Title: Austria Training Camp
Post by: Mr Logic on Tuesday 3 July 2007, 10:27:17 AM
So they fly out today, apparently to THIS PLACE (http://www.balance-resort.at/main.php?&l=en&sub1=1).

Got it's own golf course, spa etc., as you might expect. Sam want's the mobile phones switched off and I'm assuming that's on a kind of 9 to 5 basis, a blanket 24hr ban would surely be broken inside 24 hrs.

Anyone live near there? Or are all our updates going to come via Anal's infertile imagination.

Wonder if any of the squad will test Joey's sense of humour.

Supposed to be all about conditioning, seems there is no training pitch there but plenty of other sports activities. Probably won't be a football in sight. Conditioning is pre-stamina work isn't it?

Would love to be there myself if only to find out how the new gaffer goes about everything. They should do a documentary on it, they'd sell loads of DVD's I bet.

Anyway, any news about that trip can go in here.

The United manager will head to Austria this morning to start work in earnest at a behind-closed-doors training camp following a brief get-together at the club’s base in Benton.

Allardyce, who met several members of his first-team squad for the first time during yesterday’s gathering, will spend the next seven days forging relationships and outlining his plans for the club’s future.

And having stressed that all his senior players will start with a clean slate under his reign, the former Bolton boss has told his team to seize the opportunities he will give them.

“Whatever happened last year has gone,” insisted Allardyce
, who will demand full focus from his players after warning that there can be no distractions if Newcastle are to make a productive start to a new era in North-East sport.T

“It was last year and it has been forgotten, whether it was good, bad or indifferent. It doesn’t matter. It’s a new era and a new start for me and for them.

“I hope that they can show me how good they are and we can start forging a new relationship to help Newcastle United do better next season than in the previous ones.”

From the Journal today and exactly what I want to hear. While Luque might be beyond recovery, I really hope Zoggy and Martins can benefit from Allardyce's lead

can't i put pix on newcastle-online.com??

use the imageshack link.

Then, when you upload a picture, you'll get an address for the photo, which will end in .jpg or whatever type of picture file it is.

Then post the address on here between:

(img) (/img) using square brackets [] instead of ()

That will make the photos appear.

Sam Says: Make Most Of New Start

By Craig Hope

SAM Allardyce and his Newcastle United squad travel to Austria on Tuesday with the Magpies manager urging his players to seize the opportunity of a fresh start under a new regime.

The black and whites head to Austria for a behind-closed-doors training camp to begin pre-season preparations before their first friendly at Hartlepool on July 17.

And the Toon boss has told his men to make the most of the new start as they embark on a seven-day period of fitness work and team bonding in the town of Stegersbach in the east of the country.

Big Sam said: "Whatever happened last year has gone.

"It was last year and it has been forgotten, whether it was good, bad or indifferent. It doesn't matter. It's a new era and a new start for me and for them.

"I hope that they can show me how good they are and we can start forging a new relationship to help Newcastle United do better next season than in the previous ones."

The United gaffer travels without first-team trio James Milner, Steven Taylor and Tim Krul, all of whom have been allowed extra time to rest after representing their countries at this summer's Under-21 European Championships.

Mark Viduka and David Edgar are away on international duty with Australia and Canada respectively, while Damien Duff (ankle) remains a long-term injury casualty.

But the former Bolton boss is looking forward to getting down to work with his players, as new signings Joey Barton and David Rozehnal also link up with their new team-mates for the first time.

"We will have a week of conditioning work, but more importantly we have a week getting to know each other," added Allardyce.

"All the mobile phones will be switched off for a week so there will be no distractions because the most important thing is that we spend the week getting to know each other.

"We will be totally focused on attempting to build for a new season and trying to get everyone to buy into new ideas. We will be providing as much information as we can in order to get people fit and mentally tuned in for August 11.

"The difficulty so far has been that there have been very few people on the football side around because people have a short window to take the holidays needed to recharge their batteries.

"First and foremost, I need to speak to everyone on the football front. That is something I will have a chance to do in Austria and I'm looking forward to getting out there and starting the job in earnest."

No idea if this has already been posted. Sounds good.

As far as I know the place where the team stays is awesome - luxury hotel in a very nice region. It is really a small village - no big cities around there. Perfect conditions for a camp imho. I believe in Big Sam, I am sure he will lead us to success.

Thanks for your comments - as I've said before I'll do my best.

The players were using their mobiles on the airport as they left the plane - so no words of a mobile phone free zone - maybe Big Sam told them to use them for the last time in a week ...

Finally I got M. Owen signing my shirt :-)

'Reports that Owen was missing the first week are wide of the mark. The chronicle understands that because none of the top 4 were forthcoming in their enquiries Michael decided to stay put, however if Michael does decide to move on i would like to see Olivier Bernard given the chance to ressurect his career as a forward'

I have two links for you about the training camp in Austria ...

http://www.footballcampstyria.com/     a site where all the clubs coming to Austria for camps are listed (Arsenal, West Ham, Bolton, Real Madrid, VFB Stuttgart  e.g)

http://www.stegersbach.at/    unfortunately in german, the camp is mentioned there... nothing special to be honest

The players were using their mobiles on the airport as they left the plane

It is the classic "I cant stop/talk I am on my mobile but look in my eyes I would if I wasn't on the phone" maneuver.

Mate that zit on the end of your nose is horrendous!  O0

I'm surprised Owen didn't charge you for that photo, you can tell he from his face he was thinking about it.

Aye Emre looks confused, probably been told no one lives around here, middle of nowhere, no fans etc, then this great big camera happy loon has captured him before he puts two feet on the ground!

Quality pics though, good job.

Dear James,

thanks a lot for that!

I've just returned from Stegersbach. Unfortunately I came to watch the training session in the morning (by the way it was raining heavily). In the afternoon the suqad was in the gym as far as I know. I did a photo with David Rozenhal, who speaks german quite well. He seems a decent lad, hopefully he will do well in the defence. Big Sam was in the bar area - but he was just relaxing, no alcohol or whatsoever. I asked the waitress about something interesting regarding the players - no "big" news as expected - just that they are not allowed to drink alcohol during the day (at the bar). Furthermore she told me that the team has no fixed "lunch/dinner" times, they change from day to day.

The hotel is really nice - I decided to stay there from Sunday to Monday.

I've met LucasUnger and his girlfriend. He's a nice lad, mad as me about the toon - he stays at the hotel till Friday, expect some great news/pictures from him as well.

I'll upload my pic with David Rozenhal later...

Greetings
Stefan

enjoyin my time here  :celb:

took some pictures of the players. i've been in the pool with owen, dyer, joey barton, and baba. talked to michael owen for a few secs. then they all had to stay 6 minutes in an ice cold small pool (0 °!!!!) should have seen MO JB KD and baba. they were nearly :'( cos it was so cold. had a good laugh.
talked to emre.
rozenhal is a quite nice guy., can speak some bits of german (maybe for dortmund ;) ) he's a bit thin but tall (picture)
compare butt and rozehnal.
so heard a few scouts talkin something of a striker but couldn't hear a name. sorry.
what else kieron did somethin on a bike for 18 mins, not interesting but i heard that ;)
that's all for the first 5 hours.

i'll try to upload the ´pictures now.

Newcastle onlines foreign contingent presents:

Newcastle Onlines European Vacation?

What kind of highjinx is around the corner? who knows.

See Joey Bartons first altercation in newcastle colours as number09 gets consistently too close with his camera. Shola's comic, tearjerkingly realistic performance of a wannabe footballer with no friends.

See Lucasunger and girlfriend propositioned by Keiron Dyer.

Then after a long and ardous journey where everything that can go wrong does go wrong, expect SwissMagpie to arrive at the hotel after the Newcastle Team has checked out!

ok lads it takes some time with fotos. 159 pix will take some time.
first the news:

they came with 2 busses the first bus, was the staff, building everything up, fillin the ice pools and then played football tennis.

then the players came. everybody in good mood. took some pix of them got some autographs and talked a little bit with them.
sam allardyces' mobiles (2) were ringing every 15 seconds.
they had a soundmachine with them (start in 5 seconds. 5, 4, 3, 2,1 rocket start, then a beep everytime they ran past a mark, and such stuff) quite funny noises.

charlie n'zogbia wants to prove big sam somethin he was brilliant today. he ran and ran and ran all the time. there was a contest after runnin about 20 times in quite a good tempo. 70 seconds break after every run.
and then the contest:
1st zoggy
2nd patter
3rd carrol

stephen carr nearly got sick after a few mins.
shola is nowhere to match fitness he was the slowest. joey barton is in excellent shape. he also ran quite a lot and didn't look tired at all.very good mood through the whole training. lots of jokes and stuff.
they were all really nice. they played a game. sorry not the players but all the staff. was really funny to see them play. the whole team were celebratin every nice move or pass. and when someone scored a goal, owen was runnin about like scorin in the fa cup final.
oba was makin funny noises all the time somethin hiphop stars do (bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaattttttt)
so that's it.. if you want to know somethin just ask.
pix will be online soon.

cheers

Load them on your computer in a folder.
Download picasa http://picasa.google.com/
If you don't already have one (why not?) create yourself a gmail account (there's a link in picasa when you try to upload).
Upload the folder to your web album (1G). It will automatically upload the whole folder and compress the photos to a reasonable size (before uploading which saves time and bandwidth).
Post the web album link.

Probably in the same way people slag of Pearson and Clark.

How many people actually have a clue what they are like at the training ground or with players to make a judgement on their coaching abilities.

Not saying just because Big Sams appointed him he's any good either, but I fail to see how people can rip into coaches they know nothing about.

Soon as he joins us, he is overweight, overatted, past it, ect ect.  they also think there new strikeforce of Tuncay and the reserve from Arsenal will get 30 goals each next season.   living in cloud coukoo land me thinks.

He's barely taller than Carr. Could be Geremi? Maybe K.Lua Lua?

Then again it could just be a trialist. Who is that on the left with the long hair?

I've heard about that beep thing before.  I think you have a set distance and you have to make it that distance between the beep intervals, which get shorter and shorter.  Does that seem like what they were doing?

The test you are referring to is called the 'multistage fitness test'  (bleep test) to measure cardiovascular endurance.

I do not think this is the test they were doing. I think it is one of the tests they used on Football Icon to measure speed and agility, as these tests also use lights which i think were mentioned

for anyone that is interested Braap is the firing of a machine gun noise, so if someone goes braaaap braap he's basically saying bang bang. Very popular with gangs, rudeboys and immature little boys

Quality work lads, it might be an idea to put your lass in the ice bath, encourage some of the players to join her and take a photo, that would surely win the competition!

Reminds me of the time Titus Bramble nailed the Janitor's girlfriend while the Janitor took photos.

(pretty sure it was the Janitor.  And absolutely certain it was a nailing ;) )

 allegedly u mean right?

Factaliciously!  He'll be along later to confirm, I'm sure!

He did not have sexual relations with that woman.

She wasn't my girlfriend, either. You f***er.

Any Irish people who voluntarily (I've been brought to them before, generally against my will) go into Irish bars while abroad are complete gobshites if you ask me.

I thought the idea of going abroad was sampling different cultures?

And for newcastle he has played mediocre though injurys have plagued him,
we should sell him now I just cannot see sam getting any improvement out of him,

the training intensified a bit, the guys are working hard, temperature today is about 26°, so quite hot... especially in the sun.
at the end of the session the separated the squad into 4 smaller squads to play 2 short games ... the tempo was quite fast,  they played a 5-a-side match.

a bit with shola and nobby - nothing special ... now i go to the pool .. the players are sitting there...

In general, the players are very friendly, they must know me by now but still the are polite and in good mood. Joey Barton's reputation might not be the best but from what I've seen he's a very polite and friendly person...

10th July

Nice to see the players are wearing heart rate monitors in training. It isn't cost a fortune, and an expert can easily gather some useful information from the recorded data.
I reckon we didn't use this these kind of tools under Roeder/Souness.

He might not be late for dinner in that case, as I was getting the lateness from "spater" which he only used once.

sorry guys for the german sentence... just been at the dining room ... someofyou got it right ...

some gossip...

- dyer v barton ... but no fighting, just a chess game ...
- carr, butt, shola watching wimbledon on the laptop (bbc online)
- andy caroll got lost in the hotel... i told him where the players are ... i think big andy did have a nap before dinner, so he was a bit confused..
- owen was phoning for about 1/2 hour.... i suppose private "things", i am 100% sure he will stay at Newcastle
- Hertha BSC will arrive tomorrow at the hotel, i've heard from the staff here that we will play them in the afternoon ... i am not 100% sure about that cos i thought there are no training matches arranged. Maybe they changed the plan... We will see...

"Went down to the bar last night, saw Emre at the bar by his own so i thought 'Why not give it a shot?' and asked if I could buy him a drink. He seemed enthused and we chatted while we sipped our drinks slowly, playfully. I noticed he was playing with his hair so I asked him if he fancied a stroll. Hesitantly he accepted and we found our way outside with a bottle of Chardonnay where we lay on the grass and talked for hours about everything. It was nearly 5AM when I finally left him back to his room. I was thinking maybe now would be a good time to drop the hand but resisted the urge and said goodnght like a gentleman.

We're meeting up again after today's training, OMG I'm so excited! What to wear, what to wear?!"

"Went down to the bar last night, saw Emre at the bar by his own so i thought 'Why not give it a shot?' and asked if I could buy him a drink.

After a night in the cells and a caution, I was asked politely by the police to leave the Newcastle players alone or face more serious action. Grudgingly, I handed over my telephoto lens and went back home."

I actually did watch  Karpov play some super computer crap about two years ago..boring as f***.

But this is Kieron Dyer VS Joey Barton,  PLAYING CHESS were talking about :D

Edit : Actually it was Kramnick  that played vs the  computer.

sorry guys for the german sentence... just been at the dining room ... someofyou got it right ...

some gossip...

Nice one. Keep an eye out for what formation we play!

As expexted the lads went to bed early... at least they pretend to be... i talked to the bar woman... she told me that the physios & others went out with the hotel staff yesterday night... i suppose they had a pint or two as they returned with the sun rising again. No scandals as far as the players are concerned, their dinner is seperated from the other hotel guests. I've heard that some of them use the room service even at 3 am for some snacks... (reliable source :-)).

Big Sam seems to be gone... I haven't seen him today...

I will try to give you an insight which formation, tactics we played vs Berlin tomorrow... I promise some pics... So stay tuned :-).

Many greetings from Austria to the Toon

I've just returned back home... no big news regarding transfers as they said "no comment". big sam ain't there anymore, maybe a good indication for transfers?

i had to travel home earlier but I stayed at the training pitch for the whole session. If there's any match v Herta Berlin it has to be in the afternoon/evening but I doubt it to be honest as the GErmans only arrived around 12am- 2 pm.

I'll try to upload some more pics later... it was a fantastic "holiday" for me. Most of the lads are really nice and smart.

So that's for now, i'll do the rest later on.

Thanks lads - good job.

The fact that Sam hasn't been there for a couple of days has to suggest that we are close to signing at least 1 player - why else would he leave the training camp which he felt was so important?

Obviously his departure & the Deco rumours tie in nicely.

Is the inescapable truth that we are going to start making signings the will "shake the footballing world"?

Apart from Emre everyone was training normally, Baba got some special treatment. Like on the days before the players looked in good shape although I think the are way off their peaks. They got some weeks left so no worries about that.

I'd much rather a player miss a tour or training than the actual season itself.

Unless we're going to start slagging off Luque for not being in possession of a crystal ball then I don't see how this argument can progress any further.

Life experience tells me that weddings can usually be planned up to a year in advance. I highly doubt Luque turned around to Allardyce the day before the team left and went "Sorry Sam, me and my new lover are eloping to Spain to get Wed."

Still, surely for any footballer the obvious time to get married is in early June, when everybody is on holiday?

Not that it's a big deal anyway, but still.

Fair enough, but maybe circumstances meant that it couldn't happen then.

I'm really not going to get into an argument over Albert Luque's wedding plans but I can't nail him for getting married. It's just f***ing daft  I dislike his half arsed approach to playing for Newcastle as much as the next bloke but it's not really a topic worthy of critisism.

Big Sam Back In Toon

By Craig Hope

SAM Allardyce is back at St.James' Park and continuing his preparations for next season having spent a week in Austria getting to know his Newcastle United squad.

The Toon players enjoyed a seven-day training camp in the eastern resort of Stegersbach as Big Sam set about implementing his ideas and techniques ahead of the Premiership kick-off at Bolton on August 11.

Before then the black and whites travel to Hartlepool for their first pre-season fixture on Tuesday, a game which will mark Allardyce's debut in the Toon dugout.

And the 52-year-old told nufc.co.uk: "It was good to take the lads away to Austria.

"It was a very good exercise for us out there and not just for the new lads but for everyone involved at the club.

"We wanted everyone here to spend some time together.

"Now the boys are back in Newcastle and we will be looking to take things on again.

"In the next couple of days that's what we'll be doing, and then it will be time for our game against Hartlepool in our first friendly of the season.

"All the lads are looking forward to it."
