Surely if they go down next season the mistake is appointing the wrong manager rather than binning Hughton?

Hughton is a top bloke but the results have been awful for months now, they're fully justified on sacking him imo.

Nah, it means they've appointed the wrong man.  They've won 3 PL games in 23 games, that's falling off a cliff and the same happened to him at Norwich when the rot had set in.

Hughton has never been relegated from the Premier League.  Never been in bottom 3 with either the Toon or Brighton. There's a decent possibility they would stay up him next season, not a foregone conclusion. Their form has been turd recently, but many teams have had turd form this season and turned it around (Toon being one of them). Hughton might have turned it around, might not have.

If they make the wrong appointment, and get relegated - will their fans be thinking, "ah well, we had to change managers, we were 100% going down with Hughton anyway?"

Hopefully they get Graham Potter. Should sort one relegation spot for next season.

The appointment would have been unsuccessful, yeah. But we were talking about the sacking.

It doesn't make sense to say the result overrides everything, we all know there are loads of factors at play. In sport and games you sometimes make all the right decisions and still lose. The result is hindsight.

Brighton had a terrible second half of the season. Another month and Cardiff would probably have overtaken them.

There was definitely a problem with the players, they are all shite.

One of the least inspiring squads you would see, based on graft and organisation. It's a miracle Hughton kept them up.

If they are planning something exciting with a exciting new manager and a raft of new players, then great.

I suspect they will hire someone worse than Hughton and waste a shit ton of money. They will be relegated next year IMO.
