Title: Are you renewing your season ticket next year?
Post by: nufc_geordie on Friday 5 May 2006, 01:12:54 PM
If you vote no, then stick a post in to say why not!!!

I will admit I am voting no but that is becasue I'm going back to play football on a saturday myself. It is quite easy to get hold aof a ticket for games that I can make so I will still be at as many games as possible. I have been weighing up the idea of going back and playing and this season really made my mind up. There have been many times this season I have sat there in the ground and wished I wasn't there.

There are many years ahead to get another season ticket.

Here come the serious question.

What if in the future people criticise you as a Keegan Bandwagon Jumper? I am not teasing I am dead serious.

Well then I would laugh and say that I was going to the games before Keegan took over, and in the days before I went to the league games and the reserves played at SJP I went and watched all of them. I bleed black and white but only being 22 I think I would be stupid not to go back and play football. Got injured a few years back and it has taken me until now to get fit enough to consider making a return to football.

Yes, but it's going to be interesting if the deadline comes before this situation is sorted out.  I wonder how it'll affect the uptake on tickets.

Just curious where do you play football normally?

Not a good standard or anything, Tyneside Saturday League to start with then hopefully if I get fit enough and get back playing well maybe a higher standard.

maybe you cpould become the first of the new breed called Roeder Bandwagon Jumper. Will mean you aren't allowed to comment on the Keegan era though  bluecry.gif

I didn't renew last season. That red-faced t*** put me right off. I'm tempted to apply this season, but, as with most things, it's all down to the missus.

Yes, i will.

I was going to say "depends on manager", but its only the likes of Curbishley/Graham etc who would make me quit, so i'll stay positive. If it was Big Fat Head Allardyce, i'd probably renew, then sublet it on a game by game basis as i feel like it, cos i don't think i coudl last lonmg watching that kind of football, it'd be like watching Souness team again.

KBJ's are worse than RBJ's because most of the RBJ's in my opinion were younger than the KBJ's.  SJP was virtually a closed shop from 1993 to 2000, and the younger fans couldn't get in, and the true fans and the KBJ's were all there gettin older together, same c***s every season.

For people that aren't renewing for footballing reasons, f*** OFF, I'd rather w*****s like yous weren't there.  We've got the same number of points as we did when we came 5th.

Oh, we also got more points than Derby did when they won the league in 1974/5. Doe we get a prize??

I'm no better than any other fan, no different.  However Newcastle United is more than just a football team to me.  To people like you we get beat "oh well better luck next time", it destroys peoples weekends if we play s***, it breaks up marriages, I bet any money more babies are conceived after the toon have had a good win, I bet there's more domestic violence and violent crime when we lose, to you it's "just a football team", fine, but it's more than just a football to me and many thousands.

I used to think like that, most people grow out of it though. If it means that much to you, I feel a bit sorry for you really. It's not that important to me. I love the club and would love to see us win something but I (thankfully) have other interests and it doesn't usually ruin my weekend if we lose. And before you ask, yes I am renewing.
Edit: And anyone who uses the Toon playing s*** as an excuse for a marriage break-up is sad as f***  bluelaugh.gif

Pathetic, it was 2 points for a win.  The fact of the matter is, we've won 8 of our last 9 home games, and played very well, yet because a few are spitting the dummy out cos they haven't got the manager they want, they're saying they won't renew.  It's beyond pathetic, they shouldn't have been there in the first place, will be replaced and won't be missed.  If it was a reason like, can't afford it or working away, that's fine, any other is pathetic.

If we lose I shrug it off.  I don't go home intent on battering anyone.  If we win, I don't feel a sudden urge to plant my seed in the nearest female.  I'd hate to think I would ever let a football team break up my marriage.  Sorry if any of this makes me seem a bit weird to you two lads.

I wondered about this. When we extended the stadium were the extra 16,000 fans Robson bandwagon-jumpers?
KBJ's are worse than RBJ's because most of the RBJ's in my opinion were younger than the KBJ's.  SJP was virtually a closed shop from 1993 to 2000, and the younger fans couldn't get in, and the true fans and the KBJ's were all there gettin older together, same c***s every season.

For people that aren't renewing for footballing reasons, **** OFF, I'd rather w*****s like yous weren't there.  We've got the same number of points as we did when we came 5th.

What if the people not renewing look like doctors and wear glasses?  Will you then approve?  Have a word with yourself man.  It's just a bloody football team.  "If you don't renew you're a w***** etc."  Jesus Christ.

I'm sorry like mate but the toon is more than just "a football team" to me.  Clearly I'll will be wasting my breath explaining my point of view here (or the cells in my fingers), so I'll not say anything more about it.  In all fairness "just a football team" sums up a lot of peoples point of views up.  Tossers.

Well the fact is they are just a football team.  Obviously to you it's a religion because you're a special breed etc. etc.  It's in your blood, blah blah.  You're no different to anyone else mate.  Get used to it.
I'm no better than any other fan, no different.  However Newcastle United is more than just a football team to me.  To people like you we get beat "oh well better luck next time", it destroys peoples weekends if we play s***, it breaks up marriages, I bet any money more babies are conceived after the toon have had a good win, I bet there's more domestic violence and violent crime when we lose, to you it's "just a football team", fine, but it's more than just a football to me and many thousands.

i agree completly with you mate
I'm actually staggered someone thinks we're "just a football team".   As for the other person, you have other interests, as do most people, but I make no apology for stating the most important interest I have, and it says more about you than me, that you ridicule that fact.

Real supporters renew - part timers should be shot.

no, we always get 52,000 crowds and always have done

So who's going to bale out if we don't win the trophies that are our divine right ?

It's actually got to the stage where while this board although the best Toon message board, carries a serious amount of baggage.  There are about 20 people tops who you can talk about the past with, and if you have a bit of knowledge you're a "super fan", and if you point out how pathetic you feel some peoples attitudes are you're an "uber" fan.  It's all a bit sad, I suppose as everything though, things change.

For people that aren't renewing for footballing reasons, **** OFF, I'd rather w*****s like yous weren't there.  We've got the same number of points as we did when we came 5th.

And i think there are almost certainly people who would rather YOU weren't there, if thats the attitude you have to anyone who makes a decision they feel is valid but you don't.

Oh, we also got more points than Derby did when they won the league in 1974/5. Doe we get a prize??
Pathetic, it was 2 points for a win.  The fact of the matter is, we've won 8 of our last 9 home games, and played very well, yet because a few are spitting the dummy out cos they haven't got the manager they want, they're saying they won't renew.  It's beyond pathetic, they shouldn't have been there in the first place, will be replaced and won't be missed.  If it was a reason like, can't afford it or working away, that's fine, any other is pathetic.

Wind your neck in, it was a joke about Derby.

I wouldn't have renewed had Souness still been in charge, because i couldn't have continue to offer my support to the club if they had let that happen.

I love NUFC, but if we get beat, i get on with it, have a few beers, calm down a bit, and move on. There is more to life than it, and thats a fact.

Of course there's more to f***ing life!!  When you see someone dying in a hospital bed you realise that.  However NUFC to many thousands of people are more than just a hobby, and I fail to see why people who don't have as much of depth of feeling, I fail to see why they don't understand that.

They all do this, when you point things out to them

It's actually got to the stage where while this board although the best Toon message board, carries a serious amount of baggage. There are about 20 people tops who you can talk about the past with, and if you have a bit of knowledge you're a "super fan", and if you point out how pathetic you feel some peoples attitudes are you're an "uber" fan. It's all a bit sad, I suppose as everything though, things change.

Its nothing to do with knowledge of the past, people are ridiculing you because you are acting like every defeat is a dagger to the heart. Breaking up marriages? Beating the wife? Anyone who considers that as a sign of dedication is a fool with a very empty life.
Oh dear   Do you think I go around belting people because the toon lose?  I know Newcastle losing makes me feel VERY miserable, if I'm a "super fan" or whatever term the gimpy types use, then I must be, I must be a sad **** cos I love the toon as well according to the other ****.
That's Not what I said though. I love the Toon too believe it or not. There's a canny bit more to life than that though. Nobody is accusing you or beating people up but you did use domestic violence as a way of demonstrating that NUFC is 'more than a football club', did you not? That's bollocks imo.

Surely if you don't renew you've jumped OFF the Keegan bandwagon.  I wonder how the gimps who use it as a term of abuse will handle that.

I wouldn't have renewed had Souness still been in charge, because i couldn't have continue to offer my support to the club if they had let that happen.

love NUFC, but if we get beat, i get on with it, have a few beers, calm down a bit, and move on. There is more to life than it, and thats a fact.

Yes, yes it was.

Maybe the people who won't renew are goignto take that course of action because they love the club so much, feel so strongky about it, that they can't bear to see it get dragged down again (in their eyes) by the people running it. Althoguh they don't love the club as much as you, obviously.

I don't know if you do or not but it was you who said:

Quote from: stevieintoon
it destroys peoples weekends if we play s***, it breaks up marriages, I bet any money more babies are conceived after the toon have had a good win, I bet there's more domestic violence and violent crime when we lose, to you it's "just a football team", fine, but it's more than just a football to me and many thousands.

Of course most fans get p*ssed off if we lose but most normal well balanced people have other areas of their life to take their mind off it and don't spend the next week of their life walking round with a long face just to show their dedication as you seem to take pride in doing.

The only acceptable excuse for not renewing is if you've spent a fortune having your body daubed in hideous toon-related tattoos and can no longer afford to.  That is the only excuse that I consider acceptable.  That and if you're doing time for GBH following a defeat.

What hillarious figures?  That there's 1 million toon fans in this country??  I think that's conservative.  Shirt sales is a pretty s*** thing to go off but we sold almost 800,000 shirts in 1997, in this country alone, now maybe only 90% of these are toon fans, but most older toon fans dont even bother with toon tops.  There's 1,200,000 people on Tyneside and Northumberland, at least half of these would class themselves as toon fans, as well as the manty thousands in the Borders, Durham and places like Cumbria.  Look at this message board, well over half the people on here aren't even from Tyneside.

He only supports them because they were good when he grew up. i have **** all respect for that. There's a football team where he comes from, he should support them.

His heart is not Liverpool at all. If they hadn't been seccessful when they were, he'd "love" some other team. f*** that.

What's the difference between you and him? You grow up with your local club, which you are exposed to due to your locality, he grows up with Liverpool, which he is exposed to due to the fame, waht's the difference per se?

Why can a person be allowed to support his local club only? Is it not stupid to support a local club, JUST because it is your local club? IF your friends' hearts are not with Liverpool, I doubt he will financially support the club by buying the merchandse.

Look manc, which part of "what evidence do you want and referring to what" do you not understand?

Manc? You referring to me? If so I would like you to back up your claims that we have 1 million fans in England on the criteria earlier provided.

1,200,000 people in Tyneside and Northumberland

"According to the UK Government's 2001 census [3], the unitary authority of Newcastle has a population of around 259,500. However, the metropolitan boroughs of North Tyneside (population c.190,000), South Tyneside (population c. 150,000) and Gateshead (population c.200,000) are also part of Newcastle's conurbation, giving the Newcastle-Gateshead metropolitan area a population of 799,000." from Wikipedia.

Northumberland has a population of 350,000, so that's just under 1,200,000, not even taking into account our support in Durham.

Shirt sales......

"Arsenal sixth in UK shirt league
Daily Express: Arsenal are equal sixth with Celtic in the UK shirt sales league with 350,000/yr, according to the D.Express - according to some research by football analysts.
Manchester United are top at 850,000 earning an estimated £34m/yr [there again city analysts will tell you - well they tell me anyway that Manchester Uniuted is the best known UK company outside of these shores, beating even Marks & Spencer, so it is hardly surprising].

Newcastle and Liverpool are at 600,000/yr with Rangers and England surprisingly sharing fourth spot on 500,000. Behind Arsenal are Spurs on 250,000 and Leeds on 230,000."

There.

I've already had to explain to you for a good 20 minutes the way things are with peoples attitudes towards Newcastle.  What else do you want to know?

Surely if you don't renew you've jumped OFF the Keegan bandwagon.  I wonder how the gimps who use it as a term of abuse will handle that.

Are you in anyway condoning these actions?

The ones who aren't at the game are on standby to cause bother in the satellite towns around Newcastle.  All bases are covered.

Seriously though, I have no idea what point he's trying to make either, and judging by the way he can't actually explain himself, and he just keeps calling you dense, I don't think he has the first clue himself.

I'm pointing out that the vast majority of Toon fans living on Tyneside, or the rest of the country, going by your figures, don't consider it to be more than just a football team if they can't be arsed to even go. Which is fine by me, but you claimed you couldn't understand that mindset, even though you're clearly in the minority even if everyone who goes to the games agrees with you. Which they don't.

I didn't call him dense, I was referring to dense people in general to avoid disciplinary procedures.  What I meant is statistically if there are 1m toon fans, something negative will happen somewhere as a result of the game, as opposed to a victory.  It's not exactly rocket science.

This thread's been good entertainment, but I do find attitudes of people like Stevie, and the lad who just kept saying "Exactly" to be a bit strange.  When I was 14 or 15 and we lost I would be gutted, but Christ, you can't let it govern your life.  Perspective is the key.  Some people seemingly have none.

Still haven't answered my question

About me sister?  I've told you man, you've got no chance!  She's related to me.  She doesn't deal with riff raff like you!

Cheaky b******

I'd bring some much needed sofistication to the family!

There.

Ok you've quoted population figures, why? Not every person on Tyneside can be classed as an NUFC fan.

And we sold 600,000 shirts worldwide in 1997, again not very helpful with what you're trying to prove.

If you want you can just say that it was a rough estimate instead of trying to back up something which you won't get the figures for.

I don't think it's reasonable (under Northern Monkey's definition) of "fan" to say we have 1m, but as "Alex" pointed out it's going off at a tangent, and it just confuses the masses talking about it.

I didn't call him dense, I was referring to dense people in general to avoid disciplinary procedures.  What I meant is statistically if there are 1m toon fans, something negative will happen somewhere as a result of the game, as opposed to a victory.  It's not exactly rocket science.

I don't really get it either, to tell you the truth. If there are 1m Newcastle fans then it's a fair bet that it covers most of the spectrum of personality. Just as there are scum who'll beat their wives if we lose (or win), there'll probably be f'in paedos, rapists, and god knows what else.

A Scouser once said to me "The trouble with you Geordies is you think you're better than all the other fans of all the other clubs". He was right too.

With some people, it's not just fans of other clubs.

To be honest I'm not really bothered about whether its 1,000,000 or 100,000,000. Anyway your original point about how results should (and apparently do) affect "proper" fans was ridiculous. I'll leave it at that.

Surely if you don't renew you've jumped OFF the Keegan bandwagon.  I wonder how the gimps who use it as a term of abuse will handle that.

As for the other person, you have other interests, as do most people, but I make no apology for stating the most important interest I have, and it says more about you than me, that you ridicule that fact.
i hope every supporter would be there though good times and bad, i don't feel it is just a football team and i don't understand how any supporter can say that

Stop it, you're making me cry!

Why am I making you cry, I wouldn't say you're a tool because I don't know you, but honestly years ago there weren't many people around who thought Newcastle was just "a football team".  Are you from Tyneside?
I really don't understand you Gemmill

is he your wife ?
