Don't think that the English FA aren't behind this in some way either btw.

I think that bid team with Beckham, the Princes et al was fucking furious after the outcome and from that point on I imagine they plotted their revenge.

I'd say it's nailed on that British Intelligence has played a role in this somewhere.

The WC shouldn't be going to nations that don't have the proper infrastructure, accommodations, transportation and of course sporting stadiums either. If the Cup becomes a positive catalyst for economic growth that can be SUSTAINED, fair enough, but if you're just building s*** for sake of it then not having any way of keeping it long-term its pointless.

England should have had another WC by now, and the USA should be in line for another as well. I'm biased, but f*** it. I'd also like to see more Cups in Europe as well. Again more biased towards atmosphere and appreciation etc.

So basically in like 4, 5 countries then. Not many countries have sporting stadiums that fit the criteria for a World Cup. Think the World Cup should be spread out to promote the sport, but it should also be done to improve societies in places where they are being hosted and not a for the sole purpose of robbing the country of even more. England should definitely have one soon, but the US? Had one 20 years ago, they could wait another 10-20 years. Australia have to be in line as well as someone said.

Qatar don't even have enough cities never mind stadia

Qatar is a pisstake though, it's ridiculous. Just look at them hosting the Handball World Cup and buying their team basically.

It left a bad taste that all we were shit at was corruption. It was widely acknowledged that our bid was one of the best they'd seen.

Exactly - I think they all felt like they were in with a very good shout and had obviously invested many millions into it. Just not in the right pockets.

I have a feeling that the sense of injustice (and cost) just didn't get brushed under the carpet as it had appeared.

For every action..........

so how long until FIFA bans the U.S because of "political interference in football"

 Would be the most Partridgeshrug.gif moment. We'd just start our own goddamn international football organization. With playoffs.

:sweetjesus:

 You like cheerleaders and commercial timeouts? We got 'em!!

The beautiful irony is that #FIFA has been trying for decades to get the Yanks interested in "soccer". They got the FBI interested at least.

The DOJ does not fuck around with these sorts of charges. Assuming they can get these dudes extradited to the States they are toast.

I don't think I've ever loved the US government more than I do now

"Today's announcement should send a message that enough is enough," said Kelly Currie, acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. "After decades of what the indictment alleges to be brazen corruption, organized international soccer needs a new start.

"Let me be clear: This indictment is not the final chapter in our investigation."

A world cup in Oz would be OK if they didn't use Perth. Still, minging amounts of travel and too much oddly shaped, small stadia.

While Perth would be bad for travelling distance it would would be best for showing matches in Europe and the time they are played.
