  1. Just off topic for a minute, lads, but I am flying in from Oz on 22nd December and my best mate has got me tickets for me and the missus for the Man City game on Boxing Day. Havent seen Toon live since Villa at home in March 2003, 1-1 draw, stunning free kick from Nobby. Wouldnt mind meeting up with some of you lads before the game for a bevvy. Nice to put faces to names.

Just out of interest, Collingwood defeated St.Kilda in the replay by 56 points today to win their first grand final in 20 years. Great game and great performance, what an atmosphere at the G.
  3. and apparently Hodgson wants to buy Routledge in January according to the BBC rumours site.
  4. I like Wenger and I like his style of play. However, like many on here, he has relied too much on foreign fancy dans in the last few years rather than providing a good mix of skill and grit, which he hjad in the days of Adams and Bergkamp. In my opinion, he has had the opportunity to address two key areas in his team in the last few years but for some reason, resisted. If he had bought a quality goalkeeper like Buffon and a quality striker like Van Nistelrooy, I am sure they would have won heaps of trophies and that is his downfall. I like the idea that he is prepared to bring the kids through but he needs to mix it up with a bit of experience as well. For example, could you imagine a better midfield than Walcott, Vieira type, Fabregas and Ashavin. Skill, pace, grit and goals there. He is close to this but needs to find that Vieira player. At the back, I am not convinced and I think he needs a solid English leader type like Terry to organise his back four.
  5. This was an excellent team performance and everyone deserves credit. It is a pity wee didnt win 2-0 against Blackpool rather than losing 2-0 because we would be third on 10 points. Never mind though. We need to keep the run going and beat Stoke next week. Although it wont be easy, I think we have a really good chance considering it looks like Pennant, Jones and Walters may be missing whilst Gudjonnson looks really unfit which may limit their attacking options.
  6. I only saw the first half but the dye was set from the kick off with Blackpool keeping possession for over a minute and creating a great chance for Campbell in the 2nd minute. Their tactics were good. They stifled our wingers and ended up thumping aimless balls down the middle to Carroll all the time. We were unlucky with Williamson hitting the post and Nolan should have scored when clean through but they also had chances, particularly Harpers double save early on. I thought they troubled our central defenders when Adam knocked those balls over the top and we looked a bit cumbersome. Also thought Enrigue was well off colour and Perch was as weak as piss. The effort he made on Varney for the penalty was wank and although Smith brought him down, he DID get the ball first. Replays supported that. In my opinion, Nolan is a liability. He played much further forward but his lack of pace is a serious problem when he plays this role. Smith was well off colour and I was surprised to find he wasnt substituted. Unfortunately, our wide men have little or no end product and if we are to supply Carroll, we will need them to supply a lot more accurate balls in. I also thought Blackpool got their tactics spot on and fully dderserved thewir first half lead. As I said, I didnt see the 2nd half so cannot comment on that.

    Steven Taylor

IMO He has already been replaced
  8. A few games against Leicester spring to mind, cant remember the years though. 1. 2-2 draw on New Years day at home.............still pissed from night before and fell asleep against one of the lean toos in the gallowgate at 1-1 and missed the next 2 goals. 2. 2-1 away and the own goal in injury time 3. 5-4 at home, after being 2-4 down with 20 minutes to go, Roy Aitkens debut, I think and McGhee's classic winner. 4. 4-3 at home after being 1-3 down and Shearer scoring a hat trick to win it 5. cant remember the score but Supermac scored a 40 yarder, probably the best goal he has ever scored.
  9. Merlin Speaking of Glen Keeley and that 3-3 at Boro. I was at that game and Keeley scored a superb diving header..................................straight into his own goal. We left at 1-3 down with two minutes to go. The game was at the old Ayresome Park and as we were leaving, we heard a couple of roars and thought we must have conceded a couple of more goals. Imagine our shock when we switched on the car radio to find out that both our full backs, Kennedy and Nattrass scored twice in the final few minutes to get a 3-3 draw. I was livid. but we had been told by the driver of the car to go early because he had to get home for an anniversary dinner.
  10. Rooney, Crouch, Cole, Terry etc...........................you would think they had all been playing away at the WC............................. WOMENS CUP
  11. but not at international level any longer, it would appear, judging by his performance against Germany at the WC
  12. Ozzie.............I remember this game very well too. It was the final game of the season and City had to beat us to win the title whilst United had to hope we won and they beat Sunderland at OT for them to win the title. I was standing outside the Jolly Miller pub in Low Fell watching the procession of city supporters heading up the A1 to the game with their scarves hanging out of the windows. Needless to say, we managed to pinch one and did a runner with their supporters in hot pursuit out of the car but they couldnt catch us. In the afternoon, it was off to the game and it was end to end stuff .........2-2 at half time with Pop Robson and the late Jackie Sinclair scoring for us while Neil Young and Summerbee scored for them. In the second half, another Young goal plus one from Franny Lee put them 4-2 up before a late McNamee goal for us set up a grand stand finish. Sunderland actually beat United at OT in the end but there we.re wild celebrations all around SJP. I was in the gallowgate end behind the goal. Great memories
  13. God, reading these makes me feel soooooo old especially as I have been living in Oz for over 30 years but here goes: 1. Jimmy Scott's one/two to score the third in the 69 fairs cup final ist leg to go 3-0 up. 2. Listening to radio budapest on the old radiogram at the second leg and feeling totally despondent at being 0-2 down at half time only to celebrate like buggery in the street half an hour later as Alan Foggon scored the third to make it 3-2. 3. Supermacs two goals at hillsbrough in the semi final in 74. 4. Tears in my eyes at Wembley in 74 after we got thumped 0-3 by liverpool but hearing only the balck and white army singing "we'll support you evermore" and drowning out the celedbrating scousers. 5. Absolute in awe watching the most graceful player ever to appear in a B&W shirt.........Tony Green. What a player!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6. Absolute elation as Alan Gowling equalised for a flu ridden toon in the 76 league cup final at wembley only for that lucky twat Tueart to come along and spoil it all. 7. FA Cup quarter final away against WBA - 3-0 win and the whole of the Hawthorns seemed to taken over by the geordie hoarde singing "howay the lads" for what seemed like an hour non stop. Just a few I can remember

    Joey Barton

In my opinion, his past is exactly that. Focus should be made on the present and the future and his performances this season have shown a level of maturity, commitment and skill. Too many people are happy to bring up past misdemeanours in others. I wonder whether they would be happy to do that to themsaelves. I also feel that the recent comments made by Barton where he said he was England material are not far from the truth, if he continues this level of performance. Rather than berate the lad, he should be encouraged because he is the best creative midfielder we have and his performances at present are showing that. The fact that Wolves targeted him is proof of this.
