Anyone read this? Just finished it today, might be a bit late to the party but I waited for it to come out in paperback so I could read it on the bus and not have to lug the hardback round with me.

 

Cracking read. A genuinely fascinating insight into the history of tactics. Arrigo Sacci's AC Milan was one of my personal favourite parts, but also the history of W-M and 4-2-4 were both enlightening.

 

Quick quote from a paragraph on Owen struck me as being relevant to this forum:

 

Even allowing for his history of injuries, it is surely significant that when [Owen] left Real Madrid in 2005, no Champions League qualifier was prepared to take him on and he ended up at Newcastle. He appears a player left behind by the tactical evolution of the game.
