Hopefully that will be the last time we have to watch Shelvey strolling around in front of the back four.

Doesn't look out of place, think he's done enough to show he can play in middle with this brother. Good strike for the goal, and great effort in first half too.

What a full debut but this lad, did really well, the small things and the big. I haven't seen a smile that big at St. James' in a long time.

Never seen pundits big up a Newcastle player in a long long time.

Even ignoring the goal, he was very good today tbf. Good range of passing and a lot of energy in the middle. Certainly seems to be able to strike the ball too.

I'm a bit detached now but even I couldn't stop smiling during that interview. Lush story :aww:

No nerves. Doesn’t shy from ball or situation. His strikes on goal were never snatched either. Fearless player. Wonderful debut and may he stay fit and keep it going.

Along with hit brother, this should be our centre-midfield pairing for the next 10+ years. He was terrific today and looks a real, real player.

Ashley will be seeing the £££ signs again.

Some errant passes and inexperienced moments, which should be expected but on the whole a hell of a debut. The energy was needed and really Bruce at last roll of the dice played a blinder playing up to the fans today with the team selection. It paid off.

Potentially such a great pairing with his brother. Very different players that compliment each other. Hopefully both can continue to grow and cement those places in the middle.
Chris Hughton, simply the best manager we had from 2009-2010.
