It's Everton I'm after. They were out of sight not so long ago, and considering the money they spent this year, it would be fantastic to finish ahead of them. But top 10 itself would be fantastic.

For a second I thought it was still the relegationmeter and you'd both lost your minds, but a 3 sounds about right for the top 10.

Whatever happens, we're safe imo regardless of whether we pick up another point or not and it's a remarkable achievement considering it's been done with the team that just about won the Championship.

Went 5, we've a game in hand on several teams around us and our goal difference is better than all of them by some margin. I can see two wins and a draw in the final games leaving us on 45 pts.

We're flying. Fancy at least a draw against Arsenal (although wish they had to put out a competitive side in Moscow on Thursday) and we should give Watford a game. No reason we can't get to the mid-40's at least.

Went 7.

Watford have Spurs, Man United and Huddersfield away. Us and Palace at home.

Bournemouth have Liverpool, Southampton and Burnley away. Man United and Swansea at home.

I reckon 8 points from 6 games gets us top 10.

Love this thread , voted 6. We're on form with 4 winnable games (include the Arsenal tie who are poor away from home and have an eye on the UEFA cup) . Optimistic outcome 2W 1D 1L. That might be enough for 10th.

Chelsea and Spurs could be ugly especially with Kane chasing the golden boot

£4m for survival plus an extra £1m per league position. Given that it's unlikely many of our lot will be on much over £50k bar Shelvey, that'll be a decent wedge.

Current Form

1   Burnley                   6          16
2   Manchester City   6          15
3   Tottenham Hotspur   6          15
4   Manchester United   6          15
5   Liverpool                   6               13
6   Newcastle United   6          13
7   Arsenal                   6          9

(Everton up next - current form rating 8)
Title: Re: TOP 10-OMETER

Actually in with a good shout of winning our next 3 games on current form.

Evrtn    (a)
WBA    (h)
Wtfrd    (a)

Burnley aren't going to trip up now, 3rd best defence in the league as things stand. But 8th place is attainable, 9th more likely. Some achievement either way.

Think we're virtually guaranteed 10th place as of this moment. Only Bournemouth can f*** that up (with our assistance) and their current form is a 6 with Man U and Burnley to play (only 4 game left compared to our 5).

I’d regard this season as a bigger achievement than the season we finished 5th and certainly a season I will look back on more fonder. The football hasn’t always been great, it’s been poor at times, but it’s all structured and when you watch us play now it all makes sense the earlier style we adopted and how we tried to play against certain teams. I love how we go out to win as well, regardless of who we play. Rafa sent us out not to get beat against City of course, but he also sent us out to try and win the game at a certain point or time. Give Rafa some onthe players Pardew had a his disposal and top 6 would be a regular occurrence.

When we finished 3rd under KK we actually started the season with 1 point from 4 if I remember right, but we went to Old Trafford and it was an even game, Cole grabbing his first of many in a 1-1 draw that Fergie even praised. As soon as we went up KK said we are after Man Utd’s title and when asked if trying to stay up was the main target, KK said I have the players and the fans to beat the top sides so just staying up was not on the agenda. We had a great season, playing wonderful football with a young team. We played better football that season aesthetically than we did when we finished 2nd. Although for the first few months of the 94-95 season we were immense. Best period/era we’ve had probably since the 50s.

Another good result for us today.

I didn't like watching Brom today, they are not the same team they were a few weeks back and that slam dunk of a win will have to be worked for a little more next week. Watched the beginning of the Watford game, they looked surprisingly up for the game, didn't look like a team that has stopped playing. Not going to be an easy run in for us I think, We can still get to 50 points though, and if we do we will be comfortably in the top 10.
Title: Re: TOP 10-OMETER

We're finishing 10th imo.

Was just studying the remaining fixtures of the teams around us from Brighton to Everton (13th to 8th). Everton and Leicester will pick up at least another win each and the teams below, Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth can't overhaul us unless with a spectacular change in current form - and they each have at least one very tough fixture in there. (Brighton in particular, who face Burnley, both Manchesters and Liverpool in their last 4 games).

10th it is, a spectacular achievement in itself given Ashely's 'shackling the club' policy.

We were in the bottom 3 alphabetically after the first match. [emoji38] I'm not counting that.

We lost by 3 or more goals only twice all season, with teams like Liverpool and Manchester City scoring for fun that's simply astonishing. The grit and determination instilled in this squad by Rafa was almost immeasurable, now it isn't. Incredible.

44 points is the lowest total needed to achieve a top 10 finish in Premier League history.

44 points would have been enough for Sunderland not be relegated to League one.

Where’s the site where you can see what the league table would be after a certain point? Would love to see what it’d be like since Southampton away.

Forget any ref injustice/softness/bad luck etc, just on the timing of events in games we really should have seen out +1 point vs Wolves at home, +2 vs Wolves away , +2 vs Cardiff away. I can't think of any games where we have gained points in injury time to counter these

Stick 5 points on and take 3 off Wolves and we re joint 10th and only one point off 8th. Small margins which whilst we haven't taken them, ultimately just further cement how bloody good Rafa is at this s***

And should have taken at least a point at Old Trafford.

Wolves are on their holidays and Watford have a stinking run of games. Let’s go for 7th.

29 points in 19 games. We’ve shown European form for half a season.

Rafa is about £50m + whatever is generated from sales this summer from making us a comfortable top 10 side. It sickens me how little that is given the TV money we get and yet it's beyond Ashley to give it out. What's even more annoying is if Rafa goes and we get someone else who is nowhere near as good as him, Ashley will back him in the market because he'll know he needs it to stay in the division whereas Rafa doesn't.

If the season had started before Southampton away, we’d be level with West Ham in 7th only 4 points off Arsenal in 5th and 4 clear of Wolves in 9th.

That would be something to do that again.
Saw a list on Chronicle about what clubs are spending in wages.  According to that list, Newcastle was ranked 17th in the Premier league.
So we are punching above our weight in terms of wage/league position ration.

Add to that the Deloitte money league where Newcastle are ranked 19th in the world and 8th in the Premier league which shows that we should have plenty of room to invest.

Hopefully the swiss-ramble blog will do an analysis of our accounts once they are release.   Last years accounts were a bit sketchy including some accounting tricks.

Just looking at the beginning of the season again - if we just were a little more lucky and a tad bit more experienced we should have had at least 5-10 points in the bag before Watford on 11/3. 5 pts would be 39 of 10th place (level on points with West Ham in 9th) and 10 pts would be 8th (level on points with Wolves in 7th).

I was looking at results from Cardiff (A), Chelsea (H), Man United (A), Brighton (H)

I said this a few weeks back in another thread, but based purely on the timing of events we should have picked up another 2 points at Cardiff, 1 at home to Wolves and 2 away at Wolves. You can add another point at Old Trafford onto this as well that I forgot about.

Nothing to do with refs, nothing with decisions just purely the timing of goals/misses that we should have seen through.
