The coronavirus has the potential to end the current cycle in the global economy. The forward looking forecasts for tourism and meetings/convention travel to Asia is looking horrendous. Some 70% down over the next 3 months as compared to same time last year. When you’re entering a very strong period of the year for the Asian power markets. Very worrisome.

There was a bit on Look North a couple of weeks back saying the same about the Chinese/East Asian students in town. As sad as it is predictable.

Sadly, there is a good chance of it happening. I dread it when there is a terror attack here. The irony is my wife is far likelier to be attacked by someone in the white populace than they are by the brown/Muslim/dirty foigener populace. It’s happened several times now.

Hopefully your lass won’t encounter any s***.

Two Iranians have died in hospital after testing positive for the new coronavirus in the holy Shi'ite city of Qom, the head of the city's University of Medical Sciences told Mehr news agency on Wednesday.
"Two Iranians, who tested positive earlier today for new coronavirus, died of respiratory illness," the official told Mehr. Qom is located 140 km (87 miles) south of Tehran, and is home to over a million people.

Not good.  Was recently a religious festival there too.

I'm deep inside your children

cheers, i usually play things down as not race related when she mentions stuff as its never overt and i often feel it comes down to a lot of people not being able to deal with foreign accents etc. but benefit of the doubt is out the window now in brexitland

trouble is it'll almost certainly never happen when i'm around to do something about it of course

These two seem likely to be just the tip of the iceberg in Iran.  Looks like they haven't been testing and now 25 people in the same hospital are quarantined with suspected Covid-19 infections.  They haven't been abroad or even outside Qom so it's virtually certain it's spreading undetected in Iran right now.

Was always the worst case that whilst China shuts it down and western countries become precautious that some Developing countries reliant on Chinese money would  be the next countries to have an outbreak, and they won’t be able to control it as well  the Chinese are.

Is that the same uncle who made his fortune smuggling into North Korea?

Woman in Singapore managed to get dengue and Covid-19 at the same time.  That's some bad luck.

@Troll Could those two viruses recombine if they're both infecting the same host?

@Troll Could those two viruses recombine if they're both infecting the same host?

Viruses have to be similar to recombine.  SARS and covid-19 potentially could because they're both coronaviruses, but denguevirus is too different.  It's why you can have bird flu and human flu recombine, but fluaids doesn't exist.

I doubt the two viruses would even come in contact anyway, even in the same person.  One infects the respiratory tract, the other infects white blood cells.

Earlier today (Feb. 22), South Korea has already reported 142 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection.

Of the 142 new cases, 92 are related to Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, where the first death in South Korea was reported on Thursday.

The 63-year-old deceased had been staying in the hospital for over 20 years. Along with him, another 14 patients were also confirmed infected.

As these patients were already staying in the hospital for a long time prior to their Covid-19 infection, the South Korean health authorities voiced concerns over the possibility of a mass infection in the hospital at Cheongdo on Thursday.

Together with the recently-announced 87 cases, this represents the biggest jump in confirmed cases in South Korea in a single day.

As of the timing of writing, a total of 229 new cases have been reported today, bringing the total number of infection in South Korea to 433.
