Newcastle United have agreed a £5million deal for Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon.

Manager Alan Pardew has turned to the 20-year-old Italy international after hitting a snag in negotiations over PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters.

Santon can play either side and has progressed through the ranks at Inter.

Worth a thread because:

A. His name has come up a few times now.
B. They sound pretty confident, and despite what some say they've actually got some of our deals spot on.
C. I'm desperate.

Remember him being extremely highly thought of a few seasons ago - did something go wrong?

Hope this doesn't mean we're not getting a specialist left back.

Ah f*** it, it probably does.

Will be absolutely delighted if this is true and we're signing him to play at RB.

No chance is there?

Would be delighted if true, could still see us persuing a LB and playing him at RB sometime in the future.

Right footed left back, just like Denis Irwin, nice.
If we get him (Aly Cissokho) and Cisse i might consider walking to SJP and wanking on Ashley's picture in public

Don't think we'll be looking to replace Simpson. I know a lot on here don't rate him but he's cheap, doesn't cause a fuss, seems to like it here and can only go up in value.

This signing would make sense if he can play both positions.

Just hope it isn't their reporter reading blogs and transfer sites and taking a guess.

Sounds good, if true!

What's his preferred position? RB or LB?
