He's the type of player you get in January when you're not prepared to pay the odds (let alone 'over the odds'). Players that are out of favour and/or unproven and/or damaged goods and/or unfit. Maybe there's a market out there, from time to time, which represents opportunity and value, like the cases of MLS/Miggy and France/Sissoko et al, but you tend to need good connections and good scouts for that.

Bentaleb's clearly in the mould of agents chucking their unwanted players to the four winds in the hope that someone is desperate enough to take a punt; see Doumbia. He won't have been scouted, how could he have been? He hasn't been playing.

Meh. Maybe he'll do alright. But I'm absolutely certain that, if Rafa had been given a competitive budget, a properly identified, transformative CM would have been very close to the top of his list. Diame rightly not retained, Shelvey unreliable, Hayden getting better but still could've been improved upon, Ki a stopgap and Longstaff with potential but unproven. It's a massively influential position and it can make or break a team. Rafa will have known that and I'm sure he'll have had ideas about what to do with it.

But then, maybe avoiding proper summer investment and scrabbling around in the January market - picking up unwanted lads who can't get a game for a sub-elite Bundesliga sides - is the key to taking us forward, which is of course absolutely what we're trying to do.

None of that’s surprising for us.

I think signing Nabil Bentaleb on loan is a steal. Will easily become the best central midfielder at the club if he joins. Good in both defence and attack, tall, competitive, an eye for a pass and can tackle. Scored three goals in the Champions League last season. I’m not a fan of Steve Bruce but I think he will handle him really well. Also, don’t think this so called ”attitude problem” is something to worry about.

He was good for Schalke before falling out with the manager. Probably will instantly become our best CM, but also, what's the point?

I'm angry and cynical about absolutely everything, though. Come to think of it it's probably getting quite tiresome. Ah well.

I think his problems is with the club, not the manager(s), for failing to attend German lessons.

Who knows what kind of state he is in. He has started two reserve games this season just before christmas and that is his only pitch time.

A welcome addition if he is physically and mentally up to it.
Chris Hughton, simply the best manager we had from 2009-2010.

Can't see that now
So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Sleep now in the fire

Trump will do well man. Don't know why but I really feel this will be the case. Really hope it will come to be that way.

Never underestimate the powers of Woodward and the bus driver. He was reasonable against them in both games too not that I think it'll happen.

Shrewd deal if he does well. If he doesn’t, not much money lost in attempt to bring in some quality.

He seems like he’s a player who can do it on both ends of the pitch - who are the best 2 or 3 if we do our 2 or 3 man central pairing?

Are we though? all the player who play there can hold their own. would much rather we got a wing-back or a striker.
