Hope his career tanks from this moment on wards, gone are the days when you would give your left arm to play for your local team.

If he wasn't willing to accept 20 grand a week then fcuk him.

Fans always have a very difficult relationship with player wages. We’re desperate for good players, cheer them to the rafters, then say they shouldn’t try to get the best deal they can.

We we sign a player, we never say he should’ve stayed at his old club.

It has much to do with the game not being viewed as the business that it is. We wouldn’t begrudge an employee in any other industry from maximizing his earnings. We shouldn’t begrudge football players, without whose labor the game doesn’t exist, doing the same.

Given our transfer budget will be almost zero and we’re unlikely to sign Bentaleb. Surely it would make sense for his career to sign a deal here as he’s almost guaranteed Premier League games given our squad. It would have been worse for him if the takeover happened.

We are nailed on for relegation

Yeah fuck that.

Not even going to wish him luck.20k a week is too much for anyone to live on anyway. A nurses annual wages every 8 days or so.

Get paid 20k a week more to not have to play for the Brucesaurus at Mike Ashley FC.

Don’t blame him one bit.

He may have had more opportunity to play in the PL next season, but playing for this rudderless lot doesn't exactly put you in the shop window by making you look a good player, unless you're a player of great physical and technical ability.

£20k is fine, he wants £30k.

He can't move directly to another English club without us asking for a fee, and I think the Udinese/watford loan deal now Watford are in the Championship looks dead. I'm guessing our owner situation doesn't help, but his options don't looks as rosy as they did a  few months ago.

In talks to start pre-season training, apparently

EDIT: For those who don't want PCAIDS

Newcastle United revive talks to persuade Matty Longstaff to stay

The England Under-20 international has been offered an incentivised package by the Magpies

Newcastle United are trying to persuade Matty Longstaff to remain on Tyneside and join up for the first day of pre-season training next week.

The 20-year-old is now a free agent but has not taken up any of the options available to him so far this summer after fresh talks with Serie A side Udinese and newly promoted Premier League outfit Leeds United.

German club Schalke 04 also have an interest in the Academy product.

Toon boss Steve Bruce is eager for the midfielder to remain at St James' Park after handing him his Premier League debut last season.

But since then talks between Longstaff and his representatives have stalled.

Bruce has kept in contact with Longstaff over the summer months and urged him to stay at United.

Despite his contract coming to an end, Newcastle want Longstaff to join them at their UK training camp and take part in pre-season.

Newcastle are hoping to add a couple of additions to their squad in time for their summer schedule with Burnley's out of contract Jeff Hendrick a target and Wigan defender Antonee Robinson also a player that the Magpies have checked out, although Fulham and Sheffield United are also battling for the American's signature.

Bruce has already declared that he anticipates a "difficult summer" caused by the virus pandemic and clubs being forced to work with a limited budget.

Don't know why he hasn't signed for someone else already.

Good point. It doesn't seem that the likes of Bayern and Man U are breaking down the door for his signature. I don't think he's going to get a better offer than the one that we're said to be giving him. He shows a lot of skill but lacks pace and the defensive side of his game isn't great.

There has been the suggestion that he and Sean's agent likes to hardball, and I think that's what's happening here.
