I think he will sign, but unfortunately I can't see any incentive for him to sign at this point. The longer he waits, the more other clubs will come sniffing, and the better the contract he's likely to get.
People generalise too much.

I'd love to know what the hold up is.

Be alright if we had an assertive manager who wasn't s*** scared of the owner.

Reckon the Longstaffs/ their agent will only agree to a new contract for Matty if the club also give Sean an improved deal at the same time

A contract similar to Carroll’s would be reasonable surely? Probably not as high as £75k for every start but something like £15-20k basic and £40-50k when he’s picked is fair.

He's a young player with seemingly his best years in front of him, why would he agree to a type of contract that is reserved for has-beens that can barely get fit enough to appear on the pitch?

Sounds like he trying to steal Mikes hard earned money. Sickening. He is clearly not a real Geordie like Steve or Andy.

They've missed a trick by not photoshopping Yedlin into Bruce.

Wonder if Bruce has been told not to play him because he’s trying to steal Mike’s money?

Seems the only logical reason given he’s our best fit midfielder next to Hayden

From the Athletic - Inter, Marseille and a Bundesliga team want him

Matty is still on the original professional deal he signed in July 2018, which runs out in June, and is being paid roughly £850 a week. Good money for some but Newcastle’s top earner, fellow midfielder, Jonjo Shelvey, receives almost 100 times that.

I'd be pretty impressed if he showed some gumption and went to play in Germany.

He's such a likeable character. Wish he has good consultation that recommends what is best for his development in the long term and don't sign anything this club puts forward to him.

I think he's going to be a really good player and if the club aren't willing to pay what it takes to keep him then I wouldn't begrudge him a move away.  Would be nice to see him go abroad if he does go.

Would also like to see him move to a different league. He’s a very English centre mid at the minute, lots of charging around but not a great deal of finesse or tactics to his play. Would love to see what a good coach could do for him.

I’d like him to stay here but I just don’t see him improving to a Premier League player in our setup.

Think I'd prefer to see them stay and become successful elsewhere in the Premier league.

Trump will do well man. Don't know why but I really feel this will be the case. Really hope it will come to be that way.

This. Would be pretty class seeing him go to a big club and become a regular. Would have a team in Europe to cheer for.

We are a shameful club in every way. Ashley has brought us - dragged  us - into the gutter. £850 a week? For f***s sake.......we get what we deserve....

It's nice to know you can earn more than a premier league footballer.

Also this has to be a mistake. There is no way we are paying Shelvey £850,000 a week.

850*100 ≠ 850,000
