I've personally listened to The Guardian one and didn't really get into it also (hear me out before you dismiss it) The Alan Davies: Up for grabs Arsenal podcast read the reviews over on iTunes and fans from all clubs love it, he basically just takes the p*ss out of Arsenal. Regular viewing and friends of mine who support various teams love it.

Any of you listen to any football podcasts?
-
The Football Ramble is class. 4 blokes basically just chat like a group of blokes at a pub, except they're pretty knowledgable. Not afraid to speak their mind either and say things as it is, it's a good humourous listen.
On a totally different note, if anybody's interested in wider range of football then '5 Live's World Football Phone in' is superb. It's on at some ungodly hour so I've never listened to the live thing but the podcast is a cut down version of it. They actually have some journos on there that are knowledgable and aren't utter c***s, South American specialist Tim Vickery in particular really knows his stuff.

Sounds like the Arsenal one, going to give that a listen.
-
The Football League podcast with Clem is awful, although occasionally there's a decent guest on. I listen to the BBC Newcastle podcast, Lowes and Anderson are a right pair of numpties but it's nice to hear the game back.
-
Guardian Podcast is still probably the best one around, but the FourFourTwo one is catching up for me. Recently started to buy World Soccer Magazine too, which seems to balance out the increasingly poor 'laddish' approach that FourFourTwo has been heading towards for years.
NFL Rant & Raves is the only NFL Podcast I'll listen to.
-
The Football Ramble is the only one I can be arsed to listen to. Very funny.
-
Never listened to the 442 one. Shall give it a blast next week.
-
like the guardian and times one football ramble world football phone in and for self hatred the sunday supplement podcast
-
The Guardian one bores me to death.
-
Its alreet like, has a Geordie on it.
-
NFL Rant & Raves is the only NFL Podcast I'll listen to.
 Is that the one they were on about on Soccer Saturday today?

 Is that the one they were on about on Soccer Saturday today?
Aye! They've been on SSN a few times, usually help out with the London NFL game and the Superbowl over here. Its a good podcast too though, they go through all the latest news in the NFL, have a good relationship with each other so its easy to listen to.
-
The Independent's South American Football Show has been a decent little series too. Hand of Pod is ok on the same subject but a bit more rough round the edges.
-
Fighting Talk is good.
-
Fighting Talk a boxing one? I tried to listen to the MMA one (Sherdog) but it just goes on FOREVER.
-
Fighting Talk's a sport in general one but there's a canny bit of football on it.
-
Ah right, might try that one; could come in handy for the Pub Quiz. Need to brush on Golf, Horse Racing & Tennis for the sport round!
-
Alan Davies' Arsenal Podcast is great.
-
Alan Davies' Arsenal Podcast is great.
Yup.
Even if you don't support Arsenal or anything, it's still funny.
-
Football Ramble and World Football. Occasionally The Guardian.
-
Love The Guardian, wish it was longer, but prodcasts are not very high a priority for me, so I probably would never finish an episode if they were.
-
Football Ramble, Football Weekly (The Guardian's podcast), and 5 live's World Football Phone-In. I used to listen to The Game's podcast but they spend about 35 mins of the 40 banging on about the top 4. Ridiculous bias. Oh, and they usually have an annoying Scouser on it.
-
I was at an awards evening the other day regarding football blogging and podcasting. The Football Ramble is an excellent one.
-
The 3 I listen to on a weekly basis are the Football Ramble, World Football Phone In and Up For Grabs Now.
-
This has recently started, just about to give it a listen:
http://www.europeanfootballshow.eu/
The European Football Show is a new podcast launching in June that takes you on a journey across the continent to discuss the stories that matter.
Presenter Dave Farrar will be joined by European football writer Ben Lyttleton and a host of guests, including Gabriele Marcotti, Jonathan Wilson and Iain Dowie, to go behind the European headlines, while there will also be regular tactical analysis from Zonal Marking's Michael Cox.
Coming up in the next show:
Spain and its problem of competitive balance.
How Sampdoria went from Champions League to relegation.
A former Premier League coach explains West Ham's demise.
The story behind Germany's new generation of coaches.
French football prepares for a new dominant force.
-
Anyone else listen to the World Football Phone in with Tim Vickery?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/wf
-
The only one I listen to is The Game from the Times, Marcotti is awesome. Used to listen to the Guardian one as well, but it annoyed me too much during the relegation season.

Recently got into the world football phone in, top stuff.
Enjoyed that European Football show as well today, good recommendation.
-
Will have to give that European Footy one a listen.
Love the Tuesday Club Alan Davies Arsenal one too. He's gone right up in my estimation from listening to that. I love how blind his support is.

Told you that was brilliant. It's hilarious even if you don't support Arsenal.

Guardian Football Weekly seem to have got over the don't mention Newcastle gag.
Glendenning was very confident they were going to turn us over at the weekend.
-
This week's Football Ramble was fantastic.
"Did you plant a flag in my daughter's centre circle?" :D
-
Anyone tried the True Faith one? Listened to the last two and throught it was alright, nowt special. Just two blokes talking about Newcastle basically.
Quite like The Game, but Marcotti gets on my tits a bit.
Football Weekly is by far and away the best though.
-
Listening to the latest "the game." Marcotti is a f***ing legend
Was so off putting initially listening to an American accent on a football podcast.
-

It's my favourite podcast by far, love Marcotti as a presenter. That Alison Rudd had some irritating things to say about the SJP renaming. Basically saying we should be grateful the stadium is being renamed instead of demolished or moved.

She always talks s****. And she has this irritating habit of talking over people (which is made more annoying by the fact that she's generally making a bullshit point anyway). Can't stand her.

I agree, she talks s***. Marcotti's one of the only media people I've heard actually point out that the club's getting f*** all from it, although they obviously did go on to discuss ridiculous hypotheticals of the idea anyway.
I was hoping Tony Evans would be on to discuss SJP, he's very against football clubs focusing on foreign markets instead of fans on their own doorstep, I think he'd have had something interesting to say, especially given that he broke the story in the first place.
-
Cannit be arsed with The Game meself like. I quite like Marcotti but I hate him as host. Mind-numbingly Liverpool-centric too.
-
Alison Rudd has always annoyed me, the most liverpool-centric "journo" on there, and when the debate was mentioned, i was cringing waiting for her to speak incase she came out with agood point and i was wrong about her...i need not have worried, same old shower of s*** from her like.
-
I've stopped listening to any others than Football Ramble and then World Football Phone In when I get the chance. The Guardian one started to grate on me quite a bit.
-

Aye, I used to listen to the Guardian and The Game but can't be arsed anymore.
I listen to Ramble, WFPI and Tuesday Club Arsenal podcast. Wish NUFC had a podcast as good as that.
-
Ramble has gone down massively these days, just too cliquey now.
I suppose it's expected when it's four fans rather than pundits, but they spend half the time on in-jokes.
-
Has anybody listened to the True Faith podcast? No fan of the Fanzine but I think the two that do the podcast are pretty sound. Only listened to the last couple and it's alreet.
-

I enjoy the Guardian one. Barry Glendenning is a bit of a smug t*** though; as well as a mackem.
-
I actually find Glendenning quite funny.
-

Somebody mentioned it earlier in the thread. Sounds good enough to start listening to. I've got about five going right now, not sure I have enough time for another podcast.

Aye I can see what you mean. I'd imagine it's a strange one to get into if you're a first time listener anarl. Still, I much prefer it to all the others with smug journalists on.
-

I have plenty of time to fill with them. Always look daft as f*** laughing out loud in public mind, Tuesday Club especially can have me pissing myself at times. Nowt as bad as the Ricky Gervais podcasts mind, genuinely couldn't listen to them in public.
-
I actually find Glendenning quite funny.
Yeah I do too.
It's a rubbish podcast for Newcastle, even when trying to, but I think their european coverage is pretty great, though they won't stop going on about wolves frequently, which is odd. Their ripping into John Terry has been funny.
-

I listened to a couple last season and haven't bothered with it since. Was OK content wise but their banter wasn't for me. TFR, FW, TC, HoP & BBC Booted/MNC are my podcasts of choice.
-
HoP? Two Footed Tackle is good but the sound quality is s***, too muted.
-
Hand of Pod I'd assume? Argie football one. Never tried it.
-
Would heartily recommend the Red White & Blue podcast, it's like a less manic Football Ramble, really good. Just started listening to that and True Faith to go alongside TFR and World Football Phone In. Hours... wasted.

Honestly, she gets her back up over every single topic. f***ing relax already, we don't give a f*** what you have to say. She'd be better if she could take the intensity down a notch.
-

i think its almost the opposite, i reckon theyve become to serious...they used to make alot of jokes but its like something went off on them and suddenly its like "right, we need to be more serious and analytical"...i used to love the 10 minute sections talking about Torres being dreamy etc.

anyone else find Dotun on World Football Phone In annoying as f***?

I personally think he's a good presenter, but can see why people don't like him. At least he's stopped singing now!
The thing is, the WFPI is only part of the 5-hour Up All Night programme (all of which he hosts by himself) so he has to be a versatile presenter. He does a good job imo. Though, if you Google him, I seem to be in the minority. :hmm:

In fairness, they do cover the occasional bizarre stories which you don't hear on other podcasts, the Going for Glold part is usually quite fun, and I like the Hall of Fame segment, even though it's copied from Wikipedia every time.
However, if I hear "Paolo Maldini" or "X years before/after the summer of love" again... :(

Fair enough.....he has his moments I suppose, perhaps less annoying than when I first started listening.
btw, just noticed the BBC site put up 3 WFPI podcasts back to back (I just assumed they were taking a break recently)...
-
Hand of Pod I'd assume? Argie football one. Never tried it.
 I'd only recommend if you had a decent interest, I've learned loads from it like. The Copa America previews were superb though.
WFPI is let down by its callers (as has been mentioned before repeatedly) more than it's host especially when it has Brassell and Vickery who are so knowledgeable and get their point across so well it's ridiculous.
-
Download podcasts on iPod. Plug iPod into computer to charge over night. Take iPod in a hurry in the morning, podcasts have been deleted (moved) from iPod. Why the f does it do this?

The premise of WFPI is great, as you rightly say though it's let down by a poor range of questions and the host. I appreciate Dotun isn't a sports presenter, but the episode I was listening to last night he wasted a good 5 minutes going on about his boss and singing.
I know it's the graveyard shift but for me something with Mark Chapman would be much better, I love him on booted. He acts like he knows little to nothing on the subject and really listens to the guests answers.
-
Mark Chapman.
-
Just noticed theres been more European Football Shows lately. One episode is focused on tactics and the other spends a bit of time giving NUFC credit.

Really random but I was proper touched by the minutes applause they had for Gary Speed of the WFPI. Made for abysmal radio but a great touch none the less.

I normally skip football podcasts after a bad loss, but I've obviously got to give this one a listen
-
Same here, guess I'll be doing the same.
-
Skip podcasts if we lose? Bizarre. Football Ramble is streets ahead of anything else I've tried like.
-

I need to forget about it all week and usually can't bear to listen to people talking about it.
After particularly s*** losses like last week I usually try to avoid football altogether.
-
When saying bad loss I thought you meant Speed, not the Chelsea game.
I don't avoid podcasts when we lose, sometimes go to bed before we're on MOTD like.
-
Did anyone start a Newcastle podcast?
-
There's a True Faith one, I follow the lads that do it on twitter where they are quite funny, rarely listen to the shows though.
There's also a ShiteSeats one that's new, not listened to any of theirs yet.

The Shiteseats lads are canny, not heard their podcast though. Surprised people off here haven't sorted something tbh.

Love Guardian's Football Weekly. Dislike Glendenning though.

Pretty much. I don't usually watch MOTD or any highlight show either. I don't even like to post on here, except for maybe 30 minutes after a loss, for a day or so.
-
I listen to Beyond the Pitch, which can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, except for when they have Phillipe Auclair, the legendary Ray Hudson (his preview of the clasico was rather entertaining, and the weekly show they have with Warren Centre Partin'
The Barton one from after the Chelsea game was quite interesting if you get the chance to listen to it - it's about 32 mins onwards.
Warren basically said very bluntly that Mike Dean is someone who makes controversial decisions on purpose, and he's like that whenever he has been in his company that he's very self-important.
Imagine if a manager said that...
-
I must admit Guardian Weekly is starting to grate on me. I'm not sure if Richardson was bullied by a Newcastle fan but he doesn't even seem to give us the lickings of a dog. Meanwhile Sunderland have 'The O'Neill factor'. Admittedly I don't listen to it for Newcastle coverage but it's still becoming annoying.
-
It's a 4hr special World Football Phone In special tonight. I've even sent a question in.
-
Aye I decided to skip it this week for that reason. Their hatred of Newcastle is quite ridiculous.
-
I think it started off with idiot supporters commenting to them, then they started getting abuse for mocking the idiots and not giving more time to Newcastle and then it became a running joke to not feature much of Newcastle, to which people would call them all sorts and so they just sacked off Newcastle almost completely.
Personally not arsed that they don't include us. Only really listen to podcasts for lower divisions and other leagues round ups.
-
I can't get away with the Guardian podcast really, they just seem like a bunch of smug t***s.
-

I just find it boring. Same goes for The Times.
Excuse the cretinous word choice but the banter is better on say the Ramble.

With the Ramble I did the same thing I always do when I discover something late - fell in love with it, listened to it far too much, got bored of it, hated it, then developed a more logical view of it. When it's funny it's really funny and I look forward to it every week again now.
-
The Guardian podcast is hideous. Arrogant, unfunny and smug would be how I'd sum up pretty much all of their panelists, especially Richardson the bloke's a f***ing c***.
-
Been getting into World Football Phone-In, good discussions. Their U.S.-correspondent Sean "Big Wheel" Wheelock is a bit of a douche.
Grantland's Men in Blazers is a favorite, though they cater mostly to a North American audience.

I love the WFPI, like. Vickery is great and Mina Rzouki is good too. Was even better when Andy Brassell was on, I'm not keen on their African correspondents.
-
I dunno, I just don't like him. Anyone with the nickname "Big Wheel" has to be a bit of a turd.
Vickery is great.
-

Bang on. Used to love Richardson back in the football Italia days, he's an absolute hat now like. And as for glendenning he's blocked me on twitter, I can't stand his smug, condescending bilge
-
Glendenning is a f***ing arsehole like.
-
This is the time of year I try to get back into football podcasts, listened to Ramble and Football Weekly so far and already remember why I gave them up so quickly last season.
-
I've completely packed in with all of them. Will probably still listen to the Tuesday Club but don't miss the rest really. Might start again when we're not s***, though God knows when that might be.
-
I could barely bring myself to listen to any last season. In defense of Football Weekly: I don't mind Glendenning that much, he's just a troll and I think he sometimes has some valid stuff going against the normal opinion, but god yeah he's annoying a fair bit, albeit with him and Johnathan Wilson (who I actually like a fair bit) bit too much Sunderland talk. Rafael Honigstein, and some of the other contributors are good, I don't think it's as terrible as all that but yes it is quite meh.
I haven't found one I like that much tbh, the Ramble is too matey and 'banter'-y, full of s*** injokes
-
Sid Lowe is amazing, generally like all the podders though.
-
Sid Lowe is a great writer actually, trouble is Spanish Football has got pretty boring, all Barca Real and all the rest in varying degrees of financial distress  (sorry VI)
-
I think the ramble is the only decent one that genuinely makes me lol. I listen to the 606 phone ins sometimes for LULZ
-
Has anybody listened to the True Faith podcast? No fan of the Fanzine but I think the two that do the podcast are pretty sound. Only listened to the last couple and it's alreet.
I've just listened to my first ever, the new one and it's pretty good. They had Michael Martin on and the three of them summed up the summer fairly comprehensively, definitely worth a listen.
-

I love the Ramble.
-
There is an Irish one called [email protected] that is decent enough. They used to have a successful radio show for 3 hours each night but resigned and are now doing pods on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its mostly about the premier league and European football
-
The Spanish Football Podcast is a new one by Sid Lowe and Phil Kitromilides on obviously enough La Liga, only 1 episode of it so far but could be worth keeping an eye on if your interested in Spanish football

Haven't listened to The Ramble for a few years, got a bit tired of their 'bantz' and I don't particularly like Lukey Moore.

I love the Ramble.
Someone in here mentioned it, but there's just too much banter/jokes amongst them that turn me off.
-
Haven't listened to The Ramble for a few years, got a bit tired of their 'bantz' and I don't particularly like Lukey Moore.
I quite like him but I think there's times he tries too hard. I noticed they've got rid of the profile section now, always thought that feature took up too much time of the show.
-
Stopped listening to the Ramble about a year ago now I think. Not that I completely dislike it, just can't be particularly arsed about it especially when we're so s****. I do think there's a pretentiousness and smugness to it that wasn't there when they first started out, particularly from Luke. It's even more apparent if you follow them on Twitter.
Still listen to WFPI mostly in the gym or on the bus, always remains interesting because of Vickery but definitely weakened by Brassell going. The African experts are rubbish, Wheelock is lost outside of MLS or US national team and you can see why Adebayo has the grave shift doing Up All Night. Not a good host IMO. The show was always at its best when it was the Vickery/Brassell combo and they talked enough to stop Dotun's interruptions.
Tuesday Club is still by far the best podcast of the lot but churns out some duff ones more frequently now with the same discussions going round it circles. Wouldn't be surprised if they f***ed it off this year if Arsenal have an underwhelming window and season, with maybe the odd one off episode instead.
-
The Ramble makes me laugh out loud multiple times a week. That's enough for me, especially when we suck.
I find it hard to listen to any podcast that doesn't have Newcastle representation. Too many stereotypes and generic opinions otherwise.

I can't listen to the ones with the African correspondents on at all like. I'd say one of the biggest problems with the show is that a lot of the callers are regulars and they seem more interested just getting on air and making a joke about Dotun eating all the biscuits rather than coming up with decent questions they want answered. There's also a lot of times where Vickery goes of on a tangent when he knows the questions are pretty generic and Dotun tries to reel him in and then proceeds to waste the next few minutes singing and making awkward jokes.
-
The African ones are awful
I got sick of Tuesday Club sometime last season. Its sometimes funny but I just dont care about Arsenal.
-
Andy Brassell leaving was a real blow, not many people with more knowledge about European football around. Vickery is still brilliant when given time to talk.
Agree that the callers have become worse as well. I miss people calling in to ask weird questions that only really obsessed football fans would ask. Remember one guy who was very concerned about what had happend to Rafael Sobis.
-
I really like the Ramble, don't find them pretentious at all. They'll just happily take the p*ss out of anyone, including themselves. It's very refreshing to hear people talking about football in the right way.
-
Really enjoying the Guardian Football Weekly ones currently. Jimbo's very quick and funny as well as usually very knowledgeable guests. Mondays and Thursdays.
-
Aye, I like The Guardian as well. I stopped listening in the relegation season, it was unbearable. It's generally better than The Times I think, although I like Marcotti as well.

Glendenning is a prick mind.
I like it but at times the likes of Richardson come across quite pompous and belittling.
-
Generally enjoy the Times one even if its a bit too focused on the "big sides" but usually find it an interesting listen, plus yeah always enjoy listening to Marcotti. Guardian ones hit and miss, at its best with the likes of Wilson, Auclair and Honigstein

Used to love Richardson back the day on football Italia. Can't stand him now, him and glendenning are both patronising, pompous bell ends imo.

Is there a way of listening to old episodes of the world football phone in podcast?

Is there a way of listening to old episodes of the world football phone in podcast?
Good question, I'd like to know too.
Also, some of us from Uni are doing a weekly podcast now - entitled Kevin Phillips' Piano.....not really sure why! We've only done 2 episodes so it's very VERY rough, with lots of small problems that'll get fixed over time. But, on the other hand, we're using the Cagney & Lacey theme tune.

Interesting stat on the Guardian podcast this week about every team in the league last season having the minority of possession after going in front in a game. Might have some bearing on the whole 'we always sit back' issue.

Interesting stat on the Guardian podcast this week about every team in the league last season having the minority of possession after going in front in a game. Might have some bearing on the whole 'we always sit back' issue.
Among football analytics writers that phenomena is called "score effects", and has its origins in ice hockey analytics.
Basically, all teams tend to change their style of play slightly depending on the scoreline. Teams that are ahead tend to see less of the ball than their opponents, and attempt fewer shots while teams from behind have more of the ball, take more shots (though those shots tend to be more long-distance than other game-states). Even a dominant team will usually see less possession when they are leading than when they are when the game is tied.
Basically, when trying to analysis with stuff like shot attempts or possession you need to separate them depending on the scoreline and then examine them. You'll get the best idea of how good a team is when the score is tied over many games or the full season.
I can't speak for football, but I know in hockey it's not so much a tactical issue on the part of the side that is leading as something inherent - whether due to psychology and risk-aversion or something else. The score effects tend to render non-score-tied possession metrics* mostly useless on a single-game basis.
*since they don't actually measure possession in hockey it's measured by proxy using shot attempts, which syncs up very well to actual possession when somebody has bothered to try to track it.

They didn't say that, it sounds like he did but then he clarifies what he means is that every team's possession reduces after going in front. So it might go from 60% possession to 59% possession.

Oh, if that's right I misunderstood. Guess the effect is similar either way, since your possession is likely to be around 50% anyway.

I believe it's a basic psychology of scoreline-based sports, certainly more than it is a tactical decision. But that's just my feeling really, I don't know much about it.

Is the True Faith Podcast worth a listen? Never been a fan of 'Taylor and Besty' on twitter but heard some good things about it.
-
I don't agree with everything said on there but it is interesting and they often have local journalists on which is good. Although they're podcasts are always really annoyingly quiet I find compared to the other podcasts I listen to.
-
Absolutely love the guardian podcast like, just find it really entertaining. Sometimes skip over stuff I'd like to hear more of, but their crack is right up my street and I learn a bit about foreign leagues that I neglect when they've got their correspondents.

Found it quite funny when they got to our game on this week's and none of them had seen anything from it. The most they could muster was one making a vague point about Ben Arfa being dropped from the team, ironically in the game that he came back in. Enjoy it regularly though.
True Faith one used to be much better when it was just the two of them cracking jokes with each other and stuff like that, a bit more irreverent. Now they're getting journalists and that on it's a bit shitter (TF editor being the worst offender by far, his crack is rank)
-
Aren't Besty and the other lad from B. Auckland?

North Shields or Hebburn-ish, I think they've said on it. I have no reason to doubt their credentials, either way.
-
They had a jingle for "first time Newcastle scored a corner since 2011" on the latest Football Ramble.
Was cracking up when they were going on about Boruc's Cryuff turn.
-
The Times' podcast "The Game" (usually with Marcotti) did a podcast the other week in Newcastle if anyone is interested.
Steve Harper was on with Caulkin and co......

Been getting into World Football Phone-In, good discussions. Their U.S.-correspondent Sean "Big Wheel" Wheelock is a bit of a douche.

Does anyone else find the music that the Guardian use makes them feel suddenly really depressed and alone? It's like being in an art film and the camera just slowly zooming out on your blank, sad face.
-
Emailed a question in to last night's World Football Phone-In and got a reply asking me if I would mind asking it on the show and that they would ring me if that was ok. Shame I'd fallen asleep.

What podcasts are good for European football? My new writing job involves more of it, so I want to immerse myself in Bundesliga, La Liga & Serie A. I already listen to World Football Phone-In and the Guardian's pod with AC Jimbo.
Cheers.
-
Bundesliga Fanatic is definitely the best one out there when it comes to Jorman football.
Sid Lowe does a canny decent La Liga one as well.
-
I listen to Men in Blazers every week, it's not every one's cup of tea and will probably make us Newcastle supporters mad, but its their general banter and coverage of other things that I love. Their humor in general has me creasing throughout.
Happy to have added the Guardian one, will start a listen.
-

Can't those two from what I've seen of them, only heard of them after coming to US.
Listen regularly to Guardian one, and didn't like Footy ramble at first but into it now, especially with Pete's relatable Pardew stance.

Been listening to MiB for a few years, since they were an afterthought on Grantland. Glad to see them doing so well these days, with the show on NBCSN and whatnot.
I regularly listen to World Football Phone-In, 5Live Daily, and 606 Phone-In as well. The Best Soccer Show is a decent shout for MLS/U.S. team coverage, but they can be a bit irritating at times.
-
Guardian football one is excellent, easily my favourite followed by the World Football Phone In. Usually give the Monday Night Club (5Live) and Revista De La Liga ones are listen too as they're decent
Usually listen to Talking Fussball for German football but I'll give the Bundesliga Fanatic one a listen on Tooj's recommendation
-
Love Football Ramble, listen to the Times one too but sometimes it gets a bit too competitive over who knows the most. Will check out the others mentioned in here.
-
Stopped listening to the Ramble about 4 years, not even sure why.
-
It's a damn shame talkshit binned the European football show all them years back, Marcotti, balague, honigstien and Laurens (iirc)
-
Stopped listening to the Ramble about 4 years, not even sure why.
Same as me.
Only one I listen to these days is the Tuesday Club.
-
Tried Men In Blazers but I couldn't get into it. The only ones I listen to now are the Ramble and Second Captains Football.
-
Kanji do you listen to the World Football Phone-In? If so what do you think of Jon Arnold?
Nah haven't honestly. I've been new to sport pods minus MIB. usually do news, stories, self improvement and finance type. Mad given I love sport so much. Should I listen to it? Is he good? Want to add more to my list.
Deuce listens, his thoughts? I'll do more MLS now given we've got a team in jamlando
-
I really like Arnold, he's rather more humble than his predecessor. And he's actually knowledgeable about football in Mexico and Central America.
You should definitely listen to WFPI, Kanj.

Yes, but even if you don't like Arsenal, and i don't, it's a good listen. Alan Davies is funny and knowledgable.
-
I don't listen to MIB for football news or analysis though. Just always loved their general stupid convo and banter. It's funny. They mix a ton of American stuff into it so it's fun
Will add World Football and Guardian too. Thanks fellas!

Some of the insight has been poor recently. The stuff around LVG and Bale especially. They report on a broad segment of football which brings up their lack of knowledge too often.
Enjoy the Guardian's podcast more. They bring in specialists from certain leagues which works better.
-
I quite enjoy the Guardian podcast, but Barry Glendenning really irritates me. Same with that Paul Sarahs on WFPI.
-
I quite like Glendenning, he's good on TalkSport as well.

Seems to talk a lot of sense about them and us IMO. Not sure why the hate.
-
I quite like him, seems a good chap.
-
Any up to date Newcastle podcasts that aren't apologist in nature? Explicit and angry if possible? I like shiteseats but they're quite infrequent.
-
Yeah, I don't mind Glendenning. He seems like he'd be good crack over a pint and whenever he talks about us/Sunderland he's pretty much always taking the p*ss.
I think Paul Sarahs on the WFPI is a really intelligent guy but he does come across quite arrogant at times, Dotun annoys me though the way he goes on.
-
Love it when Dotun does his Nigerian bit. Has me creased every single time.
-
Yeah Dotun's mint, does well to keep things running smoothly.
-
I like Newcastle stuff on the Ramble because Pete's one of few in the 'media' that totally gets it re Pardew. (f***ing hates him)

I like Pete and appreciate his stance but I struggle to listen to bits about us on the Ramble when we've been s***, which is often. Usually end up just skipping through discussion of our matches.

Basically expresses his hatred for Carver, bats off any suggestion that it wasn't good Pardew left. Slags Ashley.

Sarahs is pretty well informed, but he just sounds like he'd be unbearable in real life. And he tries to pronounce foreign players names 'properly'
Dotun's a lot better these days, doesn't witter on as much as he used to.

Listening now on iTunes. Good listen so far.
-
just listening to it, really enjoying it, between all the pint pots rattling
Haha that was the aim really. Wanted an authentic 'blokes in a pub talking about football' theme.
-
This has just started and if you're in into your Jorman football I'd highly recommend it. Not your typical weekly review style, but goes more in-depth around current topics.

New "emergency" Tuesday Club released, should be worth a listen.

Just started one called "The Offensive" on the same network as the Football Ramble. Into the 2nd episode now and it seems to be essentially The Thick of It but set in a fictional Premier League club.
Some nice digs in at Ashley already lol

Thanks for this. Really enjoying it. One of the writers must be a Newcastle fan

Can highly recommend today's 5Live's Football Daily. Behind the scenes special on Bielsa and what he's done at Leeds so far. Fascinating character, didn't know much about him before this season.
Also includes a segment from Rob Price who's worked under both Bielsa and wor Rafa.
-
Another recommendation; just listened to the True Faith podcast from 22nd January - interview with Simon Smith (goalie coach). Brilliant listen; fantastic Bobby and Rafa stories. Doesn't matter that it's over six weeks old.

Can second this. Mates with someone he used to coach and he's supposed to be a really top bloke n all.

There's been some class little digs at Ashley throughout it.
Loving the constant footballer based puns too.

Some interesting stories on the new Stan Collymore podcast.

Listening to Carragher's one right now. Really insightful stuff.

I just got a shout out on Set Piece Menu.

Didn’t know Liverpool only lost 2 games in their near Title win under Rafa Benitez.

Is the Tifo podcast any good?
-
John Beresford interview on Undr the cosh is canny like. Quite like is as a podcast, basically just anecdotes. Almost like a talk in as a podcast. Hosted by Jon Parkin and ex mackem pornstar Chris Brown.

Top Flight Time Machine any good?

If you know Norwegian, "PL-kvarteret" by Lars Sivertsen (https://open.spotify.com/show/2FOMXVHVsxZbtISpNFW04c) is a fantastic one.

Anyone else going to see Football Ramble Live in town tomorrow night?
-
Caulkin on the TF pod today.
-
There's a 'Price of Football' podcast that I've just discovered.
Episode 2 is all about us and Ashley. Just started. Nervous it's gonna be a load of w***.
-
Few minutes in, always love listening to non-Newcastle fans explain Newcastle fans' opinion of Ashley. Especially great when they're really confident and so matter-of-fact about it.
-
Right, no. Managed five minutes. Off with that.
-
What were they saying?
-
Well I turned it off when the bloke said Keegan fell out with Ashley purely cos the budget constraints were too tight and he wanted flair players and 4-3s every week. But there had already been a couple of ill-informed assumptions prior to that; eg the fans started to dislike Ashley when we started losing football matches. Also said we were in debt cos of the players we bought, which is partly true but not when you're citing Ginola and Asprilla as examples. Just nah. No ta.
-
Gone back to it and it has improved, but "Mike Ashley has a very very thick skin."
-
Ginola
-
@Yorkie all owa the airwaves with superbly put together points.

Subbed up to Second Captains as I wanted to listen to some of the politics podcasts they've done in the past, I think it's the best football podcast there is as well. I could listen to Ken Early read the phone book.

He’s class, some of the comparisons he pulls out are ridiculous
Edit: also his political pods and Richie Sadliers players chair are nice additions to the world service.
-
Ken Early is one of my favourite people. Their radio show back years ago was even better than the podcasts
-
Will give that a try, cheers for the recommendation.
-
Will give that a try, cheers for the recommendation.
I think you'll like it, the Monday football podcast (the only one you get for free unless you're into f***ing hurling or Gaelic football or something) hits a really nice mix of discussing what happened in the big games over the weekend and also often a Set Piece Menu type 'big picture' discussion, usually with a guest and they generally get the cream of the crop on - Rory Smith, Jonathan Wilson, Miguel Delaney etc.
-
Aye, it’s good even when they're banging on about some Irish c*** you’ve never heard of. Ken Early is class. He and Rory Smith are probably the two most erudite journalists on football without being dull, OTT or unrealistic.
-
The name rings a bell, feel like I might have heard Ken Early on something else recentlyish, maybe a Guardian Football Weekly or something like that, and thinking he was great.
-
Sorry, just the usual, but the latest Set Piece Menu was a fascinating chat. Focused mainly on the MLS but the discussion branched out into all sorts. Really recommend a listen.
-
Fans of Serie A nostalgia should listen to Graham Hunter's recent two parter with Sven Goran Eriksson. In fact I'd say it's a must listen if you're a fan of that era. He's great is Sven. More talent in his little fingernail than in the entirety of our chump in our dugout.
-
Always thought he got a raw deal as England manager tbh. I know it was our so-called ‘Golden era’ but the likes of Brazil & Portugal in particular were also class around that time. We’d have probably won the World Cup if Ronaldinho hadn’t fluked that free-kick for instance.
-
I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but I massively recommend the recent Quickly Kevin podcast with Clive Tyldesley. He's got some fascinating stories and he's genuinely a funny guy. Skip to about nine minutes to avoid the hosts' tedious cackling over moderately amusing matters and get straight to the interview.
-
Was a good listen
-
Really not a fan of the new Ramble format.
-
I completely agree. Been meaning to dig this thread out and say the same thing.
-
Aye I agree, Shame coz it was my fav podcast
-
Aye, the ramble has gone to s***. Best thing about it was the fact that they've done it for years together and as such it seemed effortless, was just four mates chatting about football. Now it seems forced, the patter is terrible and not in a good way. No need to have it every day too, content seems stretched. Think I might bin it off unless it goes back to just the four of them again.
-
I'd swap in Vish for Jim to the original line up. Agree though
-
Not enough Marcus. He's the glue. Kate doesn't seem like a natural 'host' and her bants are dismal.
-
I like it. Wish they’d do 1 show a week with the original lot though.
-
Really not a fan of the new Ramble format.
I just unsubscribed. Nothing particularly against the new people but the whole brand of the Ramble, and reason I listened, was the rapport between the four of them. Not really interested in the others, if I was interested in diff people I'd just try out some other podcasts. Also yeah, just too many episodes, I'm not keeping up with that.
-
f***ed it off 2-3 years ago, became far too self aware and spread themselves far too thin.
-
What the f*** is that "Topics" s*** they've been doing lately? Who thought that was a good idea?
I've got about 10 other football podcasts vying for my time but I know what I'd love to hear, ten minutes' worth of dreadful patter about which Premier League manager should start wearing a funny hat.
-
f***ed it off 2-3 years ago, became far too self aware and spread themselves far too thin.
Yeap, soon as they expanded then I went off it.
-
Luke went right up his own arse a few years back.
-

Pretty much my feelings. I’ll stay subscribed and dip in and out.
-
Ramble hasn't been on my huge list of football podcasts for years. I didn't like them, Pete annoys me and Luke seems like a t***.
-
Met them a few times (original cast) and had drinks with them (in London) are they are very good craic but guessing when you become a media company then it's not the same.
-
Wew, just checked out the subreddit, the Ramble diehards are not happy.
-
Same as Disco, stopped listening a couple of years back. Luke was always relentlessly annoying for as long as I listened and Jim is fine as a straight man but boring as all hell if the other 'entertaining' ones aren't actually entertaining so when Pete's schtick got old as well there wasn't much worth listening out for, especially when there started being more and more drops to try and keep up with.
If a few of us on here had somewhat similar feelings I guess it's not a surprise they've tried to shake it up but it sounds like it's come at the expense of losing even more of what made the show so good; that it was just four mates having a chat.
-
Ramble hasn't been on my huge list of football podcasts for years. I didn't like them, Pete annoys me and Luke seems like a t***.
Is Pete the one who also does the Wrestle Me podcast? If so I quite like him.

Aye.
I like them all. Shame they’ve split themselves up
-
Thought Pete's film club during lockdown was great mind but felt like they wanted to get rid of it at the first opportunity. Marcus is the key though as others mentioned
-
See Caulkin is guest on the lastest True Faith podcast. Think I'll leave that 'delight' until I'm out walking the dogs later. That way I can swear away without wor lass giving us grief.
-
It's not that bad actually.

Cancelled my Patreon for them last week. Not as a reaction to the new format but all the talk did spur me on to do it a bit. I find I'm not listening to stuff as regularly this year with the lack of commuting. Then with a daily schedule it's not exactly something you can save up and binge on a long journey.
I don't mind the new cast at all and if I had the time I'd probably listen as much if not more than usual and still enjoy it but I have to agree with pretty much everyone saying they've missed a trick by not having the original 4 on together at least once a week.
Also, not a fan of them splitting out OTC onto it's own feed but then filling that feed up with s****. OTC should just be it's own separate thing again.
-
If you're a fan of the heavily saturated weekend recap genre, the Second Captains Monday release (which is free) is by far the best one. Today's episode is marvellous and not just because it contains a hilarious anecdote about Neil Warnock. Today's Ramble on the other hand was entirely void of anything interesting or insightful whatsoever.
-
Ken is always at his best when he's just read some random autobiography or biography. That anecdote might be one of the most disgusting things I've heard
-
The Football Ramble is so much better with the rotating line up. Less Luke but also Vish, Kate, Andy & Jules ball bring something different. Really enjoying it, it's really brought it to life and random combinations create something different. Vish is savagely funny, no messing just nails his point home. Pete & Vish or Pete &, Andy is always a great episode

Would agree, comes out earlier than FW which is extremely handy too.
It’s a shame Andy Brassell ended up on the Ramble bandwagon and not FW or Totally. One of very few I’m genuinely go to to hear opinions from.

Ken’s disdain of Frank Lampard is worth the subscription alone.

Had to chase up On the Continent because the Ramble keep f***ing around. Can't believe Dotun Adebayo is now the host - love him on World Football Phone-In but he's hardly there for his footballing knowledge.

Anyone on OTC is just there to fill in for a few seconds while Brassell takes a breath in between monologues
It's not the same without Horncastle but Nicky Bandini fills in well enough on the Italian stuff.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is the guest on this weeks Football Ramble meets
Really wanted him to be great for us. I remember him being brilliant in that preseason tournament then Shearer got injured and didn’t really happen for him

Yeah - he was class playing behind Shearer pre-season then was moved up top!
I wonder how his time would have panned out if he had of scored that one on one 30 seconds into his debut after Tino's delightful back-heel?!
-
Think it’s good still to be honest - Vish and jules are good additions- Kate not so.
They have partly done it to keep up with all the football -though do agree that maybe Monday / Friday should be the original 4- and Marcus is the key
-
Andy good knowledge also-
Even at times it seems more average now it’s still above the opposition in my opinion
-
I don’t dislike any of them, for me it’s just not the same anymore so I dip in and out rather than listen to every show
-
I've completely stopped listening now. I listened pretty much every episode til the summer. Dropped to the odd one at the beginning of the season and now never go looking for it. As I said nothing against the new'ns but the Ramble's whole USP was the dynamic of the group. With that gone I'll just stick to the Totally show.
-
I like Luke's Game so I only listen to that. I don't even listen to the episode, just that.

f***ing looooooaaads of ads on the Ramble these days.
I used to listen to podcasts on my commute every day but since that isn't a thing any more I just listen every now and again if I have to drive somewhere.
Chucked one on this morning in the car and I was pretty much where I was going before the episode even started.

Happy Christmas N-O, here's 2 and a half hours of nails on a black board.

Stumbled Across 'Football Travel by Outside Write' over the weekend, bit different from the usual but has some interesting stuff on it.
-
Made the mistake of listening to a full episode of Football Ramble again today.
Used to love the show, now it's unbearable. Last few months only been skipping ahead the Friday shows for Luke's Game, but listened to the whole thing earlier.
Spent two minutes on some bollocks joke about Louis Theraux I didn't understand the point of, another few minutes of unimportance about Arsenal's new ceo, what with all the ads at the start and middle, skip the cleverly disguised Betway ad section, Pete's horrible jingles - Luke's Game is the only thing holding that Franchise together now.
Used to enjoy the old show, Going for GLOLd!
-
@Yorkie, thank you for making SPM part of my weekly podcast schedule.

 It's perfect and Rory Smith is the man. Agreed entirely with the email a couple weeks back which said it's the best item of football content out there. Without sounding like a dick I'm still so buzzing that I've had a couple of emails read out on it.

Yeah it’s definitely not what it was - I didn’t mind it to begin with as seemed fresh with the new people ( all of whom are decent in their own right )
But now it’s lost its USP!
Kate as host instantly makes me want to turn it off, she isn’t even a bad host per se but just doesn’t fit the show at all— it seems aswel what they used to take the p*ss out off they are now themselves - riddled with adverts , jokes dragging on for weeks that are not funny ( think they purposely laugh more at Kate etc to make them feel comfortable which is fine but it’s a cringe listen most of the time )
Vish and Pete now seem bored- Andy is very knowledgeable and a good guy but doesn’t fit the show either...
But of a shame and can’t really knock them for cashing in especially if it keeps things going in these times,
Hope post covid ( next season ) they go back to the original 4 on Mondays / Fridays- ( even a mix the other days won’t really matter just would be nice for that consistency and standard for the 4 on them days ) will keep giving it a chance until then- still really hits the note when Marcus Jim and Luke are on- Marcus is superb host in his own right and perfect for this
-
Vish was in the year above me at uni, really sound guy and I’ve read a number of his articles (mainly on cricket) and they’ve always been really well written. Never listened to football ramble before though, is Vish decent on that?

He started great , very dry and funny guy, seems to have lost his way a bit - maybe due to the rotation of hosts so he can’t find his feet / consistency
-
Fair play, hope if that doesn’t work out he finds another vehicle. I’ve heard him on Test Match Special during lunch breaks and I’ve often thought he must be getting closer to a big gig
-
He's good on the Ramble got a great sense of humour. I still struggle with Luke. Just butts into others talking.

Agree with this. I still like it, it's easy listening when going for a walk or something but yeah it's not got the same spark. And like you, I don't blame them.
Be nice to have the original 4 on a couple of times a week though.
-
Everyone is speaking very well talking about NUST tonight
-
Been listening to Scouted football podcast. Covers a wide variety of clubs and leagues. Just found out the lad who does it is a Newcastle fan too.
-
Has anyone any thoughts on the podcast Pod on the Tyne?
I initially liked it (mainly I think because it was the only Newcastle only footy podcast I'd listened to) but I'm now increasingly finding it tedious and even slightly annoying.
-
I prefer to listen to George Caulkin in places where he's not subjected to the witty banter of Taylor Payne or made to read out lengthy adverts for pube trimmers.
-

 Indeed, the amount of adverts is maybe what annoys me the most. Payne's forced joviality (I'm convinced they all hate each other). The recent quizes smack of time filling.
A bit like Newcastle at the minute it's slapdash and unconvincing.
-
It's crap.
-
Aye, I switched it off halfway through last night. As bad as it’s gotten.
-
The Taylor and besty podcast was great a few years back so I don’t mind Taylor. I don’t really listen to pod on the Tyne tho.
-
Enjoyed hearing Aaron Hughes on, would like to hear from some more players like him - but aye, generally found boring/annoying and stopped listening
-
Don’t know what feedback they’re getting but the quizzes are s*** and will never detract from the subject matter of nufc at present being by its very nature depressing. We need to inject positivity! Ner.
-
Never listened to a NUFC podcast because I've spent every waking hour trying to forget them for years.
-
Enjoyed hearing Aaron Hughes on, would like to hear from some more players like him - but aye, generally found boring/annoying and stopped listening
Are you on about the Aaron Hughes one from a long while ago (that was excellent), or has he been on again?
There's been some good episodes and some good discussions. We've covered it a lot in the other journalism thread but it's a really frustrating podcast; it needn't be as s*** as it is. The tone of it is so needlessly childish. On the rare occasions Taylor isn't trying to crack some dismal joke, he's perfectly fine to listen to and his views pretty much align with most of ours', as far as I can tell.
-
It’s very try hard and weirdly compared to the rest of Athletic output seems to be anti intellectual / football minutae.

It was last spring or summer, or at least that's when I listened to it.
Really enjoyed hearing from a player like that who spent a good while at the club from young but was always a quiet one - then was moved on unnecessarily imo.

Really good listen this. Covers a lot of stuff including scoring in the derby, coming back from injury, what Ben Arfa and sissoko were like, Colo’s party and carroll smacking Steven Taylor

Great listen, basically confirmed the Llambias Pardew rumours. Interesting to hear him speak so highly of Pardew and even Mike Ashley being capable of decency.
Taylor comes across so down to earth , seems a great fella.
-
Will definitely give that a listen but I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks highly of Pardew. Not that I disliked Raylor - I think he made a really worthwhile contribution on the pitch in his time here, particularly in the Championship and then in 11/12 - but you could tell he was a favourite of Pards'. He was still playing fairly consistently despite terrible injuries and not being that great a player in the first place.

Possible spoiler but he does. He says pardew never left him out of things when he was injured and when he made his comeback in the cup v Man City he was last player back to the dressing room and pardew had got the whole squad to go mental and sing his chant when he got back to the dressing room. I suppose that’d mean a lot to him

Hmm not sure I want to hear human decency stories of Pardew
-
Was a good listen and seems like a great bloke. Speaks very highly of Jonas and Colo too
-
Basically said Bruce was a good man manager but didn't have a clue tactically as well

Price of Football podcast has an exclusive with Nick de Marco. No mention of us in the blurb, mind.
Edit: 45 minutes in.

Watched the Undr the cosh podcast with Andy Woodman on youtube last night, really good, now waiting for part 2 as that should cover more NUFC, the first part has covered his playing career but mentioned Pardew nutting Meyler and also Pardew in charge of the trips, mainly to Tenerife with Palace.
-
Listened to the True Faith Pod a couple of times now. Interesting enough listen. Hard to say I've enjoyed them, as everything NUFC related is depressing ATM.
Charlotte spent the first half an hour of last night's one just talking for ages, without actually saying anything. Was pretty annoying. But she redeemed herself with her criticism of Shelvey.

Yeah I find Charlotte sometimes talks but she doesn't really put across any points if that makes sense? Just sort of takes others and reiterates them.
I enjoy the true faith podcasts but that is probably because I share their miserable outlook atm. Actually annoys me when they try and find a positive

Aye I listened to that, thought Woodman came across quite well (constantly referring to how s*** he was as a player) and the story about Dani Osvaldo kicking him in the bollocks was canny funny.
Looking forwards to part 2, as you say, hopefully more Pards stories.

I dipped into Football Ramble today for first time in months. Found myself pretty irritated the way they were howling at the madness of Souness talking about ex-pros being refs. Fair enough the idea has a load of drawbacks, but it's been talked about for years and they were acting as if Souness was going off on a mad one.

Only tune in for the last 15mins on Friday for the game, and that’s getting too easy.

Really good listen this. Covers a lot of stuff including scoring in the derby, coming back from injury, what Ben Arfa and sissoko were like, Colo’s party and carroll smacking Steven Taylor
I'm about 50 minutes into this and it's been brilliant so far.
I know everyone is different with their personality, memory of things etc. But what really stood out was a lot of the little details he remembered vividly and I think his love for the place and the club really shines through.
He had some very slight digs about the fans getting on the players when they don't perform. But perhaps we are worse than other fans in that regard?

Watched part 2 earlier today, the story about how they all got 8 year contracts is absolutely insane. Funny at the end aswell when they all got payouts apart from Woodman
