Halfway through our last Championship season, after bouncing around forums for a few years. I couldn't even drink legally in the US then, now I'm in my late 20s with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It's been an average life.

14 Aug 2005. 11 and a bit years now. I enjoy this place a lot, maybe not as much as I did because I don't have the same amount of free time and a lot has happened in life but I have a lot of good memories here and the people are awesome.

Two days before I was watching us in Riga against Ventspils in the UEFA Cup in Damien Duff's debut. Not exactly sure why I came here, or how I found it, but probably had something to do with that.

The day after Keegan's 2nd return.

I remember the buzz and lurked for the next 9 months drinking in the hope and positivity of the rest of the forum.

I only really started posting after that Hull/Xisco game.

Really tailed off my posts in last 3 years and don't feel as part of it as I used to, which is a shame - I blame Pardew. I hope to start posting more regularly soon.

Biggest High - Beating Sunderland 5-1 in first season back in PL / The signing of Ben Arfa
Biggest Low - Losing Jon :(

Yup, an age ago now but was the go to forum for me before the great migration.

Bit tricky to say when people first joined this place as it was going a fair while before everything exploded and our accounts were reset in Dec 2004. Or at least I vaguely remember that.

Could be all bollocks or a hazy shared memory, f*** knows.

I first joined Nufc.nu back in 2001 (as a lurker) and although it wasn't as busy as other Toon message boards it had a core base of very knowledgeable fans and I loved it. So much so I bought it from a bloke called Karl if I remember right. The board had members like Sparks, HTL, Dr Gloom, Leazes Mag and others whose names I sadly cannot remember, but all good members.

The forum used to get hacked a lot, but after I bought it we sort of consolidated things. I was a web designer/marketeer at the time and the web was changing. We needed a main site and a new brand if you like so we become Howaythetoon.com not long after I took over from Karl.

I was forever messing about with that and eventually it become established and was probably the busiest Toon fans forum/main site (Nufc.com excluded) on the web.

I foolishly would post fixtures and links to goals and the site was eventually deleted by the hosts and I also lost my internet connection after a house move which meant I was off-line for 6 weeks. Toontastic also got banned.

At that time I'm sure someone or some people set up a temp board, Skirge maybe? Leazes Mag perhaps? InvisionBoard software maybe!

Anyway once back online I and others together merged and created Newcastle-Online and for a while it was pretty good. Myself and Phillip Craig (an absolute star, where is he?) who basically programmed the site and put up some funds for it while I was on the dole (quite a few quid tbh), ran it for a while.

Then the forum wars started and members set up Toontastic and for a while there was some petty and shitty exchanges between both boards. I hold my hand up, I took great offence that they would leave and set up a rival board and made a right prick of myself many a time over it. Forum wars... that was mainly down to me. Cringe worthy s*** and embarrassing looking back.

I'm glad Toontastic is still around and I genuinely mean that.

We had some good times though and this very site was doing some unique stuff online. We had the who the f*** are series, behind enemy lines, player ratings and other unique at the time content which made this site one of the best on the web IMO and also saw us featured in the media a lot.

We had some silly times of course. The Hitzfeld campaign (laughs) and worse still posting a members private details online (my fault). It was a good wind up which I took badly. Board wars again!

At the time I wasn't in a good place personally and so I basically took time off and I don't know what happened to the site in between, but it went from N.O.com or .co.uk to .org, losing the main site.

Since then some internet god going by the name of Dave and his fellow admins and mods have kept this place going and thank god they did because it is without doubt a GREAT site and they deserve massive credit. I love the place to bits, its my first port of call online every day and although I don't really know anyone, I've met some through the Lockwood Cup and I just know the vast majority on here are top top people.

We seemed to have lost loads of members mind, or they have changed usernames. I used to be Grassroots or GrassrootsFC as I was getting into coaching and then become CoachHTT I think and then HTT.

I remember back on Nufc.nu we had just finished 4th and some members were debating how we needed to move Bobby upstairs and look at someone like Mourinho or a certain fat Spanish waiter...

f***ing hell 16 years I've been connected to this site or versions of it.

i remember your Grassroots username and who could forget Dr. Gloom!

There can't be too many lurkers who've been kicking about as long as me

What was your original username? Dr Gloom used to have a canny website, a vulture in a Toon shirt as his logo if I remember right. He was a very good poster.

Oregon Geordie I remember the most as he was like 70 odd years old and was a fellow fan of Sharks. I'm hoping he hasn't passed away like, but I'm not too confident :(

Calimag, Sparks, HTL, LeazesMag, Skirge, some blind Toon fan who could barely post, but somehow did. He used to get ridiculed until one day he said look I'm fooking blind man. Awww what was his name?

NUFC.NU was the good old days, about 200 members. I remember when I joined I was probably the youngest on the board who thought I knew it all, but I was quickly put in my place and realised I knew f*** all about the club or football.

As a club we were going places then under Sir Bobby. I'll never forget the day/night we bought Woodgate and Jenas. We were also linked strongly with a very very young John Terry.

I used to post on Team Talk before that which was s**** really, it could take days for your post to get moderated. NUFC.NU first game of the season against Chelsea and its 1-1. Loads were angry because we missed out on Zenden and Jeffers, but we got Robert and Bellamy and losing to Troyes hurt a lot of fans. But that run of games sharpened us and made us competitive. We lost 2-0 at home to Spurs Poyet among the scorers, I remember that particular match thread was quite vitriolic.

If people think N.O is up and down today, back then it was even worse and we were much better. But then perhaps expectations were higher given the KK years were still fresh.

Ah, happy days man!

Just shy of 9 years. I registered just before KK got that 1-1 draw at Birmingham which sparked our escape from the drop.

I still feel like a newbie.

Patrick Kluivert's close-range finish put Newcastle ahead after 31 minutes, but they were pegged back as Bramble headed in Steven Gerrard's corner.

Neil Mellor gave Liverpool the lead before half-time from Milan Baros' pass before the Czech added a third after rounding Shay Given on the hour.

Newcastle then had Lee Bowyer sent off for two bookable offences.

f***ing hell 16 years I've been connected to this site or versions of it.

i remember your Grassroots username and who could forget Dr.

Skirge was the blind fan man.

I may have the most tragic reason for signing up to a forum.

December 2002, saw a post slagging off Gary Speed and thought I'm not having that.

Post was by the now-MP Bridget Phillipson.

I became a member of the NO shortly after Hogan joined Hall and Nash.

Nah, it's been a number of years though.

Honestly, fair play to HTT and any others who worked on that dossier. It's easy to take the p*ss and I bet it was torn to shreds at the time, but it clearly took considerable time and effort and was undertaken with good intentions.

The main site used to get loads of visitors and I used to love that side of it all. The who the f*** are series was really popular. Buying from our rivals as well. It engaged fans of NUFC and other clubs' fans. I can't remember which book it was, but this site was mentioned as one of the best fan sites on the web with really unique content. Mind it had some s**** content as well.

Nowadays I think if the main site existed with the shift in social media etc. we would have no doubt been at the forefront of it all as a Toon site.

.com get stick but they have never changed and I like that because I don't like the way many sites have went. True Faith and the Mag for example are f***ing awful.

Rawk for all its s**** and stick is a very good site content wise mind, back in the day our two sites were regularly pally and I'm sure we have members from there on here.

I'm not sure. I think it may have been a health issue or something for LBW. I can't recall if it was vision or hearing though, bit given his disappereance I think it's fair to assume something with his vision. I really miss him though, he was always a ray of positivity sunshine in all the gloom that usually stinks up this place

Howay HTT, you can't possibly tell me you haven't realised that's me haha I've not changed my name since, well forever.

So from the other side the ToonTastic actually started away from the WWW as one of the old fashioned newsgroups you could subscribe to through Outlook. The website started as ToonTastic.cjb.net (I think) and then I managed to get a hold of toontastic.co.uk the forum started as a sub board on soccer24-7 I had to get a certain number of members to join else they'd close it down. We smashed that amount so much that we were probably busier than their main board.

Decided to create my own message board and due to the size of the news part of the site and the forum, had to find a new web host which happened to be the same as HTT was on. I'd already had the lawyers on from the club so stopped all the fixtures and videos but the hosts s*** themselves and still booted the site off.

Not entirely sure how I ended up chatting to HTT to make this place start but it was a good laugh and it turned out really well.

It was a privilege to be part of the original boards with such great posters and the current admin/mods are doing a better job than I ever could. It was definitely past over into good hands and will be here for as long as people want it that's a certainty.

It was a privilege to be part of the original boards with such great posters and the current admin/mods are doing a better job than I ever could. It was definitely past over into good hands and will be here for as long as people want it that's a certainty.

Whey hey, I knew you as Toontastic, but I get mixed up with that and Toons Taylor who is now someone else and you also used Phillip Craig at times I'm sure, that and I don't post as much these days and even more so read as much. Good to see you around anyway.

You are probably the number one reason N.O exists. The conversation between us two was akin to SJH and KK, we were the only two people who could save...

I was KK of course :D

Nah seriously, you used to programme and fund a lot of the site. If you remember we used to try out a few forum software and mainsite software, eventually settling on this forum software and Word Press for the main site.

Happy days.

I knew he was active on TT, but thought he was also on here. Self employed who ran his own business, I hope he's doing well!

I must admit, over on little Nufc.nu I'd look at Toontastic and wish we had as many members and I'm sure I joined TT to try and plug Nufc.nu at one point which got shot down in flames

For some reason I was obsessed with numbers, being a 'great' site and all that, probably because I went into it with an online marketing type thing. I used to own and run a well established webmasters portal and message board which was quite big in its day and I thought a footy forum could easily be changed into such a busy mecca of people about one subject.

I soon realised footy boards were about the actual people as much as the subject and that's why I think the board split happened because many Toontasticers didn't feel this was home despite it being a forum for all things NUFC and didn't like the tone of the site etc. hence them setting up their own home which is still home to them today. And thankfully so.

My own aim for this site was for it to be great, the best forum with the highest and best members and content and although its really is great today, its all down to the people who use it, the members. It kind of sorted itself out without my big plans, ego and s***.

Its in the right hands and place today, that's for sure.

Its how NUFC should be, supported, owned, ran and all about by its members.

One day...

Always felt N-O has been politically aligned to the left and Toontastic to the right for some reason

The Hitzfeld campaign

Remember that! The big dossier and all drawn up. I remember thinking the website was top class back then too, I bet it looks s*** if we seen it now.

Actually, just before I posted this I had a look:

Website:
http://web.archive.org/web/20060306094639/http://www.hitzfeldforthetoon.com/

Dossier:
http://web.archive.org/web/20060326225504/http://www.hitzfeldforthetoon.com/pdf/ottmarhitzfelddossier.pdf

I've actually been toying with reviving the "Who the f*** are..." series, but having the articles in a topic rather than a front page (obviously enough since there is none ).

Maybe a 'Features' sub forum or something where only authors can post new threads?

I really miss LBW.

Still active and the same as ever on Facebook. Great bloke! He has hearing difficulties but has learned sign language (I believe).

Who is/was Clayton/Chayton(sp?)?

Craig Hayton. May still get on Toontastic. I've got him on Facebook as well, he's another nice chap.

Found a forum nufc.com plugged for a while which I believe lead to this one.

Mine says since 2005 but I thought it was longer ago since I signed up. Am I imagining things if I think that I was a member before 2005 but the forum was put down and this became the new one? I remember one old post where I said that we should go for Rafael van der Vaart when he was 18 and played for Ajax, and he's 36 now  Not sure if the forum had the same name then. Or I've just been having too many beers in my life.

They couldn’t find writers, the original commitment of the site was to be predominantly as free and income free but that means you are looking for volunteers which is always an unreliable source and eventually ran dry. Craig Hope from the Mail used to contribute to this and many other sites for example.
