West of Tobruk: My Documentary on the Libya Uprisings
« on: Friday 1 April 2011, 05:22:18 AM »
Recently a dear friend of mine went to Benghazi to be a part of the revolution, and he asked me to film it.  After weeks of reflection, I stupidly agreed.  So now I will be embarking on an adventure to Libya in a few weeks to do a documentary.
I certainly understand the risk involved, but I have a very large network of people whom I can trust in both Libya and Egypt. So I will be as well protected as I can be.
I am trying to raise the funds now via a site called indiegogo.com, and I would greatly appreciate your help either with a little donation, or by spreading the word. I'm almost half way there already. It is very important that people know about this project.I strongly believe in 'West of Tobruk' and really think that these uprisings point to major paradigm shifts in civilization. I see this as a conclusion of the FIrst World War of sorts.

Anyway, below is the site. Please read the synopsis and fight the camera tooth and nail in my video. Appreciate the help.

Lastly, I must say that I have enjoyed these many years being a lurker, and now a contributor.  And I appreciate you lot not chasing me off with virtual pitchforks.

Good luck.
Sir John Hall: "I was told that the man behind the deal was Mike Ashley and I sat with his representatives over three days thrashing out a deal. I was keen to know why they wanted the club and they were quite honest. They wanted to market their sports goods in the Far East and would use the club to help do this."

Safe journey, be careful and good luck with the film. Hope it's a good one
Players come and go, managers come and go, chairman come and go, and even stadiums come and go. But we, the fans, are always here and always will be. We are the lifeblood of this club and our ownership is in our hearts. Nobody can take that away from us!

Thanks for the support.

I am a f***ing idiot for this, but my buddy laid out a good case for why I should follow him.  I have a good network of people there.  We'll see what happens.

I'll certainly watch out for the friendly fire.

Every night, I go to bed a bit petrified, but wake up and am excited as hell.  I can really tell the story, given my connections and my knowledge on the subject.  So I almost feel it's a responsibility.  In the end, it's probably just me jerking my ego off, but there you go.  Our motives aren't always so clear.

Stayed away from this because I thought it was an actual Jackass venture.

Good luck though, and stay safe.

I sense a tiny bit of irony there, but I'll take it nonetheless.  Seriously, I haven't been posting for very long, but I have been following all of you guys since the early days when HTL was Grassroots, and sparkynufc posted a lot more.  This site and its predecessors got me through a difficult engineering job.  And it was absolutelly a fantastic place to spend my time during the 2001-2003 period.

Nah, essentially a serious compliment, was good to have you around for bit... although yes, there's usually a negative correlation between forum usage and having of a life, so enjoy the voyage.

If you all could post this on your social media sites, or refer people to it, I would be very grateful.

It's an amazing story, particularly how protesters took the heavily armed fortress in Benghazi essentially armed with sticks.

Okay, I know...shameless advertising.  Understand, a part of me is dying as I do it.  But I leave in less than 3 weeks.  Your support, whether it's a few bucks, or referrals, would be invaluable.

I have my tickets booked, and transportation arranged to the Libyan border.  I also have arranged an interview with the leader of the transitional government, and a few other big players.  My buddy's family name carries a lot of weight in the east, so I will also be able to travel deep into the desert to see how the burgeoning infrastructure under King Idris was completely shut down by Gaddafi.
