again. There is no final victory, and there is no final defeat, and so a little bit of history may help.
“What power have you got? Where did you get it from? In whose interests do you exercise it? To whom are you accountable? And how can we get rid of you?” If you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.
That is why no one with power likes democracy and that is why every generation must struggle to win it and keep it – including you and me, here and now.

Apologies, it was not my best effort
Nah f*** this, worst poster nominations are back.
One year I deliberately made no posts in the general chat thread so I couldn’t be nominated for it, I still f***ing won.

LA92.

Don't think eye-opening is the right phrase, aware of what happened but not the scale of it. Shocking and not surprising in equal measure.

Netflix.

Wasn't aware a lot of the violence was shown live on news networks. Unbelievable but again, actually very believable.

It was eye-opening at the time. Changed me as a person. I had already outgrown  my own racist ignorance, and thought all was pretty good in the world.

I'd strongly recommend reading Fatherland by Robert Harris.  Takes the same idea as MITHC (alternate history where the Nazis won) but the execution is so much better.

Gorky Park is better than Fatherland. Fatherland is a cheap copy.

Fatherland is an excellent book and entirely different in premise, plot and execution to Gorky Park (which is excellent as well) so can't see the comparison myself.
Haven't seen MITHC so can't compare but I thought it had good reviews for the first season or so?
'Us' = Stenhousemuir for the forseeable.

Don't get me wrong, it's great. I just kept thinking it was a very similar story.

I never realised how much of a bitch me and the wife are until we watched Interior Design Masters, I'm just calling them all the time and then at the end "its quite nice actually" but I do hate one of them already

Fatherland is superior in every way imo. A much smaller in scope alternate universe book, but such a great detective story. Robert Harris has a bunch of fantastic novels. His Cicero series, and the Dreyfus Affair one 'An Officer and a Spy' are top notch. Liked Munich and The Second Sleep as well.

The Cicero series does exalt Cicero a bit too much though. His own hubris and ambition had a sizable role to play (that is too often underplayed) in the dissolution of the Republic. But it is from the perspective of his slave secretary Tiro, who certainly had a high opinion of him.

Love the Cicero trilogy, though thought the last one (Dictator) seemed a bit rushed and hap hazard..given we had waited a few years for it.
Think 'An officer and a spy' is being made into a film?

Already distributed, although who knows when it will be released here. No release plans for the U.S. I believe nonce Polanski did it.
