Guitar swap
« on: Tuesday 5 December 2017, 10:44:00 AM »
now then, can anyone help with this or give advice? i've got the below guitar, cost me £300 about 12 years ago or something like that...imo it's in very good condition for the age, excellent in fact because its barely been used in that time

anyway i've started learning again but want to swap this guitar out for an acoustic at a shop or something like that...don't really want to go through the hassle of selling this and buying another in different places, just want to walk in with this guitar and walk out with another without having my eyes taken out

suggestions?  TIA

They'll take your eyes out.  Not want you want to hear, but IMO sell it on ebay or similar (as long as you can package it securely for transit, which is easy enough), and just use the proceeds to get yourself a cheap acoustic to learn on (I've been playing for getting on 30 years now and the guitar I play most is a Fender CD60, a cheap acoustic dreadnought that cost me just over £100)

Guitar shops hate talking about trading in, in my experience.  Because it's an Epiphone, I reckon they'll probably strongly advise you to do it as a private sale, and if you push them they'll offer you £45 or something.  It's an excruciating process

I meant the guitar itself there as well as the overall process btw. Don't even know the proper name in order to advertise it [emoji38]

I'm not an electric expert and I can't see your picture from work, alas.  From memory, I guess if you google Epiphone SG Copy then you'll probably come up with what it is

I can't see the photo, what is it?

I'd recommend asking for a swap on NE Musicians Mart on Facebook, or testing the water at somewhere more like CEX than a music shop. OC's probably right though, you'll have to do it the long way to get what you want without getting ripped off.

I reckon it was probably an Epiphone G400, from my recollection of the picture.  Definitely an SG derivative with the double cutaway and the points, anyway :)

I have a nice Fender Sonoran I'd be willing to sell (though I know you're looking for a straight swap). It's an electro-acoustic, famous for it's electric guitar-styled headstock.

(alternatively, if you happen to have a keyboard, I'd be willing to arrange some sort of swap deal involving that and the Fender)

Yeah it's some variation of what OC said, no sure of the exact specs though which of part of the problem I guess.

Probably somewhere around the £170 mark. It has nice hard case with it too. Could probably do with a bit of servicing but this would cost no more than £10-£20 I reckon. Physically speaking it's in immaculate condition though.

That's nice aye. Will think about it. If I knew I could get a similar price for my SG then I'd snap your hands off.

No problem mate, well I'm not actively selling the guitar so it's going nowhere, even if you want to wait till the new year and see what your options are then, it'll still be available for you.

Epiphone SG400 (with new tuners and a P90 bridge pickup) is my mainstay guitar, like. It's a shame you're getting rid of it.

No it's a cream colour with gold on it. Will try and redo the pic, don't know why it's down.

Think those SG's come with the three humbuckers in as standard

I'm more of a Telecaster/Jag fan myself otherwise I'd be interested in the straight swap for my acoustic.
