Des'ree came up with this beaut for 'Life':

I'm afraid of the dark,
Especially when I'm in a park
And there's no-one else around,
Oh, I get the shivers
I don't want to see a ghost,
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news
Life, oh life, oh life, oh life,
Doo, doot doot dooo.
Life, oh life, oh life, oh life,
Doo, doot dooo

Can’t believe that one didnt spring to mind straight away actually, f***ing awful
"I will tell you this once, if you ever tell me to f*** off again, I will crack your skull.”

On Abbey Road, George was at the absolute top of his game, John was pushing the boundaries with Come Together, and Paul's medley was one of the most ambitious things they'd ever done.  Meanwhile, Ringo was trying to write music for Spongebob.

Give me release
Witness me
I am outside
Give me peace
Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

Passion
Chokes the flower
Until she cries no more
Possessing all the beauty
Hungry still for more

Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

I can't help this longing
Comfort me, I can't hold it all in
If you won't let me

Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

In this white wave
I am sinking
In this silence
In this white wave
In this silence I believe

In this white wave
I am sinking
In this silence
In this white wave
In this silence I believe

I have seen you
In this white wave
You are silent
You are breathing
In this white wave I believe

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you
We broke our mirrors
Sunday mornin' is everyday for all I care
And I'm not scared
Light my candles in a daze 'cause I've found God

And the worst?
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

Some of Joe Strummer's lyrics were incredible I reckon. I think of Spanish Bombs and lines such as:

"They sang the red flag, they wore the black one"
...likely hinting at the anarcho-communist colours whilst also describing the fact the coalition in Spain during the Spanish Civil War to stop Francisco Franco was a mix of communists (red) and anarchists (black). Often a nice level of ambiguity to Strummer's lyrics, often not just one-dimensional/on the nose.

"The hillsides ring with "Free the people"
Or can I hear the echo from the days of '39?
With trenches full of poets
The ragged army, fixin' bayonets to fight the other line"
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

"Don't mean to be pedantic,
But I'm in love with semantics."

Heard that on the radio one night, no idea about the song or artist, but it was such pompous s**** it's stuck with me years later.

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior and another, inferior, is finally and permanently, discredited and abandoned. Everywhere is war. Me say war.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Mos Def and Takib Kweli (Black Star), Respiration:

Quote
So much on my mind that I can't recline
Blastin' holes in the night till she bled sunshine
Breathe in, inhale vapors from bright stars that shine
Breathe out, weed smoke retrace the skyline
Heard the bass ride out like an ancient mating call, I can't
Take it, y'all, I can feel the city breathing
Chest heaving, against the flesh of the evening
Sigh before we die like the last train leaving

That whole song just sounds like the city at night, it’s ridiculous.

My fave Dylan is probably Tangled Up In Blue:

“Helped her out of a jam, I guess
But I used a little too much force”

etc
Obviously, I'm speaking of a hypothetical world in which there is a greater club than Tottenham.

It’s good
Lyric-wise, my Dylan favourite is probably All Along the Watchtower because it’s so suggestive, like something is really at stake. f*** knows what.

Have to carefully word that s*** these days not to get flagged.

You will not be able to stay home, brother
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and drop out
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and
Skip out for beer during commercials
Because the revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruption
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
Blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John Mitchell
General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
Hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary

The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will be brought to you by the Schaefer Award Theatre and
will not star Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
Thinner, because The revolution will not be televised, Brother

There will be no pictures of you and Willie Mays
Pushing that cart down the block on the dead run
Or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance
NBC will not predict the winner at 8:32or the count from 29 districts

The revolution will not be televised
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
Brothers in the instant replay
There will be no pictures of young being
Run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process
There will be no slow motion or still life of
Roy Wilkens strolling through Watts in a red, black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the right occasion
Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and
Hooterville Junction will no longer be so damned relevant
and Women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day

The revolution will not be televised
There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock News
and no pictures of hairy armed women Liberationists and
Jackie Onassis blowing her nose
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb, Francis Scott Key
nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash
Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth

The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be right back after a message
About a white tornado, white lightning, or white people
You will not have to worry about a germ on your Bedroom
a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl
The revolution will not go better with Coke
The revolution will not fight the germs that cause bad breath
The revolution WILL put you in the driver's seat
The revolution will not be televised
WILL not be televised, WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
The revolution will be no re-run brothers
The revolution will be live

Jagged jigsaw pieces
Tossed about the room
I saw my grandma sweepin'
With her old straw broom
But she didn't know what she was doin'
She could hardly understand
That she was really sweepin' up
Pieces of a man

I saw my daddy greet the mailman
And I heard the mailman say
"now don't you take this letter to heart now Jimmy
Cause they've laid off nine others today"
But he didn't know what he was saying
He could hardly understand
That he was only talkin' to
Pieces of a man

I saw the thunder and heard the lightnin'!
And felt the burden of his shame
And for some unknown reason
He never turned my way

Pieces of that letter
Were tossed about that room
And now I hear the sound of sirens
Come knifing through the gloom
But they don't know what they are doing
They could hardly understand
That they're only arrestin'
Pieces of a man

I saw him go to pieces
I saw him go to pieces
He was always such a good man
He was always such a strong strong man
Yeah, I saw him go to pieces
I saw him go to pieces"
