If Demba Ba was born ten or so years later, Senegal would be as dangerous as any team in the tournament. They do not really have a striker and it may hurt them here more than it did at AFCON.

Tbf to both of you, both teams are trying to play football and maybe expectations were too high The attacking play at least has been very poor, loads of potential openings wasted. edit: Sarr

First true disappointment of this tournament. This is game I most looked forward to when the draw came out and the game and atmosphere both seem quite rubbish, tbh.

They are 1st and 2nd most every season recently, so essentially yes. -

Bafana are a good side in African football because they are organised, play good passing football (most African teams don't), and have players comfortable in that environment. Vast majority of their team play at Mamelodi or other PSL clubs. They are at a big talent deficit to the usual West or North African sides you see at World Cups, though, and the players are inexperienced outside of Africa. This level is tough for them. -

The progression of this Yohanna story is mad. Less than a year ago, he was at an academy in Kaduna. He began starting consistently 2-3 months ago and immediately made waves in Swedish and Nigerian football circles and got called up to the national team last month. The expectation was that he'd leave for a better league, maybe France, soon, but a couple weeks later and apparently there is fight for him among multiple Premier League teams. Hype keeps increasing. I hope we sign him, the boy looks a real talent (good physicality for his playstyle and wonderful left foot) and we haven't had an actual Nigerian international (not including the likes of Osula) at the club since those disgraceful Shola caps.Still, I cannot help but think that the fee is the excessive for someone that became a relevant footballer three months ago.

The CIV team is serious, tbh. Conceded zero goals in qualifying and is very consistent. They are the third best team in Africa, but their style might be more suited to this stage than Senegal's. It would not surprise me at all if both them and Ecuador finish above Germany. Two very good teams.

It's honestly bizarre that Arsenal have accomplished this much with the form of their attackers. None of them have really been good all season. Bukayo looks like a shell of himself.
-
Reminds me of when Nigeria had Calvin Bassey of all people kick first when we needed to win a shootout for the World Cup. How is your ruffian centreback your scheduled fifth taker?? Madueke and Zubimendi were still options.
-
PSG haven't troubled Arsenal at all so far. Tbh, Arsenal might regret it if they sit extremely deep here because they could easily score another. Paris look off it.

As opposed to teams owned wholly by the government of Qatar?

This is least enjoyable season of football in England I can recall. Zero entertainment value and very few memorable moments. Even the moments that you would expect to be great fizzled out with boring football and poor refereeing decisions.

This Manchester City team are nowhere near as ruthless as the previous ones that would win every match for the last few months and win the league against the strong Klopp teams. It was always a serious ask for them to play well enough to take advantage of Arsenal's inevitable slip. It is a very inconsistent since 2024.

It's amazing how this Arsenal team have managed to combine all of the negative trends of the last 20 years into one horrible style of play. They defend like a side that has quick, explosive counter attacks, yet instead play the slowest possession for possession sake football imaginable. Dominant at set pieces and percentage football like many physical lower table sides before them, yet dive and play act as much, if not more, than any team in the league. Genuinely, I cannot remember a side like this before.
