Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh. Now, this is a hard choice. It is the wife's birthday on the 20th. When asked if she would like to spend her birthday in Newcastle the response was not the one I had hoped for, but nevertheless it was the one I expected. I need to do something special to get this one happening and make my NOFC debut.

Well that counts her well and truly in then. Can't see her going for it though, need a plan of action!!

I'm thinking take her to the theatre during the week to butter her up. It's looking like I'll have to make the debut in the Red/Blue fixture on the 6th, but don't count me out just yet, I may just stroll into view on the horizon. Look out for a tall round shaped individual with a southern accent.

See the football forum for the Red/Blue game discussion - this thread is for registering your interest in playing against Preston on Sat 20th. Further NOFC games will be made available (such as Barnsley) in due course.
I imagine that we wouldn't play a Reds vs Blues match on the same weekend as a confirmed NOFC match but its proving a bit difficult finding an upcoming Saturday home match. Potential for the weekend of Cardiff (if they aren't bringing an IFA team) but this will be discussed in the Red/Blue thread in Football.

From the Peterborough game there's Nick, Bowlingcrofty, Pilko and Burnip yet to register interest here. I'm fairly confident the first two will be in cos i spoke to Nick a while back regarding this date (originally Red/Blue) and he said they'd be available. Will Burnip be in the US?

Pilko - sort your s*** arseface.

NSG says he and Bowlingcrofty are as good as confirmed. Stick em on the list.

Looking really, really promising this - can't come soon enough. We've got near everyone from the Peterborough game which, in all fairness, was a really decent performance where everyone seemed to click reasonably well - both in the 4-5-1 and the 4-4-2.

Bit premature thinking up line-ups right now - cos numbers are bound to change a little bit - but this was the 4-4-2 in that second half vs Peterborough:

                       NSG

Yorkie --- Crofty --- Nut --- Kezman

  Cunny --- Stu --- Rocker --- Slim

         KenDahl --- Venkman*

*Burnip was up there n'all for most of the game but like i say, will he be in the States when this is being played?

Which worked well, but baring in mind we had them pegged back for that entire half - so the slow defense (aside from Chris) didn't really get shown up like it possibly could have done. What's nice though is that we've actually got a few really solid defensive options - Crofty, Nick and Venkman were our best players at centre-back for large parts of the game so we can pick and choose there. I'd say our full-backs are well covered n'all... Cunny, Slim, Kezman and I have all played there at some point over the matches and done alright at the very least.

So aye... just Pilko and Burnip missing from the last game, but there's mini-Kezman and Ste coming in to keep us well up to scratch as far as numbers go.

Looking good lads. Be good to get a couple more just for safesies like.

You should definitely continue to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of potential players who may or may not be available to play in a formation that we may or may not be using on the day of a match, which is still to be confirmed.

Don't be such a t***, it's worth having a look at our options. It's good to get the opinions of other people who've played in these games before too, as they know just as well as we do what worked and what didn't.

Oh, how the worm has turned...

Absolutely not. I want us to do well and if there's hundreds of us there, it'll be a cluttered team full of subs with no cohesion like it was last time, and we'll get humped again. I wouldn't say it's a poor attitude at all tbh, i want us to win cos there's a good bunch of people and some really decent footy players... but it's a week away and still we're without an actual eleven. I feel a bit ngyeurgh coming up just for us to get humped cos no one picked a team. Conversely, if someone does sort a team, the best players need to be playing - and there's no way i'm one of the best eleven from those who've declared themselves available, so i'd feel a tad guilty sneaking a place infront of someone of a better standard.

Aye - i'd still agree with that tbh. But it's good to have numbers now cos games in the past have suggested there'll be a couple of people who can't make it on the day. That was a week before the match. Most important thing is that someone picks our best eleven, really.

I've sent PMs to everyone - can everyone please get back to me ASAP if they can't make it, so that we can scout for some more players with time to spare.

Rolling subs so I imagine everyone will get a decent amount of game time. While we'd like to win, there's no point asking 14 people to show up if you only give the subs 5-10minutes at the end of a match.

Available player list updated in OP - if anyone sees BowlingCrofty online or IRL can they get him to send me his mobile/check he's still available please.

PNE have confirmed their team.

Also, if you have a match ball can you please bring it, the more balls we have, the merrier O0

There are changing room facilities available and PNE would like to go for a post-match pint before heading to town for the match. There is a pub just on the roundabout by Blakelaw, so a swift drink should be on the cards for everyone to show our thanks to the opposition...(and the supporters?)

EDIT: The Crofter's Lodge if I'm not mistaken

Matt 'Chris Hughton' Lishman was left with a tactical decision to make ahead of Saturdays game with Preston Supporters Club. Late last night Jack Venkman held emergency talks with his manager over his sudden withdrawl from the match day squad, with Lishman admitting he's not entirely sure what to do.

"I'm a bit of a virgin really...and I've not got much managerial experience either." The uncertainty in the teens voice was clear, as he gathered to the assembled media before the weekend's crunch tie with Preston Supporters team.

"It's a blow but I've high hopes for Crouchie.. I mean Ash17, as for Wullie, I'm not interested in him, those rumours are wide of the mark, I don't want Journeymen." Added the bespectacled tinkerman with a glint in his eye."

Lishman isn't ruling out deadline day transfer activity though; "I'm in the market for a Centre back, a left back, and some new glasses."

And with many expecting big things from tricky winger Gorilla 'The Thrilla' his manager is in no doubt of his abilities, "Gorilla's always been an ultra-dependable. He's a big player for us. People have asked me 'Have i considered resting him?' Well the answer is no because he's a huge player for us."

Meanwhile the News Of The World is reporting a potential bust up with Italian defender Kristiano 'Kezman' Heneage after photos of him and Lishman's love interest appeared on the back pages, the Italian has declined to comment.

I've said it a couple of times but my mate is coming to watch anyway and he's pretty good so you can add him to the list as being definitely available. Can play anywhere in the back four, DM and is a decent GK too.

Will do, what's his name?
Used to be on here, his username was Duff100

Yorkshiremen left rocked, as the Doctor Jacks it in. By Craig Huupe.

Couple of late changes, ref is now Les Moulds and Blakelaw have double booked the 3G with an NFA league match, so we're on one of the grass pitches. They're all quite firm due to the frost, so you should be fine with the same footwear.

8-0 in the end but was a lot closer than that. Think it was only 3 or 4 with ten minutes to go then tiredness kicked in and they picked us off. 4 of their goals were genuine quality, 1 didn't cross the line and we had an indirect free-kick given in the box when it was meant to be a penalty! Considering the conditions and how long they've played together I thought we did well.

jesus, was expecting us to win

Don't underestimate some of these IFA teams. I've played against QPR, Watford, Bury, Fulham, Hull, Millwall and many others. They play lots of games and do take it seriously, even some of the non-league teams are a bit tasty. The N-O team is only just starting and it will take a while to get up to speed. You (hopefully we) need to play games more often if  there is to be some progression. Getting some away games in would be a good idea.

I've been on the end of some right hammerings playing for HRBFC Supporters team "Beavers FC". We got dicked 10-0 by Millwall in our second ever game. QPR smashed us 12-0 and we have let in 8 on at least 4 other occasions. Maybe playing against some smaller teams could be a good idea, maybe Blue Square Premier teams up to play Gateshead?? They've got Stevenage (20th March -  we have Bristol City away), Cambridge (3rd April - Posh away), Kidderminster (10th April - Blackpool home) and AFC Wimbledon (24th April - Ipswich home). I know all four of them play IFA games and will more than likely be able to raise a team as everyone loves a night out in the toon.

I've played Kiddy and Womblescum and neither are fantastic teams, they are ok but can be beaten. Also if we can get enough players together for the QPR away game on the last day of the season (hopefully to watch us pick up the championship trophy). I'd be happy to arange a game against Beavers. Pretty sure I could get on the main pitch at Beveree with full use of the changing rooms and bar. Obviously the QPR game is a 1pm Sunday kick off which makes it more tricky but could do it on the saturday or the sunday evening depending on peoples travel plans.

They were much more organised than us but I think we have potential, to be only 4 down with 10 to go against the cup champions or whatever it is they won is quite an effort on our part. When you think that at 10.15am, kick off time, we had about 6 lads in the changing room and the Preston lads had been there since 9am clearing the pitch is quite a contrast.

One of the lads from Preston that PM and I spoke to was saying the chairman rings them before most games, has a bit craic on and asks how they get on. Their scores get read out over the PA at half time in their home games and they've got a feature in the matchday programme. What I'm saying is, the Preston lads are the pinnacle of this sort of thing and we gave them a very good game for 75 minutes, then a mixture of fitness and enforced changes put a bit of gloss on the scoreline for them. I played s**** and spent most of the game slipping over, embarassing at times how long it was taking me to turn but honestly, it was the grip  I'm genuinely not that s****.

Was good to see people again and meet some for the first time, shame we couldn't go for a pint afterwards but the delayed kick off left people a bit short of time - and we also managed to lose the Preston boys after the game which was a shame. Cheers to Stu and Yorkie for organising things, and Stu's mate for the lift home, I appreciate it.

They had a photographer with them so I imagine the team photo of us looking shagged will end up on the net somewhere - the guy I spoke to from Preston said they'd send things over to NUFC's media department to try and get the NOFC noticed within the club, but I doubt our lot will give two s***s.

Fair assessment.

I was f***ed after about 10mins but a few more games and I reckon I'd improve a hell of a lot. First time I've played 11a-side since first year of uni. Good craic though, just lacked a bit of nouse at the key times i reckon but that will come with games and getting to know each others games better.

Fantastic effort from our lads today, very well played to everyone. I can't fault anyone that came along for us and i'm glad to see that no one has posted any 'player ratings'; as that wouldn't really be fair given the circumstances. We were on a muddy pitch and with the majority of us only bringing trainers (having expected a 3G pitch; there was a double-booking unfortunately, none of our lads' fault at all), we did extremely well, but for a late capitulation. The Preston lads were a pleasant bunch with some good players and we matched them for the majority of the game. Most of their goals came in the last fifteen minutes after the pitch had become unplayable, so everyone deserves credit for giving the league/cup champions an excellent match.

Good stuff lads. Disappointing, flattering result but some promising stuff. Roll on Barnsley. :)

I actually can't walk properly or drive, my knee is three times it's normal size. It was pretty scary when it first happened and I could actually see it swelling because it was happening that fast.

Had a decent time though, decent criac. Shame about the result.

Never seen anything balloon as quickly as your knee did yesterday mate, was shocking!

Our manager out running before the game.

I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable games I have been involved in whilst playing for the PNE fans team, everyone made us feel very welcome and the game was played in the right spirit on a pitch where it could easily have been very different. Sliding around in astroturf shoes was great fun :)

Title: NOFC PR
Post by: Rocker on Tuesday 23 February 2010, 01:10:27 PM
Just appealed to the club again for kits.

Never going to happen, but f*** it, I was bored.

Hello,

My name is John Watson, I am club captain and co-founder of Newcastle-Online Football Club. Our club competes in the IFA ( Internet football association).
http://www.internetfootball.org.uk/

The league is made up of a total of 78 clubs, all competing, whenever we can, against each other.

NOFC has only been in operation for around four months now,and it that time we've hosted our own home games against Peterborough and most recently against Preston North End.

The league is taken very seriously, and although it is all in the aid of creating bonds with fellow clubs, we are trying to establish NOFC as a top team, like our professional counterparts.

The main objective of my contact is to ask if Newcastle United FC could spare any kit for our team to wear. The majority of clubs in the IFA have their kit donated by their hometown clubs, and we're appealing if our club could do the same. Any size or quality would be beneficial as at the minute we're all wearing new and old NUFC kits which takes the edge of our club.

Match worn, old and unused shirts and shorts would be a great help and would be much appreciated by everyone.

Here is a write up of our recent game on the official PNE website.

http://www.pnefc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10362~1973320,00.html

I would be very grateful for a reply, regardless of the outcome,

Yours sincerely,

John Watson

f***s sake, why would I lie about something like that.  I'd just have told you couldn't make it.  In the RED V Blue N-O game I had trapped a nerve, I suffer from Sciatica as I was in a car crash a few years ago and basically crushed a disc.  I knackered my shoulder playing football when I was 21, went over and a big lad landed on me with my arm under my body and you'll always do it again as there is now basically only the muscles holding it in place.  I'm get some tests done soon when the swelling goes down and may undergo an arthoscopy to see if there is anything they can do to prvent it happening again.

I'll put a f***ing pic up later, but honestly...

PS: Gorilla - don't worry about the no-show, as far as I'm concerned we had enough players (14) and you've been 'punished' for not turning up by receiving a strike against your name.

I'm happy to move on, so should the rest of you - particularly the ones who weren't even at the game  (yeah, I'm looking at you Yankee)

Alright chaps, all efforts to get this publicised and hopefully some sort of link with the club, no matter how tenuous, are appreciated.

However, just so that we don't come across as a group of lads trying to score some free kit off the club (or a bunch of disorganised supporters sending out mixed messages  [/NUST]), can you leave a message in here once you've contacted the club/media/member of staff/etc just so that we're not sending differing signals.

It would be good to get some publicity and some more fans involved, particularly away supporters as P'boro would like to play us on April 3rd.
