Title: IFA Cup 2011/12 - Round 1 Draw: Ayr (h) Sat 3rd Dec - PLEASE READ RULES IN OP
Post by: Stu on Thursday 22 September 2011, 11:04:43 AM
Newcastle               vs      Ayr United

Relevant points from the Cup Rules - full list can be read http://www.internetfootball.org.uk/cuprules.php (http://www.internetfootball.org.uk/cuprules.php)

Quote
18. As per official IFA Policy the IFA Challenge Cup has not been registered with the FA or any other body and hence is not a tournament sanctioned by the FA or any other body We must make it clear that the IFA will not be held responsible for any injury or loss sustained by individuals taking part in the tournament. All players compete at their own risk and that by taking part in the tournament they acknowledge this.  Players may wish to consider taking out individual insurance cover in the event that they may suffer injury or loss by taking part in the tournament.

7. Match deadlines are as follows:

First Round: November 30th 2011
Second Round: February 29th 2012
Quarter Finals: April 30th 2012
Semi Finals: July 1st 2012

5. All semi finals will be played on neutral ground by arrangement between both teams.  Failure to agree dates, times and venues will be scrutinised by the IFA Committee and the match will be forfeited if one or other team has not co-operated fully in agreeing match arrangements

2. The final will held be at WorldNET 2012 in July 2012 (date TBC) at the University Of Leeds' Bodington Hall. Kick off will be 6.00pm and finalists agree to be on site by 5.30pm.  There will be a formal presentation at 8pm, immediately after the final, in the upstairs Hall of the Main Building.  Winners and Runners Up are expected to attend this presentation.

1. The IFA Challenge Cup rules are the same as for the IFA League

Quote
1.7 Discipline of Teams

It is the responsibility of the team to ensure that all team managers, players and supporters follow the agreed standards of behaviour both on and off the field. In the case of on the field activities it is expected that team managers / captains will remove the offending players from the field of play for the remainder of the game period. This is no place for hotheads. People wishing to behave in such manner should seek their entertainment elsewhere. Teams have agreed to be responsible for their own team’s actions so therefore there will be no need for any intervention by the IFA League committee. There will be no warnings on behaviour; if the committee feel the need to act they will do with Draconian effects to sides. This should not happen because you are all going to get on with it in the spirit it deserves.

Please ensure that you (and any friends who come along to play) understand the ethos of the IFA and what 'good sportsmanlike conduct' is. A fierce but fair attitude is more than welcome on the pitch, but this doesn't mean that you will be tolerated if you act like a t*** (verbally or physically) to the opposition.

Ayr will be coming down for the weekend on Sat 3rd Dec, playing NOFC in the morning before taking in the NUFC v Chelsea match in the afternoon and a night in the Bigg Market in evening, capping it off with a highly recommended stop at WTUTCT Pig&Whistle.

This year's IFA Cup requires us to submit a 'squad list' so can you stick your name down if you would like to play (in this round...or the next!)

Cheers

If there's a cap on players (say 15) I'll say I'm out (don't want to take someone's spot), but if there isn't put my name down in case I can make it.

25  I don't think it's a strict rule on players but I imagine a certain % of the registered players will have to be available for the final (should our team make it) on the Friday night of WorldNET...July 2012

Team sheets with the names of all players must be submitted within 7 days of every game you play.  This will ONLY be available as an online form on the IFA website from the 19th September onwards.

It looks as though we don't need to name a squad in advance, just supply them details of who actually plays in the games. I will clarify this with the IFA powers that be.

You just completed your payment.

Your transaction ID for this payment is: 4NY66693N3769753N

We're paid up. O0

Neesy Peesy Lemon Squeezy. So you're after a season ticket for the ground you were never going to set foot in again, and you're posting on the forum you were never going to post on again.

Now I love you man, but it just goes to show why you shouldn't make such sweeping statements you know you will be unable to keep to. Just makes you look silly.

Anyway, welcome back.

My good friends Provost and Mrs Farquhar of Mull Hall Residential Care
Home drew out the lucky names for round two of the IFA Challenge Cup
2011/12 earlier today. As per the rules this was a random draw. These
matches are to be played by 29th February 2012.

The Draw:

WBA vs Bury A
Clyde vs Hull
Motherwell vs Millwall
Hearts vs Kidderminster
Livingston OL vs Runcorn
Rochdale vs Kingstonian
Livingston GS vs PNE
Newcastle or Ayr vs Redditch

The draw for the Quarter Finals will be made on completion of all
matches or 1st March 2012 whichever is soonest

If there wasn't incentive enough, a home draw to Redditch awaits the winners...

Hang on. Turns out lass is away to Leeds this weekend, so my lift has disappeared.

So looking for a lift there and back, if possible.

I can give you a lift back to town, and a couple of others if needed, not you Nixon. Can't do picking up though as I'll be coming from the A1 not Town.

Rance - on a serious note that would be a massive help. Where's the nearest place you will pass in relation to Manchester? Leeds?

Couple of things, will the changers be open this time? Wont have time to get back home for a shower before the match. And has anyone got the right address? The last time i followed the postcode given in the match thread and ended up about 3 miles away outside some blokes house.

You live at the coast aye? It's almost a straight drive, all the way along the coast road, bear right at Jesmond junction with A167m/ oz road, keep going to cowgate roundabout, head right again and keep going until you get to Kenton bar roundabout, think you cross two smaller roundabouts before you get to it. You will see the pitches on your left just before Kenton bar roundabout, take a left then left again at the lights and the pitches and car park are 50 yards on your left.

Alright chaps, due to a later match being on the 3G pitch, we are meeting at Blakelaw for 8.20am

Changing room refurbs have been completed, so we'll meet inside to get changed/collect match fees before going out to warm up. Please make sure you're all in the changing rooms at 8.29am so we can all go out to the pitch together.

If I don't have your name and number, chances are you won't get a text from me...please rectify this tonight if you're still able to play. Still waiting to hear back from 3/4 people...

Also: the Ayr lads are obviously going out all weekend (they've all got tickets for the match thanks to Dekka) and they've asked if we would like to join them/show them around a few places after the match.

I know a few people will be heading home (MKSC, Duffylad (?), Theregulars, Nixon) but the offer is there for the rest of us.

I would argue they are for people not acclimated to the harsh tundra-like conditions of suburban Newcastle who are concerned for the bloodflow in their talented, shapely legs. I could always do a John Barnes and wear tights under shorts.

It's not so much a snood, more a woven scarf for all occasions. I don't understand you reference to Blakelaw but presume you inference is that there are some bad muthafuckaz about town who might not take kindly to someone wearing something that purportedly might make them a 'puff'. However, given the paucity of said mothafuckaz about town at 8:30 AM, I'm willing to the roll the dice on this one.

YES 3G for anyone who hasn't played at Blakelaw before.

Also, KO has been brought forward 10 mins due to a possible penalty shoot-out situation.

PLEASE MEET AT BLAKELAW AT 8.10am changing rooms will be open from 8am, so the earlier we get there, the more chance we have to warm up and make sure we have some organisation :)

Latest arrival is 8.15am, probably going to pick the XI from those players in the changing room by then.

On the weekends Newcastle are at home and we don't have one of these games planned, how interested would folk be in some 5/6 aside at Power League?

On a chilly, windy December morning, Kaisayr (Ayr United supporters) arrived at Blakelaw Park to take on NOFC (Newcastle United supporters) in the final Round One fixture of the 2011/12 IFA Cup.

A fixture that had seen plenty of hand-wringing in Runcorn when the draw was first made, eventually saw the Ayr supporters jump at the chance for a weekend 'in the toon' and a chance to meet another IFA team. Similarly, after last year's abysmal initiation to the IFA Cup (a drubbing in Motherwell, on a very cold, very windy day - although some players would later describe the day as 'magical'..!), the Newcastle supporters were keen to see if the chance to play 'at home' would help against the Scottish raiders.

With the regular NOFC keeper unavailable this season, the home side were dealt a blow when the original back-up was unavailable to play, followed by a late withdrawal of the back-up's back-up. Instead, the very first NOFC keeper (Nick) was ready to don his gloves for the cause as somewhat bleary-eyed squad of players gathered together for the first time in a couple of months.

A minute's silence in respect of Gary Speed was observed by all players. Thanks to the Ayr lads for letting us show our appreciation for a great servant of Newcastle United.

Despite having paid the Albatross Hostel 'management' a substantial amount (two Greggs pasties and a bottle of dog) to make as much noise as possible outside the Kaisayr team's room, it was the away side who started the game brighter.

A combination of no warm-up, unfamiliar faces (the Ginger Pirlo debutising at left-back) and a winter sun that seemed to be sitting two yards above the Ayr cross-bar, seemed to be causing the most difficulty for the home side. Ayr forced a couple of corners and had several clear headers that failed to trouble the home side before NOFC had even managed to make it out of their own half. Eventually, a sloppy piece of play by the Kaisayr right-back saw Kev Moore break free into the Ayr half, but as the covering defender eventually made it across 25-yards out, NOFC's leading goalscorer elected to shoot on his weaker foot instead of finding his unmarked team-mate on the other side of the defender..!

That half-chance gone, NOFC went back on the defensive...or at least what was supposed to resemble a defensive stand, mis-communication was the main point of the day, with club legend Colin Rance having something of a nightmare at the heart of defence. A hopeful Ayr through-ball wasn't cut out and the striker nipped in to put the away side in the lead.

At 0-1 down halfway through the first half, NOFC made a few changes to ensure everyone had a run out, Bahrainian Omar making his debut for the club after travelling thousands of miles to Newcastle just for this very experience (although he justifies this to his parents by claiming to be studying at the local university..!). A slight formation shift ensued, as NOFC tried to put the Ayr team under some sort of pressure, with some success, a couple of half-chances fell to the strikers but nothing really troubled the away keeper.

Instead, NOFC rewarded the travelling Scots with a comedic performance to rival anything Gary or Stephen Caldwell have produced for club and country, a corner was missed by THREE defenders (it bounced three times over their heads) but not by the Ayr player. 2-0 down and surely the interval was upon us? Nay, ACT I was swiftly followed by ACT II (the NOFC right back overlapping his winger and no-one covering the massive gap behind him), ACT III (another corner not dealt with) and ACT IV (a headed backpass that was in no-man's land and the diminutive Ayr striker nipped in for his second goal of the game).

Interspersed with all of the goals, a great display of sportsmanship/pity by the Ayr lads as a (possibly unintentional?) back-pass was picked up by our keeper and the referee awarded an indirect free-kick, at three or four goals up, Ayr kindly kicked the ball back to our keeper rather than mess about with a training ground set-piece..!

Thankfully, the referee showed mercy and blew for half-time. With the glare of the sun now behind our keeper, it was a chance for NOFC to get some pride back from the tie. A switch at half-time put Colin in goal, while Nick returned to his more familiar striker's role. Stu came on for Chris at right-back, in an attempt to shore up that side of the pitch, while Duffy dropped back alongside regular partner Jack in defence.

The half-time team talk simply consisted of "forget about the score, lets win this half" and the NOFC lads did a great job of doing this. Granted, the Ayr lads had made changes of their own at half-time and no doubt had their foot half off the pedal, but we were a lot sharper and more incisive going forward. Four of five decent chances had been squandered before a quick throw-in found Kev Moore in half a yard of space - as if any invitation was ever needed, Moore fired towards goal and saw his effort deflect off the defender to wrong-foot the keeper.

Buoyed by the goal, the home side tried again to push forward, a through ball to Nick Kane saw him felled by the defender/trip over his own feet (eerily similar to Demba Ba/David Luis in the later game), the ref awarded the penalty and the player stayed on the pitch. Kev Moore stepped up and smashed home his second, suddenly there was a note of concern in some of the Ayr voices.

Lo and behold, the comeback was right back on when a Kev Moore shot was dragged so horribly wide that it turned into an amazing reverse pass for the onrushing Omar on the edge of the area, he took one touch, steadied himself before smashing a neat finish into the top corner of the near post. Tears of pride and jubilation began to stream down his face as he thought of all the thousands of miles he had traveled to be here, representing the team he loved, all those hours toiling under the sun in Bahrain...

...then the referee informed him that he'd given a free-kick for off-side.

Just like that, the flicker of hope that we could have pulled off the incredible became very, very faint. It was shortly extinguished as NOFC once again failed to clear a corner and an easy header was professionally dispatched to seal the win.

Sadly for the Redditch United lads, there will be no early-2012 trip to 'Geordie Shore'; no slappers gagging for a mouthful of their saveloy dip in the Bigg Market; no hen parties necking blue WKDs for the young West Midlanders to crack onto; instead, they face a long trek into the frozen wasteland of Ayrshire for their second round match. However, they will get to meet one of the best IFA teams we've ever come across and who will no doubt be able to take them all for a great night out - our only regret from the weekend is that we didn't spend more time with the Ayr lads on the Saturday night - next time, next time...

NOFC Scorers: Kev Moore (2) (1pen)

Harsh on the defence if you ask me. Not a mention of the midfield/forwards constantly giving the ball away and putting the back four under pressure.

And no mention of the three saves I made in the second half either.

Colin's got a point, you lot weren't doing us any favours but then again we didn't cover ourselves in glory. Mistakes were made all over the pitch but only the defensive ones were highlighted, that's football for you though.

That's a good write up though Stu, i do wonder how you manage to remember so much from every game.

They're a very well drilled side who look to pass it and play some really tidy stuff. Was impressed with the bald guy in midfield and the winger in particular.

Anyway onto the next game.

As Venkman says, the mistakes or poor play up front aren't as noteworthy as they usually don't lead to goals - we weren't very good all over the park in the first half, but the goals were something else...it seemed as though the full backs were turning around expecting the ball to sail up the pitch and instead, Nick was picking the ball out of his net! I was gash in the first half - just not as noticeable.

Thought you had a much better second half Colin, some solid keeping and not a lot you could have done for the goal once one of our own players headed it out of your hands..! My fault for coming off the post, although it was the third or fourth phase of play O0

Yeah, I'm not saying we were any good like. I can put blame on myself for three of their goals. The first one I probably should have tried to clear with my head rather than swing a leg at it on the line, my back header was too soft - although Nick said after the game he thought he should have got to it, and the one where I lost the ball in the left back position was just ridiculous. I took way too much time on the ball and should have just got rid, although in mitigation after I played the ball back to Nick there was no way I wanted it back and when I did get it I had a load of statues in front of me all being marked which didn't help. I guess that is 10% Nick's fault, 10% the rest of the outfield and 80% me.

One thing that really narks me though, is the attitude that just because somebody played a 50 yard ball to feet absolves them of responsibility from any f*** up. Hollywood passes are fine but if you know the fella you are giving it in to can't make it stick then find another option. Equally hammering one in to the channel for Nixon or big Nick is never going to work is it. And unless people learn to take constructive criticism we are never going to improve.

 I thought the attitude and effort of the team improved as the match went on, much better than the attitude against Bury (despite the reverse scorelines!). I don't want to lose but it's a lot easier to take when you feel as though people are actually trying alongside you instead of going through the motions.

I gave you jip for being out of shape Colin, but my fitness was well below standard...back to pounding the streets before our next game :)

Nice report Stu, cracked me up :D

Thought we didn't have much of a shape after they scored their first goal, i came on and touched the ball 4 times in 9 minutes at it was all the the kick-off after they've scored! think it was a mixture of lack of match fitness and the fact that a lot of us never played with each other, not to mention the horrible wind and sun in the first half that resulted in them taking full advantage and scoring 5, in the 2nd half we got a bit of a shape and played much better, scored a couple and could've had more but we weren't lucky, have to admit i was far from my best and thought i had a  bad game by my standards, hopefully next time you'll see much more from me.
