Well aye, it definitely feels like a rehash, out with the old, in with the new, ultimately playing along the same format, and I find that disappointing.  Still enjoyed the movie though.

Agree on Luke, would have been great to see him flex his muscle more.  Even if it was just flashbacks or something, but he just whimpers out.
Making mistakes is how you learn.
Every generation must fight the same battles again and again and again. There is no final victory, and there is no final defeat, and so a little bit of history may help.
“What power have you got? Where did you get it from? In whose interests do you exercise it? To whom are you accountable? And how can we get rid of you?” If you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.
That is why no one with power likes democracy and that is why every generation must struggle to win it and keep it – including you and me, here and now.

I get the symbolic nature of it, but seriously, if at the end of Rogue One, had we seen Darth Vader sitting somewhere meditating a battle we'd have felt ripped off.  We wanted to see him kick arse, it would have been good to see Luke kick some arse.  All we've ever seen is him fighting his dah.

Look, I enjoyed it, and I thought he did great with what he was given with to do as Luke, but would have enjoyed seeing him flex some serious jedi muscle.  His whole performance as a failed hero was great, just saying what I would have liked to have seen.

FWIW, JJ had big plans for Luke. They might still even materialize.

Aye, but Jedi aren't Sith, they're the exact opposite.

Anyway, we've got the Star Wars thread for this, let's talk about Hatem (a Jedi in his own way)

The film would have been about 90 mins long imo if it was just that. I just don't care about the new characters at all but they are all very child friendly (just shouting like Rick Flair all the time and being dead earnest) so theres that. Didn't mind the Luke stuff, especially that one badass moment.

Watched Jumanji. Quite liked what they did with the sequel/but a reboot. Karen Gillan is mind-numbingly fit.

I recommend 'Miss Sloane' if you haven't seen it. Really good. Obviously 'Zero Dark Thirty' too.

Noticeably less grounded but decent enough.

Finally got around to watching Blade Runner 2049, well i loved it. Looked superb, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford were excellent, thought the story line was decent and the films pacing ok.

8/10

I liked how it builds the mythology but it's definitely less ground for it.

The Disaster Artist is not as good as its cracked up to be.

i watched that the other day, i can see it being great for film students and such and they've obvious gone to amazing lengths to recreate everything but it's not an amazing film i agree

watched hereditary last night, decent
So raise your fists and march around
Dont dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name

Sleep now in the fire

American Animals - will really annoy some people, but I thought it was very well done. Certainly felt fresh and a different way of telling a story. Right in the middle between being completely cinematic and being a documentary. Extremely slick editing.
Before that why didn't the Wigan fans just walk the the Stewart's, the Stewart's only went up to the touchline, their was a big gap between the end of the Stewart's and the stand they could have walked through.
God man replacement's don't have to 100% of best to 100% of a replacement.
The are both white, both intellects, both middle class, both the typical 'people who would have thought could never do such a thing ', all traits of a Psychopath.
