  1. You seen the store in the Metrocentre now? Really sad - cheap 50% closing down signs all over - an all the concessions seem to have shipped out the nice stock and filed it with what looks like old stock. was in there yesterday,Karrimor running gear and rucksacks on display
  2. Pretty sure it was Benitez and his advisors who approached Ashley and not the other way round as Wise is claiming
  3. Hadn't realised the old team were back together. Watched MOTD a week back and saw John Carver on the WBA bench. Checked google and he was appointed assistant head coach to Pardew back in early December. Wonder how long before he starts offering people out!
  4. Couldn't believe the lack of quality at that level. What should be short straight forward passes going straight to opposition players even over a short distance.
  5. My MOTM as well. Did everything that was asked of him and as has been said only his second booking which stands in his good stead for the rest of the season. Good pro.
  6. The bit where he lost the ball and attempted to chase back,he didn't look fit and looked like he was blowing through his arse .
  7. I'd second that, in fact either of those semi final goals. Still make my hair stick out on my neck when I see them on youtube.
  8. For squad building I'd take Dwight Gayle as a second or third striker. Goals ratio is fairly decent considering the time he spends on the pitch.
  9. I remember being in the paddock around 1985 when I think we played Aston Villa. There was a group of lads nearby shouting at tony Cunningham calling him a black B*****d every time he went near the ball. I objected to one lad in particular who grabbed me the upper clothing and was going for me. The reaction of the crowd surprised me turning round to gawp at me instead of the foul mouthed racist! luckily enough some people separated us. The stewards that I recall nor the police came nowhere near such was the acceptance then. Mind you Cunningham had the last laugh scoring the winner!
  10. from what I can remember you got more attacking for your money back in 70s/80s. Unless im just being nostalgic, but Im sure I enjoyed games much more back then. I certainly did and still enjoy the old stuff. Maybe it was a bit simpler then with quick one touch midfielders getting the ball forward as soon as, pacy wingers, at least two forwards, one big and one smaller , large loud crowds 126,000 for a European semi final Celtic /Leeds 1970!! now its just seems to be slow midfielders passing the ball between them and one forward hopelessly outnumbered yawn, yawn
  11. Disillusioned with premiership football in general anyway. Some very ordinary players on huge wages right across the league, no tackling, no real passion, players feigning injuries, silent crowds, managers talking crap, no pace in the game etc. I've watched a few championship matches on the TV this year and have been well impressed with Bournemouth's brand of pace and passing and Derby's game. Eddie Howe reminds me of a young Brian clough in that he can turn ordinary players into something better with a bit of coaching. I grew up in the 70,s and got into football then. Watching old youtube stuff you can see the passion, feel the crowd noise/atmosphere. Clubs were more equal then with provincial clubs like Derby and Notts Forest winning titles and progressing in Europe. Players took the tackles then, saw a repeat of McDonald's second goal against Burnley in the cup semi final when Waldron tried to wrestle him to the ground, can you imagine that now, like say Costa would go to the ground, roll over several times, other players would race to the referee with the imaginary red card in the air, the manager would harangue the fourth official for the same thing, play would stop for the treatment and several minutes would pass, instead of doing what McDonald did and throw him off
  12. Agreed great read. True gent and sadly missed. Wished He had been here 20 yrs earlier
