Other clubs’ stadiums

Mostly Baseball, but kind of an interesting series of stadiums in Atlanta.

'96 Olympic Stadium in Atlanta built just south of the Atlanta Fulton County stadium.  Everyone thought the Olympic Stadium was very strange at the time due to its really odd shape.

Atlanta Fulton County Stadium was part of the plague of 60s round all purpose stadiums.  Horrible for pretty much everything.  I saw the Chiefs play here a long time ago in the NASL.

Then the Olympic Stadium was converted for the Braves - Turner Field, the TED.  Really a very nice place to watch baseball.

Old Fulton county stadium ballground outline is now in the Turner Field parking lot.  They left the fence section where Hank Aaron set the home run record in '74.

In a couple of those pictures you can see the Georgia Dome in the top left, home of the Atlanta Falcons and a venue that has hosted international football, the Super Bowl, and other high profile events.

(Even further off topic) I'm off to that town hall for the first time this Sunday after a session in probably the best pub in Brum (The Wellington)

 

If you like proper beer, you need to go for a few in the Post Office Vaults and the Pure Bar, both of which are pretty much round the corner from the Wellington.

I met my wife in the Tap & Spile. Still one of my favourite pubs of all time, but for unconventional reasons.

When I'm done with Australia I'm going on a football tour of Europe. I'm gonna handpick 6 or 7 matches across the continent and use them as a dot-to-dot. Gonna try and make each fixture diverse from one another, in terms of the club/the area/the culture. That one is called the Pancho Arena and is home to Videoton FC's youth team. It looks absolutely awesome - it's gone straight in the shortlist.

If they knocked Villa Park down and built it again, I'd love them to do it in that style. Brilliant, easily my favourite on this thread.

The red-brown brick follows the building style of the area. I love when a stadium is able to follow the tradition of the town while still standing out architecturally. I like that stadium a lot, really.

I love Seattle's stadium, look at the crowd in that photo, do they really fill out for real football games ? The crowd there in seattle for the handoval games are really passionate, really tough place to go for opposition teams.

For most games they fill the lower half of the stadium, plus the first 10-15 rows of the upper half. So usually somewhere around 38,000 - 42,000 people. But for the big games against rivals like Vancouver, Portland and LA Galaxy, as well as friendlies like the recent game with Tottenham, they fill it up to capacity, which is around 66,000.

I always thought Cardiff arms park was very similar to Old Trafford before OT was expanded. Three sided with a terrace at one end, I believe standing in the lower part seated on the upper. Both cracking grounds 20+ years ago but the old Stretford End shaded it, I loved the huge Wonderfuel Gas advert on the roof.v
