Newcastle are winning the Ba brawl

Published 23:00 10/06/11 By Simon Bird

Newcastle are set to land Demba Ba in a bargain deal next week.

The French-born Senegal star is quitting West Ham on a free and Newcastle believe they are close to sealing a deal for the big striker.

Alan Pardew was back at his desk this week and completed the signing of Yohan Cabaye last night in a £5million switch from Lille.

Ba, 26, scored seven goals in 12 games for the Hammers' relegation-bound side and Newcastle can more than match his wages as they look to replace Andy Carroll with a new focal-point striker.

He also had a good goal ration in Germany for Hoffenheim bagging 37 in 97 games.

If the wages are sensible I think he would be a good signing, how many West Ham games did he miss?
Acceptance level adequate.

And as long as he's not the only striker.

If we can get him for nowt then brilliant, saves money to be spent on other new players.
Before that why didn't the Wigan fans just walk the the Stewart's, the Stewart's only went up to the touchline, their was a big gap between the end of the Stewart's and the stand they could have walked through.

We definitely need to get rid of one or two.
Acceptance level adequate.

Be reasonably happy with this as long as it's not used as a reason to not spend properly on another striker.

Scores goals, can do it in the Premier League.

As I said in the other thread, nobody will pay him 80k wages and he'd be a brilliant free transfer. Add Zoggy and a main striker to that and we're looking sexy-licious for next season (touch wood).

Did look a good striker for West Ham, if there is a deal I hope it's a sensible one.

For free? f***ing rights.
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” - Sir Bobby Robson

If we are getting him we need to get rid of some one like Lovenkrands, Ranger or Xisco and still get a top quality striker in.

Because of a silly contract clause isn't it? Standard stuff for us.

Ranger and Xisco will probably both go.
New striker, Ba, Best, Ameobi, Lovenkrands (Kuqi emergency style).

As has already been said, if we bring him in on a free AND sign another striker, brilliant news.

For a free........sure why not. Just hope we're not going to be paying him a particularly high wage.....

EDIT: and that he's not first choice.

I'd be pleased with this signing should it go ahead.

Aye. Decent number 2 striker though.

Another 'quality' striker and Ba should do it. Best and Ameobi will be acceptable as 3rd and 4th choice.

Would be satisfied with Ba as 2nd choice next season tbh. Not exactly a marquee signing but he's handy.
