Should have confirmation of a pitch tomorrow. Things were looking very bleak till Stu informed me that any time on the Sunday was alright I read the OP. I'd assumed Whitby FC were playing in the afternoon against Gateshead - a la NUFC vs whoever - meaning our game would have to be first thing, as normal. And there didn't appear to be much about. but I didn't actually look to see what division they're in, so I shouldn't have assumed anything without checking the facts first.

But i'll ring round a couple places again and confirm with you all on Wednesday or Thursday.

How's mid-day for this one? Can get Coach Lane for mid-day for two hours, or any time in the afternoon, and it will cost £110 - meaning it'll be over £4 a head. I've got to pay upfront and seeing as i won't actually be there for this one - someone who's there can book it. It's pretty awkward i know, cos i said i'd get a pitch, but it's a bit daft going round receiving £4 in the post and paypal from 27/28 people. That is, of course, if we do actually go with Coach Lane. But i'm struggling as to where else to look. I'm doing the whole thing a bit blind cos i don't really know where the pitches are in Newcastle nor do i have any contact numbers.

We were short as it is and now more have dropped out. In my opinion we need another seven names and i really, really don't think it's going to happen. I'll still make another pitch enquiry but i'm going to cancel this tomorrow if there's still a major shortage.

Thanks for collaring your mate, Slim.

Anyone else - can you bring your Dad, uncles, brothers, sisters, dogs, aunties? If not - i'm gonna have to apologise and draw a line through this fixture. The Whitby lads aren't coming up for a league football match, they're just coming up to play with us guys - so i don't want to mess them around.

Thanks.

Guy at Whitby says that they actually have a couple Newcastle fans in their (sizeable) squad. So as a last resort, say we get our lot from here up to eleven players, we can always look at that.

But aye, it's got to be by tomorrow because i don't want to be cancelling stuff at the last minute.

Slim, get onto them now mate, let them know we might need them. Would be great if you could get two or three along with you. We are desperately short. It'd be good to see if we could get some more names from here but, like we've said, it's not just exclusive to Newcastle Online. We want to give these Whitby lads a game and if your friends are Newcastle fans, it works for me.

Newcastle Uni was our last hope of a pitch at a reasonable price and there's been a message left on the chap's answer machine since yesterday lunch time.

:dontknow:

I've probably come out of this whole thing looking very s*** and unorganised but i genuinely don't know what else to do at times. :undecided: I'll give the bloke another ring later this afternoon (just tried again there, answer machine again).

Nice one gathering some players, though. Great effort.

Well i'm ninety miles away and dunno where the footy pitches are. I've only gone off what i've found on the net. Without being all high-horsey, i only volunteered to start scouting the pitches cos no one else had, and we had fixtures fairly fast approaching.

If someone wants to point the squad in the direction of a nearby pitch (and the Whitby lads, i've got the chap's number so just give me the details and i'll pass it on), then by all means - please do.

I'm gonna draw a line under my involvement in pitch organisation next season cos like i say, i dunno where stuff is. I'm not really the right bloke to be doing it if we're honest.

I also dont want to get high horsey but if someone had asked me earlier in the week I could have tried to find somewhere.

just rang gateshead, £48 for a hour, another £24 to make it 90 mins!!!!!

so unless anyone has another venue I guess we are knackered

£72's fairly reasonable in the grand scheme of things. What did you say to them? There was an application form process last time i contacted Gateshead, mind that was about three weeks ago. It was a lot more expensive n'all but that could have been down to a fixture pile-up following the poxy winter.

Thanks for enquiring, though.

This makes a lot of sense, cos it was upwards of £95 when i enquired.

Book the s*** out of it, i say. Whitby lads are all still determined for a game and we look to have a squad of players available now.

Think Jonbobson's giving Gateshead another ring now. See if we can push it back just a bit.

Is there anyone driving who would be willing to pick people up from the Metro? I think Rocker's gonna be getting the metro but i dare say he's not the only one.

Top price I got from them was £72, so that shared amongst us.

Had no info if theres a ref coming or not, but fee would be on top.

Not done this before but I would guess it depends how many turn up as to how much it is each, no more than a fiver I would say though, unless I've missed something?

oh, yeh, MOM fees? do we still do this?

Dont know what to say about today really.

Big thanks to the guys that turned up in time for KO.

Pretty dissapointed that those that did turn up in time were left without knowing if we had a ref or not, if we even had a team to play against or not.

The whitby guys got there for about 1135 ish, not their fault I guess and the fact that the pitch wasnt booked after us helped, but as none of us there had a contact number for them we just had to sit and wait to see who turned up.

I sort of took charge a bit and asked amongst our guys who fancied playing in goal, only to be met with blank expressions, and shoulders shrugged.

I paid for the pitch up front £75, as I had booked it I thought it was the easiest way. I had to take a fiver off our guys to start with, to see how it panned out.

Eventually I was informed there was no ref??? and when I spoke to the whitby team their capt said " oh we were on the understanding you's pay for this and we pay for the return game"

So I'm out of pocket also! :sadnod:

The Whitby guy texted me this morning asking me if it was alright if they didn't pay. So i dunno where they got the 'we were of the understanding' bit from. Obviously i said that it was ridiculous, and that surely each of them could trump up a mere £3 or so, but he wouldn't have it. Totally bizarre. I eventually just said okay mate, and that he'd just have to talk with our chaps and come to some sort of an agreement.  Can't believe they went away without paying owt. Scandalous that.

The game itself went OK. They were 2-0 up after 10 mins or so, partly down to poor midfield tracking back, but mainly down to having no ref and or linesman as thier first goal was a mile off side.

We got used to each other and got a deserved goal back by evs (mark) and that got us to half time.

Others turned up just beofre HT rocker et al, so we were able to make a couple of subs, again I was met with blank expressions when I asked if anyone wanted to take five to let others play!!

We had a couple of chances, one I wont mention again, but it was easier to score than to clear the 6 yard box!!! and the sneaked another!

Was well happy how we, and the whitby guys reffed themselves, such as the first half when they were 2 up, one of their guys was clean through, 1 on 1, but his mate shouted, " stop there he's off side"

No bad tackles, no hissy fits or out.

Rocker, not having a dig at all.

Just wanting to show the thanks, cos as it was I was looking a right tit, and at the very least we had an 11 to actually start the game.

I'm glad we had the option of subs, but to be honest I got no support or out from anyone really.

To be fair aside from sorting out keeper which was a sticking point we sorted out a starting XI easy enough and aside from the first 10mins where we were all over the show we grew into a team and i thought all the lads who played in the back 4 during the game aside from the first 10 played really well especially the two centre halves.

Once again, a big 'well done' and thanks to JonBobson (Gaz) for sorting all of the last minute arrangements. Apologies on my behalf, and Whitby's, for not passing the information about away team payment directly to Gaz - I was passing all the info I was given to Yorkie so that I didn't have multiple channels of communication open.

It didn't help that Whitby didn't inform me of their non-away-day payment until Saturday evening, but to be fair to the lad (Andrew), he said that he'd informed Yorkie (Matt) at the same time.

Basically, as they have to do most of the travelling for their matches (who wants to go to E.Yorkshire?!) they've taken the stance that they'll happily pay for any teams to visit them for a match. Which is fair IMO - it encourages teams to make the return journey.

What isn't fair is that JonBob (Gaz) is out of pocket. No-one should be paying more than the rest of the team for match subs.

Thanks mate.

The money is not a major issue, its only a few quid after all.

I certainly dont mind doing the organising/helping when ever I can.

I think if we had a settled "backroom" it would make it easier to deal with the issues like we had yesterday. also think its a bit difficult to organise if you are not going to be there, like Yorkie yesterday, then have to pass mesages on 3rd hand and so. Just really complicates stuff. Enough of a nightmare for the person trying to sort stuff when they are local!!

Sounds pretty eventful if nothing else.

I'm back in the toon now.

I'd be really disappointed if people there were silent when someone was going out of their way to create some form of organization amongst us all. It's a hard job to do made 10 times harder if people are so f***ing shy/gay/w*** to actually reply and talk to each other. If any f***er is awkward on SJP day, I'll kill you with a rusty f***ing spoon. t***s.

To be fair aside from sorting out keeper which was a sticking point we sorted out a starting XI easy enough and aside from the first 10mins where we were all over the show we grew into a team and i thought all the lads who played in the back 4 during the game aside from the first 10 played really well especially the two centre halves.

Yorkie, Its not a problem at all. Yeh couple of them are from gateshead/newcastle area, but what can we do/say at the time? pay up or f*** off!!

The guy I was speaking to , sorry forgot his name but was in goal for them, said we are welcome down there anytime, and they will pay for the game etc.

I approached him before the game and he said that there was/is some confusion regards payment for the pitch but they always do it that the home team pays.

We'll just have to head down Whitby over summer/next season Gary. Turn them over on their own patch.

Cheers.

i thought Mark was man of the match he was excellent! Chris and the other Mark also covered brilliantly throughout. We missed Stu and Patrick looked a good player but overall the whole team did well - we just need to get to know each other better...

evs organized everyone so i was quite happy to take a back seat in that respect - I felt a bit lost being the quieter one like. Mark won everything i just had to sweep and that suits my game tbh. I loved the chance of a few Coloccini runs too..

Aye Mark (evs) was a really good talker. Definitely made a difference.

Er, he 'informed' me (asked if we'd be okay with it) at 09:30 on Sunday morning, as they were setting off.

Dont worry about it guys, we will just have to arrange a return fixture and give them a whooping!
