The point is, Ali may not have been universally loved but he was certainly admired by men of both colours, and he was in a strong position to bring both together, and to assist in the fight against mainstream racism.
And what did he do? He went on TV and said that Joe Fraizer 'works for the enemy' simply because a lot of his sponsors were white businessmen. He even repeated it on English TV. And just look at some of his comments in that Bunce article. Ali deserves huge admiration what he did inside the ring but outside of it he did more harm than any other fighter I can think of.
