There goes the division title then. Might as well not bother. Prince slugging them and Verlander sitting them down.

:huff:

Why does Cleveland even bother?
Obviously, I'm speaking of a hypothetical world in which there is a greater club than Tottenham.

Because the White Sox bother even less?

Ok so I read it wrong. Blaming the LASIK for that one.

$214m for 9 years?!

That's going to be the worst contract in MLB in two years. The Tigers are f***ed. How can you be that stupid? You already have a 1B who is better than Fielder. And you have four years committed to V-Mart as a DH.

Boras struck gold.

Money's not really a problem for us, Illitch is always willing to spend big if it makes us a legitimate title contender. It's definitely going to be interested to see what we do when Martinez is healthy in 2013, it sounds like they want Cabrera to move to third, but they'll need a really good defensive shortstop if they want to do that.

You're in 'Go For It Now' mode but you have two years to do it. After that, I really think you're f***ed because both Cabrera and Fielder aren't good defenders and they have the body type that is associated with quick declines.

Nine years for Prince Fielder is pretty crazy.  I'll assume that it was the length that made him sign more than anything.  He's definitely not in the elite level of someone like Pujols though, nine years is just not worth it.

The "Ortiz if he were clean" body type.

Cabrera is a solid option at 1B, his defensive ability has really improved over the few seasons he's been with us. That moves Fielder to DH, and V-Mart will probably be out of the picture at that point because he sure as hell can't pay catcher. What to do with Martinez will be the toughest call. If playing one of those three at an awkward position is going to hurt us, then he'll be the most likely to go. Not sure who will want him after the injury and his age, except for small market clubs who probably won't have the money.

$14.6m for Papi after spending the whole offseason cutting salary and not making a respectable offer for Jackson and Oswalt. And this after wasting $3m on Punto. This has been a weird offseason.

Five years from now you'll be paying A-Rod $40m. No joke. And if you're over the luxury tax threshold, you'll be paying ~$65m for him.
