Love too how they say that the takeover won't have a big effect on our fortunes as the top players "won't want to come to Newcastle", then in the same breath say that we get better crowds because "newcastle is a major city that has the pulling power of any other major city".

There has always been a slight problem getting major players to come to "The North East" . . but that same problem never seems to apply to getting people to "come to Newcastle".

Our famous name has always meant people love to come here, and I am NOT specifically talking about football, but that certainly does apply in football.

We often get casually lumped in with (say) Middlesbrough and Sunderland when this issue is discussed by THEM, even though it obviously does not apply to Newcastle or to Newcastle United.

Watching the finale of sunlun till I die. Jesus Christ I can't get over the way they were carrying on about the checkatrade final

Acting like it's the FA cup final! Small time as it gets

Financially it would have been huge if they’d won it, to be fair. To be honest, if we were in League 1, we’d probably love a day out at Wembley too.

How the hell would it have been financially huge if they won the checkatrade trophy ffs

Did you not watch the documentary? They were losing money left right and centre, had to pay three times as much as they wanted to spend to get Will Griggs. I vaguely recall Mathven saying they needed £17million income to break even per year (which they weren’t on course to do) and I believe he said the Checkatrade prize money was £2m. So yeah, it would have been a big financial windfall for a club that desperately needed it.

Just watched some highlights of the no away fans derby in 96 at joker, brought back some great memories. We had tickets in the roker end that night, was one the hardest but greatest nights ever, trying not to celebrate when Pedro  and sir les scored fuc#%ing hell.

Always remember groups of them trawling around trying to suss out any mags, was plenty of knowing glances and winks amongst our lot in there.

Great night still don’t know how we got out alive, think we’d blown our cover long before the end.

Always reminds me though why I’ll never have any sympathy for these horrible cnuts.

Link above says winner gets £100,000 but estimates Sunderland made a total of £1million from gate receipts and tv.

That’s not what Methven said on the show like, but if that’s what is true that’s what’s true. Either way you could see why they’d want to win the thing and get that money into the club.

No it wouldn't  I get that making the final would have got some decent revenue from ticket sales but winning or losing it was apparently 100k difference. A drop in the ocean for the state they were in. They were going on like it was the champions league final

Just checked and even the league cup winners money is only £100,000 surprisingly. FA cup is £2million.

Just watched Albert Luque wrap it up, can’t remember if I was there or not .They were fucking shite in that second half mind.litter, the litter

I remember it being on nufc.coms match report for that game that their groundsman went in a right tantrum at full time in front of the Newcastle fans and had to be escorted down the tunnel. Or something like that.

It was fuckin hilarious, he had to be restrained by a couple of stewards from getting stuck into our whole travelling support, whilst still holding the corner flags.
